I had a chance to see this road last year and yeehaw! it will be an awsome road to race on.

(Copied from Streetluge.net)

a.k.a the wicked fun Lobstha run) is coming together as we speak. We are in the process of putting together some more information for this event including airfare, travel times, places to stay and other details. Including some video of the road. Speaking of the road, the pictures posted don’t do it justice. It is MUCH steeper and more technical and hopefully the video will show it better. (here is a sneak peek….. SNEAK PEEK VIDEO SEEN HERE: http://gravitysportsinternational.com/yorkvideo/tims_road2.mov )

We had to speed it up to reduce the size. But it gives you a better idea of the ride)
We hope to get back up in another week or so to ride and get better video from the riders’ perspective. No doubt this road is going to be fun!

We found some great room rates and have lined up a company to do some Sea Kayaking on Sunday for anyone interested. Remember the town of York is ocean front! We are also working on putting together something for Saturday night. We have not set any entry fees yet, however you can be assured it will be very reasonable as is with all GSI events.

We are working hard to put together an affordable and fun event in hope’s that we can entice a few west coast riders to come out for a true downeast experience. Not to mention the first time gravity sports comes to Maine. (my home state by the way). So we are expecting some decent media coverage. And it IS VACATIONLAND!
We’ll get these details and other information up within a week or two. In the mean time don’t hesitate to contact Sean (riluge@hotmail.com) or myself if anyone has any questions.

by the way airport codes for:
Portland, ME - PWM
Manchester, NH - MHT
Boston, MA - BOS

I am extremely sorry for any inconveniences this may cause, however, due to issues with the Athens City Council, the KING of the HILL event has been moved from Athens Ohio to Bainbridge Ohio, home of the 2000, 2001, and 2002 Ohio World Cups, for April 16 (open practice) and April 17th.

This will be a two day IGSA National event. Friday from 11am till dark will be an open practice session. Saturday will host a mourning practice session, qualifying, and the racing! This will host all gravity sports including stand up!

This venue has been used in the past, and as anyone who has raced Jester Hill can tell you, it's one of the fastest, most challenging courses around. Expect the pit area and course itself to be revamped, and have a loud, energetic, party atmosphere. A DJ, amoung other cool extras, have been organized for the event. Expect a world class feel at this one.

The same focus on bringing in media for the event that was planned for the Athens race will still be in place for Bainbridge. Press Releases have gone out, and we are expecting a very good media turn out, so be sure to brush that hair and wash your leathers.

Red Bull energy drink will be helping out with the after party in Chillocothe Ohio. The after party will have TVs and VCRs to be able to review any footage from the racings. This after party will be open to all competitors.

Hotel discounts and trophy and prize announcements will be made shortly.
Again I appologize for any inconvenience this has caused. This was an inter-city issue with Athens that was out of my hands. I would like to the thank IGSA for supporting the event as they were hit with this change as suddenly as myself. But all things aside, this will be an amazing race that will have all of the great race aspects as it always has, along with the unique attention to media, prizes, and venue atmosphere as the planned Athens race.

Thanks all,
Dean

Frank and I would like to Thank Everyone for coming out and participating! We would also like to extend our Thanks to the GBA for their support and participation! Thanks to Dirtbag Clothing for providing shirts, hats, stickers and etc. for prizes! Thanks to Twisted Forest and the Lil’ Darlin Girls for their support! Thanks to Jeremy Jacobsen for providing Good Food for sale all weekend! Thanks to Colleen with Fork Clothing for joining us on Sunday. I also want to give a huge Thank You to Dave Rogers, who ran our start line Sunday and really did a Great Job!
And again I want to Thank All of you (the athletes and fans) that come, sometimes from long distances, to participate. You all make it a whole bunch of fun!

It was a beautiful weekend for racing and we took good advantage of it. The hills were green after the recent rains and the weather was warm in the day, chilly at night.
Saturday we offered open practice all day, which gave everyone a good chance to get used to the course. Saturday night’s ritual trip to Tecate was a complete success. Even though the border patrol tried to make Jeremy Kahn erase all his footage of the crossing. Jeremy is a clever guy and avoided complete erasure. Good job Jeremy!
Due to a brilliant full moon, a sizeable group of riders opted to race a Tecate 500. Which is only ran at night by the moonlight. I was not a participant and I hope that others that were will share their story of the event.
Race day provided sunny warm weather with Santa Ana winds that briskly picked up the Speed Demon’s pop up and carried it 25 feet or so. Despite the strong gusty tail winds the conditions were good and racers were ready to go.
Standup Speedboarders raced first, then Ύ Faring Gravity Bike, Butt Board, Stock Gravity Bike and last up was Street Luge. The events ran smoothly with a few light and a few bruises and scrapes but no major injuries reported. Racing was complete just about 4pm, with the sun sinking behind the western mountains.
It was a perfect ending to a great weekend of racing!

I would like to ask, if anyone has pictures of the event, please post, email, or contact us. There is a Barrett Junction site and I would like to update it after this last race.

Thanks Again to Everyone! Let’s think about another race in May or June? What’s your opinion?

I had a blast at Park City in Utah at the Olympic Sport Park this Feb. 6th. It was a "scare the s#@! out of me", "kick me in the head" rush session and I loved it!
Those of you lugers who did not grab the chance to do this...well all I can say is... TOUGH TITS!!!!! What a rush! Thanks Marcus and BOB for putting this together and Gordy of the USA LUGE Association (and 2002 olypmic silver medalist in ice luge...), you are da man!

USA Luge Press Release

For immediate release February 4, 2004

Calling all Street Lugers

PARK CITY, Utah --- USA Luge and the International Gravity Sports Association (IGSA) have teamed up to offer an open session of sliding for IGSA street lugers on Friday, Feb. 6, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the 2002 Olympic luge course in Park City, Utah.

“This is an excellent opportunity for the street luge athletes to experience the fastest sport on ice,” said USA Luge marketing director Gordy Sheer. “It’ll be a lot of fun to see what type of speeds these athletes reach and how they’ll make the adjustment from the street luge sled to the Olympic style sled.”

In April, USA Luge and the IGSA reached an exclusive agreement to assist each other in promoting both Olympic style and street luge. “This is part of that cooperation,” offered Sheer. “USA Luge has been working with the IGSA to obtain track time in Park City.”

Later this summer, the best U.S. luge athletes from the 2003-04 racing season will be invited to attend a week-long street luge training camp at the Wild Fro Racing School at the San Luis Reservoir State Recreation Area, near San Jose, Calif.

In addition to Friday’s sliding on the world’s fastest track, three IGSA athletes, Andy Lally (Northport, N.Y.), Bill Smrtic (Tulsa, Okla.) and South African Richard Knaggs, will also have the opportunity to train the following week with a goal of qualifying for Sunday’s, Feb. 15, U.S. Masters National Championships, also in Park City.

The IGSA, based in Glendora, Calif., was formed in 1996 and is the sanctioning body for a number of gravity sports, including street luge. Last year, the IGSA hosted over 20 gravity sports competitions on the continents of Africa, Europe and North America.

For more information on the IGSA, log on to their Web site at www.gravity-sports.com.

I work in video production as well as computer animation. I could put a show together but I don't know any other lugers in my area. I suppose people could send me tapes and I could edit a show, kind of like a weekly TV magazine. Next time I go to an event I could do a highlight about it maybe.

I was just hoping that the Gravity Games would include street luge under the new OLN onwership.
