New longboard group forming in San Diego. The San Diego/Longskate Association will meet for rides throughout the summer--everything from fun cruises on the Boardwalk, to downhill carving, to trips to skateparks, maybe even set up some cones for slalom runs.
For more information, drop me a line, sturhann@earthlink.net or check out the web page:
http://home.earthlink.net/~sturhann/sdlongsk8/
First event will be a fun ride on the Boardwalk in Mission Beach on Sunday, July 5, at 2:00 pm. Meet at Hamel's Action Sports Center, 704 Ventura Place, Mission Beach.

Gunnar, Bad news bro, it's the June 1st issue! Since I know who you are, I will be sure to get you a copy if you can't find one. The rest of you are on your own. To the journalist's that write these stories, please let us know that they are coming out...better yet, get a longboard magazine out there for us, we will buy it! You guys might try to contact the publisher of ESPN Magazine to see if you can get back issues. Spanky Out!

Yo Spanky,
What's the deal? The ESPN rag out right now is June 15 issue, and it has Karl Malone on the cover, not Shaq. What issue are you talking about? I hope it's the one after the June 15 issue, but when I talked to the chick at the newsstand, she said that it had only been out for a few days. Hope I didn't miss it.

Hey gang, exciting news, the Spankster was at the store getting kitty litter when I strolled by the magazine stand. The June issue of ESPN magazine with Shaq on the cover caught my eye. Thinking I might find an X-Games TV schedule in it I picked it up. To my suprise the contents listed an article on downhill skateboarding! Without looking any further I purchased the rag and headed home. In the comfort of my little house I read a phat little story by Tim Keown about a group of Northern California Downhillers. It's a humorous tale, thick with California syle, of some laid back downhillers that march to the beat of their own tune! I think anyone that longboards will dig it, so shag down to the local grocer and pick up this mag, it's rare when we make the mainstream media, we should support the rags that run our stories. Salfi, Reese, Floren...good job, the story is the bomb, stay loose, be true, ride long for life! The Spankster can relate to Wellen the most, since the Spank is a geezer too! Good story, go get it kids! Spanky out!

Hey Kiddies. Well I must put in my X-Games two cents. I saw in the paper that there will be a X-Games demo this weekend, June 6th and 7th in San Jose. It will be at the eastridge mall. (I think it is eastridge, it could be oakridge). Anyway, it is a two day event. It could be worth a check out. (especially if you bring your longboard) Anywho, just a little F.Y.I from the eggman. Peace out.

I just got a note back from Biker Sherlock, he says that speedboarding (Downhill standup skateboarding) will be a demonstration event in this years X-Games. The guys doing it will come from the ranks of the Extreme Downhill International. He urged me to come out and race if I want to participate, unfortunately all the EDI events are in California, it would be very costly for anyone outside the state to come and race. How about a national race schedule?! This way people from all over the country could participate. Maybe if it is accepted as a mainstream X-Games event others will have the opportunity to compete at regional events to attempt to qualify for the big show! Whats everyone else think about this? Thanx Biker for answering my questions.

Marc,
You might want to try contacting Biker Sherlock at Dreg Skateboards/Extreme Downhill International. Biker won the gold in Luge in 1997, and he keeps up with what ESPN is planning. If you go to the Dregs Home Page
http://www.dregsskateboards.com/
and click on the E-mail Dregs, that should get you to Biker.
If you get an answer, you might want to post it here. I'm sure a lot of people want to know.

Marc, I have heard the same rumors, that it will be a demo sport this year, but have not confirmed that yet. Any one else heard about X-Games Downhill Speedboarding?
