The Best Bearings For Under $5??

Yes, you read right. You can get really good, fast bearings for under 5 dollars. Actually for free. Here's how: Find a little kid riding a 'NASH' board. Hit him in the head with a very heavy object, knocking him out. Then steal his board and swap bearings. Simple as that!

anyone tried the 608z bearings from www.lushlongboards.com in the uk? they sell for 5 pounds a set and I was wondering whether it was worth just getting a couple of sets on some cheap wheels so I can ride in the rain?

Rattling spacers, worn out bearings.

Leo, It sounds to me like you were using spacers that were too small for the wheels, which over time, caused the bearings to wear out. It's just like if you used the wheels without any spacers at all. If you're using any of the Power Paws, you need 11mm spacers. Turbos, Cherrybombs and M80s all need 12mm spacers. Most other wheels use 10mm, except (gasp) Spitfire, which required 9mm spacers and now supposedly require spacers that are even smaller than that.

hiya james, got my pic?...... i use spacers and speed washers, but a few days ago i started to hear a annoying sound coming from my spacers, i dismounted and i relaized that 2 or 3 have this little movement side to side..know what i mean, and when i take them with my fingers and make them roll i hear a sound not very pleasant..first all sound different and sound like if they were rusted or lack of lub.........i always luricate my bearings like once a week, take the dirt and the old lub out and then soak them in a special oil a made mixing some lubrications.

i bought a set of lucky black beauties (abec 5) packaged in the film canister style package and they naturally didn't have spacers. Personally, I would get some Bones Reds for sliding, since they are cheap, good quality and come with 10mm spacers. Jet Labels is right, though. brand really doesn't make a difference for sliding, spacers do.

Hey James, 27 minutes? Do I need to get a stop watch with the paint thinner? Seriously Leo if you're sliding a lot making sure you have bearing spacers is more important than what brand, the sideloads placed on the bearing when sliding are something it was never designed for and it wears on the bearing races pretty harshly. I don't know if Luckies come with bearing spacers or not, but many companies (Bones) do.

the best way to clean bearings is to wope off the visible dirt and grime, then soak them in paint thinner for about 27 min., after wipe them down and let them sit to dry, when thats done lube them with a few drops of 3 in 1 oil. u can get 3 in 1 oil in a local hardware store.

These bearings arn't the greatest in the world I broke 3 in 6 hours of skate, but the rest of them proformed fine. I have only blown one bearing. The only other problem I have had was that the clip that holds the shelds on come off occasionly. I would give them a 3 or a 3.5 on a 5 piont scale.

Although hot water is used to clean several types of metal objects... black powder barrels, pots and pans... I would suggest against using it for bearings.
Water is not a good grease cutter... there are far better products on the market.
As far as gasoline goes... don't do it. Far too flamable to be safe to use as a degreaser under any normal circumstance.
Check the archives for lots of great talk on cleaning and lubing your bearings... HR

we're talking about a 1/4 inch here, way to much for a stack of speedrings and even regular washers would make for more easily bent axles.I keep a 5/16x24 die at my skateshop and cut a few more threads, actually if there's a 1/4 inch play 6 threads would do it.

Before, with thier 9mm spacer, I was doubtful I would ever buy Spitfires. Now I'm sure I never will. Bones wheels and bearings follow traditional standards, go together and are readily available. Why even bother with Sh*tfires?
