I think that Rodney Mullen's style is a unique form of freestyle. I believe he is the only being to be able to break the boundries of to forms of this disciplin.

I found this shot of me back in 1982 at Texas A&M. I skated too much to keep up my grades but I can still hang the wheelies to this day. The board was a cut down Caster w/ Tracker Midtrack magnesium trucks and Bones 60mm Freestyle wheels. I had a piece of cutting board material at the back, dual rail sliders and all the Tracker plastic on the trucks. This was my freestyle/street ride

According to WFSA records there are more known freestylers in the UK than another area in the world...hundreds of them!
Several UK freestylers are among the top in the world, most notable is Darran Nolan who has drawn the attention of Rodney Mullen recently!
The BFSN, the only known freestyle organization in the UK and composed of young men, some only of high school age, has hosted several highly successful championships at N.A.S.S., such as the Euro Championship and just recently the World Championship. As far as I can tell this is the youngest group of skaters to produce a Pro World Championship of any kind in the history of skateboarding.
More importantly is the fact that they have inspired other freestylers of their age to produce championship level events in other countries.
Lets get it straight...the UK is on the cutting edge of the current global freestyle scene.

England Sucks?

Since when did England suck for freestyle? There's quite a thriving group of freestylers, certainly far more than when I started...there were maybe 6 or 7 dedicated guys that were known. Now there's probably over 20. If freestyle products were sold over here, it'd still cost less to buy it from America, so it doesn't matter that there's no companies over here..
Sidewalk and Document have had small freestyle references and articles, and Andy Evans has included freestyle in his new video 'This 'n' That'. We're being noticed alot more. So what sucks.. we have a growing scene, plenty of flat ground, products flowing out of our ears, and we're gaining recognition.
I think it's time to organise another national UK jam...

We're jammin again -- this time in Georgia. Come out and join SK8KINGS Richy Carrasco and Frank Lee to jam on Saturday. Bring your steel 360 wheels -- surface is good we hear! Don't miss the slalom clinic in the morning -- perfect chance to hone your skills or to try it out for the first time. Newbies are welcome.
Clinic, Jam, Race -- and it's free too!
Huge props to Woody's Halfpipe Boardshop in Georgia for sponsoring/hosting this event. Woody's is a great local source for freestyle & slalom gear. Show them some love for supporting the scene.

Mike Mullen -
My brothers and I saw Gary at TOY CITY - I believe it was 1975... he was doing a skateboard demonstration there with the late Tom Padaca.
I think they were representing GrenTec at that time.
Gary is definitely one of the best skateboard freestylists I have ever seen.
BTW - - -
Richy was interviewed by CBS TV 'SPORTS CENTRAL' today -
