Anyone interestid in a skating session in the Oakland hills? I know of some excellent runs, and I know of areas with possibly excellent runs (smooth road, good steepness, never tried em). I'm leaving for so cal for college in a couple of weeks and I really want to have an excellent skating session in the hills before I go. Berkeley Hills, Oakland Hills, Piedmont Hills. It's seriously a skating paradise. Anyway, lemme know what you think. I think we should get the ball rolling now. I'm leaving early/mid september.
p.s. Dem, that SUCKS. i'll rip some hills for ya! :)

Hey DEM The Gravity "Slides" video is pretty cool. It has a lot of short board tricks, but it is still cool. (specially the gravity girls). I think it is about as good as "rollin"

Good idea Scheckey, anyone have any video suggestions? I already own the Sector 9 "Rollin'" video. I like it. How good are the gravity vids? Worth the money? Can anyone suggest any other longboard videos for me to pass the time with?

This post belongs in both the "Completes" and the "Crashing" sections too. I'll just post it here because I am doing this one handed. Here's the deal. I've waited a long long time for my brand new Black 29 "Royale." It finally arrived yesterday. Let's just say I was stoked. I even videotaped the unpacking process and my very first push down the driveway. This thing is a work of art. FIVE FEET of handshaped birch. Never ridden anything like it before........... I took it out for an hour or so, putting it through the paces. Carving around, going fast where I could, crouching down dropped knee, coffins, all that. I realized it was time for work so I cruised casually into my driveway as I had done many many times before. I think I hit something because the next thing I knew I was on the ground and I heard a big pop when I hit. I jumped up and checked my wrists......they were okay for once!! (broken each of them skating in the past) It felt alright for a second......then I turned my arm inward........."F%CK!" Pain shot from my wrist to my biceps. I looked down at my beautiful new board...only an hour old.......and realized I would not be riding her for a while. Three hours later I was back home with a full arm cast. My arm doesn't have any sharp pain, but the depression I am dealing with at the moment kind of sucks. I get a six week sentence for fracturing the "Radial Head" of my elbow.
please do one thing for me right now.......GET UP AND GO SKATE! Because sitting here right now is nowhere near as much fun. (wear pads if ya got em') I'm gonna sit on my couch and watch the video of me on my new board.........GO SKATE DAMNIT!

Please post. I'm a retired shop teacher in Santa Cruz who taught most of the Santa Cruz people how to make skatedecks. In an effort to help out skating and the country's ailing wood/tech shops I sell skateblanks, plans, patterns, and instructions to school shops. Check details on my site, http://members.cruzio.com/~sc58. If you have skatebaord construction questions or pattern making, email me at SC58@aol.com. Thanks, Bob Merriam

Just saw a longboarder on MTV. It was one of their short little "MTV is cool cause we know what the trends are" video things. It was just a guy getting pulled by a dog. Humm...Wonder where they go that idea? Has longboarding gotten so big were now on MTV? god i hope not. Why the hell was I watching MTV in the first place? I canot answer that. But rest assured that it dosent happen often.

What the heck is going on here. Is everyone so jealous about the Sector 9 advertising budget? Advertising can sell just about anything, whether or not it's a good product... Everyone here is talking about the ads...obviously they work. Main point...The more people riding, the better! When you all are done flapping about the retro-crap, you can start to imagine where this whole initiative is going. What it gets down to is simple. You have to both ride loose and use large lipped wheels and at the same time eliminate wheel bite. Obviously Payaso has got the numbers right with the Propeller Series. A superior ride is available customized to your style and mentality.

Two quick things to note:
1. It's the OCTOBER issue of Men's Journal that will feature longboarding.
2. My friend from the Metro Longboarders, Martin "the Streak" Streek put rollerblade wheels on his sector 9 Super Cruiser. He went down a small patch of asphalt in a park last weekend and managed to tear about 3 and 1/2 feet worth of skin from his body. So, beware, rollerblade wheels will give you speed, but no traction. For a picture of the grizzly proof, check out skategeezer homepage in about a week.
cheers,
skategeezer

Ode to longboarding:
Bright orange urethane wheels cling to the pavement like an eagle does its prey. Wind blows around me, images slightly blurred in the perpheral. Only one thing going through my mind: an emotion of pure freedom. I close my eyes for a split second and I'm flying.
Alright it's pretty gushy..
