The main purpose of sandboard wax is to assist the board to break free from the initial grab of friction. Many types of wax will do that and only that. True sandboard wax is computer formulated not only to break free but break free quickly and stay on the board as long as possible to sustain the initial effect. Positive conditioning of the base as well as protection from heat and contaminants are secondary benefits from real sandboard wax as well. You can smear spagetti sauce on a tortilla and call it a pizza. You can even eat it, but a real pizza is soooo much better and is available anywhere. Don't settle for floor polish or any substitute when there are a number of inexpensive quality sandboard waxes out there. To check out the "Real Pizza" contact Sand Master Park at: http://www.sandmasterpark.com They ship anywhere in the world.

OK. I am a beginner in sandboarding. I am building up 10 new boards for a group of Texas Tech kids to go boarding here in Texas. We are going to Monahans State Park in a couple of weeks. I am building the boards out of 1/2" 9-ply birch with formica base. Each board is roughly 12"x60" twin tips. I assume DR. Dune's Speed wax is the best wax to use, but I am having a little trouble getting ahold of any place to buy some. My dad grew up around the sand hills in Kermit and Monahans Texas, and they always used candles or Gulfwax canning wax. I have heard to use everything from carnauba to parifin, to hard wood floor wax, to even liquid teflon.
What is the best and what are the alternatives? Do I need to re-wax before each run? How much wax do I need to apply each time? Anywhere I can get Dr. Dune's Speed Wax rather quickly? How do I go about hot waxing and is it necessary?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Sandboards are primarily available online. Payaso makes a terrian board with inserted attachment nuts with thumbscrews. Check sandskate.com to see the difference between sandskates and sandboards. Sandboards being snowboardlike with bindings and sandskates are smaller and more darty. Leave a post if you want more info.

It isn't completely understood by the masses that sandboarding is like snowboarding and wakeboarding and skateboarding mixed together with a sprinkle of surfing. It has the rail playing body hucking psycho effect of wakeboarding, combined with the airbourne soulful glide of snowboarding, the tick tack attack of skateboarding and the similar rail response of the resistance water gives to a surfboard. Sounds unreal doesn't it. I too would not believe it myself, having tried to get glide on various failing mediums. Like Jack Smith before me, I possesed over design. I hadn't even known Jack when we met on suicides. He was with gary fluit and they were riding the board that they had put 15 years of thought into. I had not even sandskated the other avialable spots that Jack had favoured. We had designed VERY different board, and they both work. The straight fact is that sandboarding is very fast. Speeds upwards of 50mph have been clocked, and I assure you that you with toast your balls if you do a layback speed rub. Massive dunes around the would go unridded. Our coastal terrain spots are few and far between, and excess usage can make a spot unglidable. Acceleration is so fast on a well WAXED AND BUFFED FORMICA BOTTOM That on an average ridable incline, you would get going fast enough that you would do a can opening anchor sprawl in exchange for ever finding terminal velocity. The only real problem is that the glide is only maxing out in the top 600 feat of any decent. There are dunes that are 2000 feet up. But we can think small when it comes to creating sandparks just a we do skateparks or playgrounds for that matter. If you are reading this and understand the potentials, please respond. for topics and inquery go to the video page at www.sandskate.com
