Wheel Review
that first millimeter
On 8/8/1999 Herb n wrote in from (207.198.nnn.nnn)

Is it just me, but the outer surface of soft wheels just seems so grippy and so fast and perfect and just a lot better than the inner urithane that you wear down to all to quickly.

madrid/ envy wheels
On 8/6/1999 Herbn wrote in from (207.198.nnn.nnn)

Decided just to check these madrid blank 72mm wheels because they totally do not stand out, and didn't cost that much and they look exactly like Envy wheels, and a friend of mine had those and they seemed ok. They seemed quite good last night, a little different type of traction than Kryptonic urithane but still good. What I'd like to know is,does anyone have a lot of time on these wheels and how did they hold up ,and how do they do in a race against other wheels?

XT 8ballz
On 8/5/1999 Lono wrote in from (205.215.nnn.nnn)

I must defend them. I do agree that they are slower than urethane wheels, and heavy. BUT the benefit is TRACTION. These stick like glue. It's almost imposible to get them to break loose. The difference in traction is huge! So, yeah, for flats they suck. For steep hills where you NEED to carve to scrub speed, they provide unparalled confidence.

XT Wheelz
On 8/4/1999 Adam wrote in from (208.151.nnn.nnn)

I can attest to the poor streetability of XT Wheelz dirt wheel (the one with chevron treads). They simply don't roll anywhere near as far as a Kryptonic or other quality urethaen wheel. And they are heavy to boot. Since I don't ride off-street, I can't comment on XT's abilities there (where they were designed to be ridden). For all you hoping they will rip on asphalt, don't fool yourself.

XT 8ballz
On 8/4/1999 Jake wrote in from (152.163.nnn.nnn)

Has anyone had these for awhile and still liken em?
I bought a set a couple months ago, rode em for a couple days, and now they're gathering dust. Why? Well, these things are heavy, slow, and they made my 183mm invaders ride like a set of venture feather lites. I liked the A/T's.. in the grass, but I guess there's a reason why street skateboard wheels are made out of urethane. The lesson here: TRY BEFORE YOU BUY
I mean they didn't totally suck, some people might like em.

Krypto Classic 70mm Versus Power Paws
On 8/4/1999 Andrew wrote in from (195.157.nnn.nnn)

I've been riding Kryptonics Classic 70mm (red) and Power
Paws over the streets of London for the past month so I
reckon I'm in a good position to compare them:

Softness: The Kryptos are soft, but the Power Paws are even
softer (I'd estimate 78A v. 73 A). This makes the Power
Paws about as soft as the old red Kryptos from the 70s.
The Power Paws are great on London's uneven pavements because you really can roll over the worst bumps and not feel anything. Much.

Wear: The Kryptos win here. They are wearing unbelievably
well whereas the Power Paws have considerable scratches
and little bits breaking off on the inside rim. Nothing too
serious, though.

Speed: It's a tie. Maybe the Kryptos very slightly faster
on smooth surfaces.

Grip: Both very grippy.

General: The Kryptos seem slightly better made, moulded
better. My Power Paws look a bit of a mess already. but who
cares. The Power Paws are getting my vote for the streets,
and they're the wheels on my board.

XT A/T
On 8/3/1999 SlideRider wrote in from (195.204.nnn.nnn)

The XT A/T are just to damn heavy. I live in a place with many hills, and it sucks to carry the board up those hills because of its weight!

Hey Steve,
If you want the bearings to work as they should and last,
you need the spacers regardless of the wheels core.
It's got notheing to do with the core- the bearings
require the spacer to function at their full potential.
Ask any machinist or good mechanic. Look at the post on
this site regarding why this is so. Use the spacers!

Power Paw / Spacers
On 7/29/1999 Steve C wrote in from (205.215.nnn.nnn)

Power Paw wheels are the best wheel out this year. They have Kevlar cores which shouldn't melt down and the outside edge is more square than Kryptos giving them a better response when you turn.

Find Power Paw wheels as stock components NOW on all Deplo Skateboards.

SPACERS...For everybody's information are not needed on wheels with hard cores. A spacer was/is used on wheels with urethane bearing seats. They just need more support.

On 7/29/1999 Herbn wrote in from (207.198.nnn.nnn)

yes thats it,21 days they're 5mm smaller and one of them is badly coned. They were awesome my first downhill spongies,my next victim are some white 76mm*78a roadriders they seem to be a little stiffer because of theyre fat lip design Ill breakem in tonight and then maybe take them down a freshly repaved twisty street down from 9w,gotta go.

formula 1 big black clouds 64mm
On 7/25/1999 Herb n wrote in from (207.198.nnn.nnn)

just looked back, it was around the seventh of this month that i got these wheels they are all right around 60mm and one is fairly coned ,now don't get me wrong I put em downhell sideways and they didn't flatspot as my harder wheels usually do. I want to try some bigger wheels Sector 70s probabely ,I'll a couple of gentler rides to see if they decone put they probabely won't. Wheels are temporary; if they last you a real long time your not having enough fun.

Power Paws
On 7/21/1999 Matt wrote in from (206.25.nnn.nnn)

So far the Power Paws have been really nice. They roll over anything. They hold well on hard turns but if I want I can get them to slide fairly easily. Keep in mind I am a big guy.

Get Spacers!!

YUP - you should get them. They connect the inner core of the bearings making them work as they are designed to.

Sorry but I need clarification on spacers
On 7/20/1999 Matt wrote in from (206.25.nnn.nnn)

All the wheels that I have owned (sector9 and power paws) have an area that the bearing sits in. It is almost like they have spacers built in. Do I need spacers if thats the case, I have never had a problem with my wheels or bearings and I have been riding for a few years.

the current Krypto cruise classic is a 'true' skateboard
wheel with a full 10mm spacer and they work great. true-
they ain't great for sliding- but they are quiet, grippy,
and fast.

exkates-spacers
On 7/19/1999 tc wrote in from (209.178.nnn.nnn)

as long as we are on the subject, I thought I would throw in that the 76mm turbo wheel comes with spacers- and that the bearings sit in a core - that adds up to a rattle free, super smooth ride. With Red China bones in them, they'll spin at least 30 seconds.

Exkate 76mm turbo wheels
On 7/19/1999 tc wrote in from (209.178.nnn.nnn)

Just got some of these in the red (cherry bomb) flavor. These are the grippiest, fastest wheels I've ridden. And, they look super cool too. If you are thinking of going for a big wheel, these "look" like they are better than the 76mm Livewires and Gravitys. I teamed them with RII's (the best truck ever made) on a 60" board I made and it was the fastest, smoothest, most stable board I have ever ridden. Try 'em.
