Monday July 30, 2007 : 09:04 PM Freestyle is Undead?
This past weekend the skate friendly city of Vancouver, Canada played host to this year’s World Freestyle Skateboard Championships. Like slalom, this once lost art seems to be growing in popularity and old pros and new young (guns?) traveled from regions of Germany, Sweden, Brazil and the USA just to be there. The contest took place in Robson Square located at the University of British Columbia.
Final Results
Masters 1st Gary Holl (USA) 2nd Lyle Chippaway (Canada) 3rd Mike McGaughey (Canada)
Am 1. Maxe Jeblick (Germany) 2. Christian Opperman (USA) 3. Jon Bunn (USA)
Pro 1. Kevin Harris (Canada) 2. Lillis (Sweden) 3. Per Kangaru (Brazil)
360s 1. Gary Holl - 47 1/2 2. Kevin Harris - 46

You mentioned ".....like making your board dance".
Check out this photo I took in 2003 -
This photo is of Juice Magazines' Terri Craft - during a WLAC G.S. Race.
If you look behind her - it looks like that guys board is dancing by itself ! -trippy huh?

Ya, I'm out here in Southern California, in the Marine Corps. I'm skating freestyle again after 21 years! Why the hell not.. I love the freedom of expression and it's fun. I'm 41 now, relearning all my tricks and learning new ones too.. See ya soon.
Butter out!
This is kinda cool, should I bust out the neon shorts, athletic tape for my fingers and shin guards.....naaaaaaa. Let me tell you that if you think MIDTOWN is only slalom you are WRONG. We grew up on the flat skating freestyle. Perhaps we can get a session going somewhere up here in NorCal... Rey Meyer, Keith Butterfield, Ray Gardea, Anthony Sedillo are you guys out there????

Sven's truck question

Sven, do you mean 'street tracks' ? If so, they're fine, expect for the the size of bushings you can fit on the low kingpin (limits turn somewhat). This can be easily fixed with Gnarly,B-2,Dart,RTS or even Quicktrack bases that have the longer kingpin. Or you can try putting in a new kingpin bolt a few MM longer, or just pick your bushings with care (best solution, if it works). Longer kingpins on those will make grinds, um, touchy, so be careful there.
Don't put Randals on a short wheelbase deck, as they'll be really squirrely with any speed behind them.

If you are going to list all the sponsered teams during the 60's why not include the Imperial Skateboard team from Torrance. There must have been a reason that team was used in the SkaterDater Movie

Street trucks for carving?

I just made a 26" deck for tight carves, but the only trucks I have are randall 180s and some old street trucks. Will the street trucks work well for carving and/ or are they basically the same as tracker darts? Or do I have to drop $30 on new trucks.
