The long awaited airing of a show Blue Smoke Racing shot this last summer is now showing on the HD Channel MOJO in a show called Gear. You will see some of my B-roll from a World Cup race in Ohio, the Jet Luge at the track and a street luge lesson with plenty of gratuitous shots of the big green ABEC11 sticker.
Special thanks to Chris Hicks and Chris Buono for being on the team that day. There is also have a spot with one of the Exkate's Electric boards on the show.
This is Gear episode 13 go here for the schedule http://www.mojohd.com/shows/view/1001832
# Saturday January 5 # 7:00AM ET # 4:00PM ET # Sunday January 6 # 9:00AM ET # 2:30PM ET
You have no idea how much video was not used.. 14 hours of shoot for an 8 minute piece. I had nothing to do with the edit and dorky comments.. hahaha

I just got off the phone with Matt. He sounds really good and appreciates the calls and visitors that he's received. We talked about the incident, how it happend and what we believe caused his injuries. If you haven't already talked to him, please take a few minutes and give him a call!!! His number is 661 565 8013. They still haven't closed up his leg wounds due to swelling. Matt thinks they will do that this afternoon and is hopeful he will be released on Saturday. Matt has a facebook profile so please look him up and give him a friend request. You can find him as "Matt Thiede, Cal Poly 09."

Matt Thiede Update

Here is an update on Matt given by his sister Melissa.
Matt is doing great! He now has a titanium rod inside his Tibia and a dozen or so random pins throughout his foot and fibula. Apparently the bones were sort of peeled out of his leg by the impact of the crash and his gaping flesh wounds were to swollen to sew up yesterday. So he's got at least one more surgery to close up the wounds later this week. We're still here at USC waiting for transfer back home to San Luis Obispo, which will hopefully be tomorrow.
Matt is quite eager to see any footage from the crash and has me scouring this site and you tube for anything I might find. So if it's floating around here somewhere let him know.
If you want to give him a call or swing by the hospital he would love it, his phone is 661 565 8013, (mine is 661 900 2782 if his is dead)and he is in room 3821 at USC General Hospital for now at least.
Thanks to everyone who took care of him this weekend, and helped work out all the random details in the chaos of his little accident!
~Melissa Thiede

I just received an update on Matt Thiede's condition who was injured at the Bonelli Park race yesterday. Matt had surgery today to repair his avulsed (skin torn away from bone) toes and place a rod in his ankle. He did not break his femur. They also did reconstructive surgery to his lower leg and he will have further surgeries this week. Matt is expected to make a full recovery and should be racing again in 6-12 months. He is in good spirits. Once I have contact information for the hospital I will post it here.

Just a pic of what involvment in streetluge led to, at least for me. It was a downhill car with 4 wheel steering, sticky tires and roll cage. They were called GF1. The sketch is the only drawing I made of the concept , the car was built from it, 1991. Downhill racing can lead to al kinds of other stuff.

This is a stage 3 design I built in NY for an attempt on the recor for SPEEDLUGE, the unlimited class. Moved back to Calif, before I could run it to full speed. It had a special chute. I know it's not a streetluge but I kind dig going faster.

I found this old pic. I ran this when it was called laydown skateboarding, as Streetluge was coined later. I called this the Daytona and considered it a stage 2 design . It's what followed the style of board at that time that had only a single front fairing. She was so fast. This pic was a good day at Templin Hiway, CA.

A friend and myself do street luge in the greater seattle area and are looking for more people to ride with. We plan to have an event at some point if we can get enough riders. We can show any one some basics and or show people how to even ride. Contact me if you are interested.
