Buy Street Luge Sled
On 7/4/2006 John wrote in from United States  (138.163.nnn.nnn)

Back in the day I was apart of the US National Luge Team. (olympic style) I got away from it because I joined the Marine Corps. Well I am currently stationed over here on lovely Okinawa, Japan and have gotten the itch to do luge again. Well of course since its a sub-tropical island there is no chance of snow but (there are plenty of HUGE hills here) I want to pick up a "Street Luge sled" Can someone point me in the right direction so I can purchase one? I don't have the time or resources/equipment to build my own, otherwise I would.

Cheers

Luge costs
On 5/24/2006 Don J wrote in from United States  (64.115.nnn.nnn)

Hey, I bought 2 luges, and they avg from $150 up to $900 and more, but realistically, around $250-300 with shipping if you look around. There is one on ebay from Australia, but I got mine from the states. Some will tell you to "build one, it's cheaper and you learn". But I live in an apartment and I'm lazy. Good luck.

Learn to Luge highlights and photos
On 5/15/2006 Dean wrote in from United States  (24.160.nnn.nnn)

This last weekend was our Learn To Street Luge Day here in Columbus Ohio thanks to A.D.Farrow Harley Davidson.

We were expecting a turn out of 150-200, but due to some Ohio weather didn't get the full turn out. Never the less, Central Ohio is not full of new street lugers.

The one day event with 6 hours of luging was open to anyone in the Columbus area, but focused on children 8-15. Despite the focus on children, we found more adults taking an interest. The event was rounded out with free food and music from CD101, shwag from Ninja Bearings, an appearance by the Columbus Bombshells, and an appearance and the chance to try wheeled Ice Luge sleds from the US Ice Luge team.

Despite lower than expected turn-out due to weather, I think everyone involved was very happy with the response from the event. We will be holding another Learn To Luge Day this fall. The sponsors are also looking at expanding the event to team building programs, and more of an adult focus as well.

The US Ice Luge Team cross-promoted for the event and the Slider Search held on the same hill this Sunday. A big thanks goes out to them, A.D. Farrow Harley Davidson, CD101, The Columbus Bombshells, Ninja Bearings, Demon Promotions, Scott Peer and the Westwood Ski Club, Smokin Joe, Scott Edwards, and all of our volunteers.

Athlete/Equipment needed for "Learn To Street Luge Day"!
On 4/30/2006 Dean wrote in from United States  (65.25.nnn.nnn)

I need other riders and eqiupment for Saturday May 13th here in Columbus Ohio for the Learn to Street Luge Day brought to you by A.D. Farrow Co. Harley-Davidson of Columbus.

This event is geared for children 8-15, and will take place from 10am - 4pm on the Soapbox Derby hill in Big Run Park in Columbus Ohio. Children will have a chance to learn one of the world's most extreme sports along side professional riders. The Columbus Destoryers official dance team, The Bombshells, will be on hand along with the CD101 ice cream truck for music and food, along with other extreme exhibitors. The US Ice Luge team will also be in attendance meeting participants and registering children for the following Sunday's USA Luge Slide Search on the same hill.

Right now I have a few luges, but could really use as many board and riders as we could get. Even if you can't attend, anyone willing to donate equipment for the weekend would be greatly appriciated.

This is a great chance to legitimize the sport and bring it into the public eye in a family/community friendly, and safe way. We will be doing several radio, tv, newspaper spots and mailings and expect to bring approx. 150 participants.

Visit http://www.DeanStreetLuge.com for more information.

Anyone who can help, please contact me at dean@deanstreetluge.com or call at 740 405 6848

Big thanks already to AD Farrow Harley-Davidson, Demon Promotions, CD101, 99.7 the Blitz, Scott Peer and the Westwood Ski Club, US Ice Luge team, and all of our volunteers.

Why don't you address yourself like a man, unless I'm talking to a BOY........ and if so then I applogize.

I want to thank Marcus Reitena & Bob Ozman for keeping the true spirit of this sport alive.

Wow Nippleless. Are you retarded? Or semi-retarded? Because at least that would be and excuse to explain how retarded your post was. Roger kicks ass, hes won like every race possible, and he was probobly racing while you were still in your Pampers brother. You have to look at from the big picture: Roger hepled this sport progess SO much, and so many people dont relize it. So instead of bagging on him, and taking your anger from not having any nipples out on him, take a step back and breathe, because if it wasnt for the guys in the "older" decade, this sport would be nowhere.

Now this is funny and dude you should be a comedian,,,,,, I have not been on here in ages and my friend Perry Fisser, which you did not include in your vast knowledge of the historian racers in Stretluge, but has done more then all of those you did mention, called me laughing at the "ridiculous" statement you made about me suing ESPN for some fight tape Biker and myself had. First off I have never sued ESPN, nor would I want to, and if they actually aired that tape that is cool since I walked out of that in pretty good shape for fighting four guys, and went on to win that race later that day.
To your other point of us being "old guys" that pushed the "limits" of another decade, once again you have shown your extreme depth of knowledge to your sport of choice. You are right about one thing, if you want to show guys of today, I am not the one, but they called me to film someone who put in 25 years in the sport and the only ones that I know on your list for that task would be Bob Ozman and Lee D.
Keep up the good work Nipple Boy, Streetluge needs another reporter from the Enquire......... rumors so help the validity of everything. At least that part of the sport has never changed.
Marcus, thanks for the respect at the last race and pointing out to me that I never have anything to prove ever again,,,,,, I much appreciate it.
RWH

PS - I was thinking about remaking a couple of the Eagle Streetluge boards for those of you that want them, but you will have to update the clay wheels from what we used to race "decades" ago.

Wasn't one of the reasons ESPN dropped standup from the xgames was due to Hickey sueing ESPN for airing the footage of him and Biker fighting?????

i think thats a rad oppurtunity for lugers but i hope they pick guys that have been pushing the limits of this decade not yesteryear.

i have a lot of respect for guys like Waldo, Mason, Pererya, Oz, Duck, Leemo, Biker, etc but these guys hardly ride let alone Hickey.

i sure hope they pick guys like Rogers bros, Rob Reuman, Meehan bros, and Tyler Wendtland. Especially the young guns.

guys that go out and PUSH IT consistently in our CURRENT times!

IGSA World Champions & World Cup Champions
On 3/20/2006 Marcus Rietema wrote in from United States  (67.164.nnn.nnn)

I want to clear up some confusion and set the record straight on past IGSA World Champions and World Cup Champions. The first is that these are two seperate titles that a competitor can win each year.

The IGSA started the World Cup Series in 2001 to crown an overall series champion at the end of each calender year. Every year each competitors four highest point scoring finishes are added together. The rider with the greatest number of points is declared the IGSA World Cup Champion. We limit the number of races counted to four so that it is not simply the rider who attends the most races who is the champion. To become the World Cup Champion takes consistency, strong finishes and a dedication to the sport.

Each year since 2002, the IGSA has designated one event as the IGSA World Championships. This is our biggest and most prestigious event of the year. If a rider wins this raced he is the IGSA World Champion for the next year. A rider does not need to attend a single other event the entire year to earn this title. If a rider wins the World Championships, they were the best on that particular hill on that particular day against the toughest competition in the world.

Since the IGSA World Cup Series began in 2001, there have been three riders who have won both the Street Luge and Classic Luge titles. They are Dave Rogers (2001), Rian James (2004) and David Dean (2005). In 2005 David Dean also won the Street Luge and Classic Luge classes at the World Championships in Jungholz, Austria. He is the only rider to ever win both the IGSA World Cup Series Championship and the IGSA World Championships in the same year. I hope this clears up the confusion.

2001 Dave Rogers (USA)
