Hey munchh, just thought you might like to see my home made board seeing as youre so into board building!
I laid up the ply's myself, it has fibreglass, and the bottom is finished with ebony and zebrano veneers. The deck has a fairly deep concave at the front which shallows out to a flat tail at the back. (and yes, i realise that the back truck placement is wrong in these photos)

Just in the process of putting together presses and formers to make carbon fibre and glass fibre longboards and slalom boards, as I got sick of seeing such high prices and some revolting designs, but could anyone give me any advice on what core to use, wood or foam and are there any preferences in design, shape and length. I have made a few already, going to test a couple tomorrow and I’m sure they will end up in the bin!! But I am determined to get it right so if anyone could help I would be very grateful.

Rockin, this is the easiest way, add a wedge to the tail then sand the underside of the tail at the same angle, simple, but i would say most kicktails were made this way at 1st.
Its also the easiest way if you have only simple clamps, or even just glue and something heavy to put on it!

Per the question... I DON'T REALLY MAKE HOMEMADE boards...
As in this pictured deck, I buy it blank then paint and make
love to it from there :----) In its purest sense its fabricated
from pre made parts/pieces. This Pittsburgh Pirates deck I pictured.
Its an idea for all you Dads (and moms) who want to make a theme deck.
Its for DISPLAY vs actual use on the streets..
Can use a old ratty deck or buy $20 blanks like I do...
PER THE QUESTION... Scroll back some pages on this HOMEMADE site.
You will see lots of info as to bending decks...O
r maybe someone will pitch in..
I made water skis once, its thin wood plys, glue, vice grips,
and overnight letting the bend form solid...
Enjoy my beloved Pirates deck, 15yrs without a .500 record!! Killing me!
Other side the Pittsburgh Steelers... Now thats a fine run machine!

Hey vintage man (or anyone else who can answer this question) i was wondering if u could help me im trying to make a vintage board like the ones you have but was wondering how do i make the bend at the back of the board if i just have a single piece of wood and no way of bending it?

i don't see it? well they are machined,to me they look about as much like maguns as bennetts look like trackers. I mean there's a certain shape to trucks,that's just sort of organic/necessary,there has to be a fat area in the middle for bushings and they really should thin out by the wheels.

No, in fact the edge consists of, from the top down; uni carbon(150g/m2), one layer of maple veneer, triaxal fibreglass(700g/m2) , another 2 layers of uni carbon (both 150g/m2) and a layer of bi carbon (200g/m2)
For the record those arent my bikes, theyre my sisters, sorry if they dont conform with your high standards, hahaha only joking dude
btw, those trucks you made look suspicously alot like maguns, just silver.

i've got a set of pink big zigs,i'd run the greens in back on a rough hill,like the switchbacks to the englewood boatbasin here in "mountainous" north jersey. That road is really only "safe" at night when the park is closed and i think checking for fallen rock earlier in the day by bicycle is also a good ritual.

another fine mess you've gotten us into! now focus,focus. These are finnished trucks that i've been riding for months. 29 degree back 41 degree front,not really on purpose,just sort of ball parked clamping the blocks that made the baseplates,measured them later. The 29 hanger has no rake(offset) and the 41 has maybe .080 so flipping it will change things a bit,not much though. The wood they're sitting on is a ash stingerd vertical grain balsa core,it got partial carbon skins that stayed inside the outline of the deck(no carbon dust) and skins of thin birch ply,eventually the trucks got recessed, that was about as much work as making a whole nother board, the deck has a slight build up on top too,sanded and blended,it's a barely noticable "speed bump" in the area of the inner mounting bolts,the narrowest area of the board.

project. Did last spring/summer.

out how to add pictures. So am hogging the site.

Now I am dangerous, adding my boring vintage stuff!

working on em!! Have done 35-55 decks past 2 years
Sipping spiked beverages as I go. As to valuable woods;
Dogtowns, hobie, sims, similar famous woods
I might lightly clean. But I leave em alone.

cool internet stuff, there was a utube clip in the "related videos" section on rodney mullen some kid jumping over a 66 inch high jump bar,kind cool, so i searched "high hurdles" and i came up with "stephan holm does high hurdles" holey sh!t! i wonder if he could ever learn to ollie a skateboard.

man i gotta post something here to push the ridiculus skitching machine off, need a new project that involves skateboards,getting a little restless and burnt on the skateboard thing, I got some stainless round stock for adding captive washers onto some stainless bolts for my motorcycle(also can't really ride that in this weather) so i started some new baseplates,i'm back to low profile around 45 degree geometrys,i'm gonna make stainless floating kingpins and when i get to the hangers they're gonna have stainless axles that are the ends of the hangers 3/4 inch diameter to 10 mm inner bearing axle then cut to 8mm just for the outer bearing and the axle nut,gotta bring my camera into my shop and finally figure out how to post pics,now that i got this here intranet thang at my shop.

California Hardwood?? Cut one in half then give away?
Lordy, I am not that generous! :---) Your idea of using
vintage trucks as brackets was a most clever thought.
I found the $3.50 bracket much simpler and less expensive :---).
I did apply a 1/8th re-issue skateboard riser with the brackets. Looks cool!!
Be it known, I have a power tool in one hand and a summer california
cocktail in the other when doing these little projects. I attached
one of my creations. Hopefully, even though its not a home made skateboard,
the powers that be will leave it up till it just drifts away.
