hi guys i admire your brave heart,do you have to be unemployed to do this? i have been studing the art of lugee and from what i can tell your not really skateboarders. it seems like you are those guys on the cruisers that ride up and down the streets looking for the next place to party. you know those older guys that are like 40 that think there in high school. Tell me without a drivers licence how do you all get to those places on the weekends. Dagoo something to do on weekends.how did you get in the x-games?

Flipping the hanger is fairly simple. Undo the kingpin nut, remove the hanger from the baseplate. Turn it around 180 degrees, put it back on the baseplate. Bolt the nut back onto the kingpin.
What you have done is change the geometry of the truck. The back truck turns a little less now.

Yes you can flip the hangers on R2's. Many people who run R2b's for their buttboards flip the rear truck (both of the 180's point backwards)
The common truck for luge are the Randal Floating axles, but not for the floating axles.

How do I go about making a street luge? Alternately, where do I buy one? I don't want to race, just to ride.

I just spent all day in my workshop. I have created my first street luge. I just took it out for a little spin and I have fallen in love already. I was impressed by my own craftsmanship, she rolls clean and straight. Can't wait to build my next one!

hc.. Bonny Warner was the first Olympic Luger from America .Duncan Kennedy was at the luge demo also . Believe he is still competing .He had a buttboard at the demo , but they wouldn't let us race against the East German luge down Sandhill Road .I rode the hill on my tubeframe with 70mm Kryps and would have smoked that "Summer Sled". Morse Cable used on boats and planes has both push and pull capabilities and might be useful to your "loose and lock" idea....FL

If you want a safe ride, the safe bet would be the Randal luge truck with the floating axles. Seize a wheel bearing at 60mph+ and that floating axle can save your life. It seems that safety comes second with IGSA rules and tech inspections. They claim the high price of the Randals forced the ban.....yea right, just another bad excuse for a dumb/needless rule. At $75.00 each, they are probably the best value in trucks today!!

a word of advice, if you plan on racing the igsa does not allow "floating axles" on classic luge boards. so if you plan on racing the safe bet would be R-II's with the hanger flipped and harder bushings, or R-II B's.

the choice between z-rollers and randal trucks are personal preference. alot of guys use randals because they were designed specifically for street luge. the z-rollers people use are the maxi truck with the urethane covering the axle. you can buy them at http://www.irssports.com i've only ever ridden z's so my opinion would be one sided.

m, (btw i buttboard only)
first, trucks don't go fast, riders do.
the jist is that quicker steering z-roller is more suited to the older, flexier rail design, while the randal is good for the roger-bro style luge, stiffer, use of tubing...
(most of the top guys are on roger-bros luge or similar)
but if you are a beginner, a randal rII flipped would be quite adequate.

fl, whose bonny warners?
didn't know those thing had cable-pull action,
Fred, check this, had this idea for a while, but i am too lazy to make it. (not quite sure anyone done it before, maybe that maddox guy)
image a regular lean-steer frt truck, with a push/pull steering addition. (different methods possible)
you can ran a looser front, use your hand to 'help' with the steering, 'lock' the lean angle with your hand, less use of the stomach muscle, etc..
hmmm, makes me want to make it now...

Hey hc...That was the same east german luge I rode at Bonny Warners luge demo...Steered hard to the left if you let go of the steering cable{think they crashed it and sold it to the U.S. team for 1900 hundred bucks } Sure had a smooth undertray on it. P.S. It steered by pulling on the inside cable and pushed on the outside runner with your calf. No boom , but your legs were supported at the calf .FL
