torsion bolts
On 7/13/1999 Rich wrote in from (203.23.nnn.nnn)

Thats always been my fear with exkates. In similar circumstances heres how I have got bots out. This presumes that you used the bolts that they come with and not forced another size in. Get a fine control drill with a drill bit about half the diameter of the bolt. Drill into the bolt until about 1cm in. Don't go much more as you may come out the side and screw the thread on the trucks. Now if the drill is a good fine control model that dril bit should be firmly implanted, take the drill bit off the drill and use it to slowly unscrew the bolt, this should work as exkate bolts are pretty loose in the holes. If it hasn't worked (the drill if not super fine control will have made some slack around the drill bit) then take the drill bit out the bolt get some steel rod and epoxy glue it into the bolt, wait 'tl its set and unscrew using the rod as a handle.
if you have used your own bolts that are a tighter fit in the trucks you may well be screwed as you will have probably ruined the thread. In that case talk nicely to the guys at exkate and try and get a spare baseplate.
This is perhapes their biggest design flaw once you start putting them on other decks that are thicker than say 10ply.

Unit trucks
On 7/13/1999 Bob wrote in from (192.73.nnn.nnn)

Keith,

Unit trucks are made by AZA Industries (also may DNA and Zorlac boards, plus Budda longboards):
http://www.aza-industries.com/contents.html

It looks like the widest unit truck has an 8.25" axle -- not actually that wide.

Jones and Unit Trucks
On 7/13/1999 Keith Fellmy wrote in from (134.68.nnn.nnn)

Hi guys

I looked at the Transworld Skateboarding Buyers Guide for different trucks for my luge and longboards. I came across the Jones Longboard truck and a truck called a Unit truck. They looked wider than the others and I thought they might be good for luge. Anybody know anything about them? Let me know.

Thanks

Keith

Randall IIs
On 7/9/1999 Mario wrote in from (205.227.nnn.nnn)

I got some a few weeks ago and they really are as good as everyone says they are. I can turn a 6 foot circle and they are fairly stable at the same time. They're light, too. They aren't perfect, though.

My one complaint is that the when you try to tighten the trucks the nut on the bottom spins. I think the truck was designed so that its not supposed to spin, but it does, just the same. You need to stick a thin piece of metal between the truck body and the nut to keep it from spinning. Not a huge deal, but a bit of a pain in an otherwise great product.

While I sit here complaining about my favorite set of trucks I may as well mention that the grommets (bushings, I guess) could have more rebound. The trucks should come in a narrower, too.

Randalls for Big Boys
On 7/2/1999 Matt wrote in from (206.25.nnn.nnn)

I am around 220 and I just bought some Randall 2's and they are fine. I don't really think that weight is a big concern when choosing trucks. I can tell you that if you want really good trucks then buy these. They turn on a dime and are very stable.

You guys and everybody else was right...These babies rock!
Being stuck in "Flatland"...- Ft. Lauderdale, FL...I won't
be bombing, but for cruising and carving anything I can, they
are tits! Committed the ultimate sin though and threw them
on a Sector9 Cosmic I...def. shorter than Randal had in mind,
I am sure. But until I build or decide on a longer board,
my feet are real happy! They get my vote!

large riders
On 7/1/1999 Keith Fellmy wrote in from (134.68.nnn.nnn)

Hi large guy

So am I. 5-10 215 pounds. I manily ride a luge but I've been speedboarding more lately. I use luge equipment most of the time. Randall luge trucks, Indy 215 trucks and Z-Roller trucks. Wheels I use are Satalite 76mm, Cherry Bombs, Labeda 90mm, Xtreme S/S, and a new wheels I've bgeen given that is called a Super Mondo. Haven't ridden the Mondos yet though. I've never had any problems with any of this equipment while lugeing or speedboarding. I just ride down hill I don't do much in the way of tricks. So I can't tell you how they will perform under that kind of stress.

Large Riders and Trucks?
On 7/1/1999 D.T. wrote in from (205.188.nnn.nnn)

I am new to bombing hills , so far just the 20 - 30 mph range , as i progress into faster speeds i have decided to upgrade my trucks and wheels....I'm 206lbs, 5'9, and wide frame...

-are there types of trucks or recommendations for larger riders ?

-has any other large riders ridden the randal or exkate, what do you think of them?

-i've heard alot about the pros of angled risers, are there any cons?

-i know this is the truck section, but does anyone have advice for wheels for larger riders?

-lastly, i've checked out the internet a lot but have found no pages on how to do Coleman and Powercarves , if a description could be e-mailed to me, I'd be stoked
e-mail : dtatpipe@aol.com

any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks

stoker trucks 1999
On 6/29/1999 herb n wrote in from (207.198.nnn.nnn)

well the springs and a special extra long cutter showed up today, so I'll be able to put the final touches on the baseplates. I'll try to finnish the spring holders, then I'll have to stare at them for a while to figure out how to position everything just right, the springs need to have a little tension on them and they should return to a centered position, even though most trucks really dont return to perfect center, these need to be better.

Randal RII's
On 6/29/1999 Jake wrote in from (205.188.nnn.nnn)

Hey-
I picked up a set of these and I want to let everone kno that they kick ass! I was riding 10" invaders on my Black29
until one of the axles started falling out, (scary huh?)and after trying the eXkates and the Randal's I have to say the RII is the best longboard truck you could score. I couldn't get the eXkate's to turn that 6' circle cus I am a freakin
toothpic (this was w/ the black bushing) but none the less,
I didn't like having to try to keep the board pointed straight. If you run the Randal's a lil bit loose they will have this slight wobble at high speeds, but once you dial them in, they will give you new confidence on the hills..not to mention the fact they still turn like mad and cost way less than the eXkates! Hook some up you won't be dissapointed.

angled risers (wedges)
On 6/29/1999 pierre wrote in from (207.253.nnn.nnn)

Angled risers, when placed with the thick part towards the center of your board, modify the turning radius of your trucks by changing the geometry of the combined pivot and kingpin angles. Try them, you will turn more
