wishing all worldwide longboarders a happy new year
my prediction for 99 is that it will be "the" breakthrough year. of course, this ironic, longboarding final gets huge just before the world ends!
while we sit out the season freezing our collective buns off here in Toronto, the metro longboarders encourage you to join us come april.
cheers

Spanky, Yeah, it was great. You did really well--way better than my first time therre. I'm definitely up for doing it again, despite the crash (see the crashing page for details).
For the rest of youse guys, if you live in Southern California and want to check out a full acre concrete skatepark, you gotta go to Temecula. If you need directions or want to meet there, post a message, and we'll set something up.
The park is set on a hill with a double-hipped bowl on top, and the rest of it is a big open area leading down the hill to the various banked walls and bowls. This means that it's real easy to get good speed and carve a number of different lines. If you want to see what it looks like, there's a picture of it here,
http://www.gravityboard.com/pages/photo/parks.html
Not the greatest picture, but it does give you an idea.
Later,

There is also some skating in Big Wendsday. It's at the part when they go to Bear's surf shop and there's some guys skating. It's short also.

Right on Eggman! I just picked up a copy of "Five Summer Stories" myself and it kicks ass! You are right, the skate footage is too short, but what it has is awesome! The Guy Grundy speed run bit it's the bomb! This tape is a classic, you all should consider adding it to your collection!

Five Summer Stories.......
Hey Kiddies. Well, it finally came in the mail yesterday, "Five Summer Stories". I had to wait a while, but it was worth it. For those of you who don't know, this is a surf video from 1972-1976 that is hailed as "One of the greatest surf videos ever produced". One of the sections is killer, and is entitled "the magic rolling board" and is all about skating. I have wanted to see this footage since 1977, and I finally did. It is pretty cool, but not long enough. Most of the shots are of Ed Nadilin (pro freestlye champ) and other members of the Hobie team. Check out the no shoes style, it will make you cringe... There is some good footage from salom races at Signal Hill and some killer shots of the Amazing Waldo at Baldy. (if you don't know what I am talking about, then I don't know if you will enjoy the vid). It is pretty cool and I highly recomend it for those of you who have some old "skateboard" mags. The rest of the movie is all old surf footage (even some old shots of current Gravity team rider, Buttons). It is cool to watch, and check out the old surf technique. It is good reference if you want to look styleee. Anyway, I ordered it thru the Surfer Magazine web site and it was about $30. All in all, a good addition to the skate library, but not as cool as I hoped. Ok, skate on and skate proud. later late.

Awwwww mannnnnnnnn.............. I woke up this morning and as I poured my coffee I noticed out the kitchen window that we got three inches of snow last night! Since I no longer snowboard and have three beautiful longskates this has saddened me a bit. I haven't even tried out my Exkate 201's yet. They're still "on the way." (sorry Jason....the weather has made me a bit bitter this morning.....and I have been waiting a few months now) Speaking of Exkate...good news for them. Go to the trucks section of NCDSA and see what it is. Congrats. I can just hope that this white stuff melts away soon and I can get out a few more times. I'll just have to look forward to going to Florida in March. Anyone know good spots near Orlando or Jacksonville?

I know that this is for soulboarders in No. Ca, but would any of you seem to know any other soulboarders from the Chicago area. I'm feeling really isolated out here. Till then keep it carving down the hill that is life.

Hey, everyone with a longboard listen...This is the greatest idea for maximizing your carving and power sliding. Put the smallest truck possiable you can find on the front of your board, and a really big one like and indy on the back. Try it, you'll like it.

I just read in "Strange Notes" (a new skool small format rag) that archeologists discovered what appears to be a skateboard with a mummy near the ancient mountain top Inca city of Machu Pichu in Peru. It clearly was a plank with trucks and wheels chisled out of stone. This may explain why these cities were so smooth, with carefully finished stucco work and gently curving architecture, early skateparks perhaps? And we thought this whole skateboard thing started in the 50's!

Hey, Boulevard Swell Longboard Co. Is sponsering a "Downhill Derby," On Nov.27, the day after ThanksGiving. It is in Fair Oaks, outside of Sacramento on the American River Hills. It will be the event of the season with a shuttle to the top of the hill, a raffle for free decks and t-shirts, a BBQ, and a contest for the biggest ScoobyDoo-style, turkey sandwich. The salmon are running and the deer are often out next to the course. E-mail Pat for directions, and a RSVP slip. It's going to be the bomb in more ways than one. Hope to see you there.
