John Rogers took the number one qualifying spot for tomorrows IGSA North American Championship Street Luge race in San Dimas, CA. He was followed by Tyler Wendtland and Brent DeKeyser in second and third place respectively. All three riders qualified within .278 of a second of each other! Rob Ruhman and Justin Tolman rounded out the top five. In all 16 riders took qualifying runs in Street Luge.
The big story of the day was the trecherous Seismic Corner. The lugers were routinely being clocked at speeds in excess of 50mph upon entering the off camber, ninety degree turn. Nearly every rider tasted the straw bales with some notably huge offs by Waldo Autry, Brian Lee, Rick Wilson and Albert Takubarian. Fortunately none of the riders walked away with more than a few bumps and bruises. The course proved to be a big challenge for everyone today and really tested every ounce of their skill.
The action starts tomorrow with morning warm up runs beginning at 9:00am. The North American Championship Street Luge Race is scheduled to start at 1:30 pm. Admission to the park is $7.00 per carload. Admission to the event is free. For more information on the event or the IGSA, please visit www.gravity-sports.com.

First off, Brenden great job, that is very fast, although...Darren Lott has gone faster than that....Perhaps it's a record in Teutônia, none the less need to go over 83mph

I build custom luges. They can be seen on Chris McBrides Website and Street-luge.com. If you need one built, I'd be happy to build one for you. I'm currently building the new 07 model. I could send you pictures if you e-mail me... TRS

I'm new to street luge and am looking for a board. After searching web sites, I see that rewsport street luge offered by Andy Lally is about the most affordable peggless luge out their. Does anyone ride one of these or know someone that does? I would appreciate your (or their) input. I don't have the tools to build my own so I am looking for a prefabricated luge if anyone has any suggestions.

Extend your footpegs towards the front, so your legs are stretched flat instead of bent, keep the front truck mid thigh, and the rear close to your head. Thats still a luge no matter how you look at it. I dont have to say pads, since the last guy did. What kind of trucks and wheels ya got on that? Pretty cool

Just pointing out the lack of protective gear (leathers, decent helmet, gloves etc). Everyone wants to have fun but you don't want your first run to end up at the hospital.

This comes up every year, Guiness does NOT list all of their records in their website and when I contacted them last year they where not interested in coming out to record any record that could place them at risk in a liability lawsuit.
As for Darren Lott's buttboard record all records are subdivided by classes, Darren’s record is a gravity sports record for Buttboard and Tom’s record is a gravity sports record for Streetluge two different classes. This is going to happen to Powered Streetluge also, we will end up with speed records for Gas, Jet, Rocket, Electric and any other power source that someone attaches to a streetluge.
Now if you want to debate Powered Streetluge versus Gravity Streetluge, I run on flat land as does Bob Swartz but the Guiness record is held by Billy Copeland who fired his rockets while running down hill. How do we address that???
It’s all about the need for speed and the funny thing is this debate goes on every year but the people out there with that need who are pushing the limits are not the ones debating it.
My recent runs at the World of Speed 2006 event held on the Bonneville Salt Flat UT. http://www.saltflats.com/aresults091306.htm http://www.saltflats.com/aresults091406.htm
