The bearings should come right out,its easy to just use the end of your trucks axle to pry the bearing out. It should come out easy. You don't even have to buy a Fix Stik skate tool even though the bearing tool on that particular tool makes it easier to push bearings in without damaging the sheilds.By all means don't buy anything.

As my name states, I am a newbie boarder, any help would greatly be appriciated.
I live right in the center of Downtown (Somewhere) and the roads & sidewalks here are filthy as hell. As a result my bearings get literally caked with this dust, sand, and grime, most likely because the lube in the bearings collect it all.
Any suggestions to keeping these bearings slick and keep the "grime collecting" factor down.
Also, these 9 Ball Wheels (65mm/78a) from sector 9 are really confusing me. Can the bearings come out of the wheel? they look to be molded in or something. I want to deep clean the bearings, but I don't want to ruin the wheels.
Again, I'm new...go easy on me.

brian: i don't know if the cold will matter, but i'm sure anything you do will be stupid, dumb and stupid. use some of that stuff that turned my fingers yellow. but wear gloves. you only need like a teaspoon of it

does anyone know if it is o.k. to used canned air to clean out bearings? when you spray it on your finger, it's really cold, so i didn't want to damage the bearings. also, the rubber sheilds on the insides of bearings (not the kind with integrated spacers) useing the bearings without them in doesn't hurt right? any help welcome.

Both really fast, faster than the new contact seal swiss,none of my sheilds have fallen off yet,and they spin like crazy as soon as you put them in.I should try the old Swiss that I fully disassembled and thouroughly cleaned and relubed with triflo, and see how that worked out ,they seem smooth.

don't believe ceramic bearings are the things which make you be faster,
as my friend D.T said , Gary Hardwick didn't have any for his speed record !
So just buy good bearings and try to feel and be better on your board!
For info: i don't use that kind of bearings they don't last
enough and this season i think i was as fast as the other riders with the same abec 5
bearings (made in china)they don't cost me a lot and were good enough to race !!!
And for those who don't know Gary Hardwick, believe me he is one of the best downhill
riders i know on this planet !

I use caberator/fuel injector cleaner on my bearings and it works great, is easy to use, easy to find(any 7-11,grocery store, or auto parts store), and cheap. I cut out the bottom of an apple juice container, it makes a great disposable bowl. and Tri flow for lube, it works great and lasts long.
**side note ** on the cleaner you might want to use in a ventilated area, unless you enjoy getting light headed**

Go to Giant and get yourself some of that lighter fluid in the yellow squeze bottles. It is a superior lub. if your looking for the quickest run down a hill. But it only lastes for one or two runs down the hill because it breaks down extremely quick because it is so thin.

Damn! Nobody tried the fafnirs yet? They make the most super high precision bearings in most types and quite frankly don't give two shits about skateboarding and the advertising political crap. They make a 608 size that ranks above the rest.Find em and see for yourself!

I like to use personal lubricants on by bearings. Astroglide and Liquid Silk are my favorites, but you can use KY Jelly if you don't have any decent adult bookstores in your area.

Don't listen to those guys who boil their bearings in water! The racer's trick is to *steam* the bearings in pure distilled water with three spoonfuls of honey added to the water. Sure, you lose a little speed from the gunk the honey leaves behind, but you make it up with the added urgency your riding takes on when you're being chased by thousands of bees...

if your going to boil your bearings in water, than you might as well boil them in mouthwash.
You'll go faster than SWISS bones, they'll smell good, and they'll greatly decrease the chances of nasty plac build up.

I will have to agree with Herbn, why is everyone in such a big rush to jump on the boiling bearings band wagon. and whats the deal with the sudden need to have ceramix. YES they are faster and YES they cost you an arm and a leg, but they DON T last that long. Your only going to use them for a handful of races. and theyre incredibly expensive to boot. Your best bet for streetskating is swiss bones or ninjas non-ceramix they re more than likely to be faster than anyone else your skating with. unless of course you skate with racer joe.
side note: Gary Hardwick set the offical speed record at 62.559mph with Swiss Bones and 70mm wheels....not ceramix or 82mm wheels

Boil eggs not bearings, why is everybody so anxious to boil their bearings, if I want to clean bearings I just put some marvel mystery oil in them, it loosens stuck bearings right up, then it spins out pretty quick at highspeed taking grim with it, then wipe off the bearings and add a drop or two of triflon.Compressed air gun cleans out the marvel mystery gunk right away but I realize not everyone has access to compressed air.

I’ve had mixed success with generic 608s. Some, like NMB’s are great, while other no-name bearings have been disappointing. I like to carve at moderate speeds, so I don’t push the limits on my bearings, but I can feel a big difference in acceleration out of turns with the crummy no name bearings. However, I've had good success with most of the inexpensive skateboard bearings, particularly the Bones China Reds, which run about $16 per set. For riders that are pushing the limits, you’ll probably need to spend some bucks to get the best, but for cruisers like me, the good news is there’re lots of good moderately priced choices.
