Chris - The Carmel course is set. It starts at the flyout just east of Screaming Eagle off of Eagle Rock. It goes for about 3/4 of a mile and ends up past the bridge and around the second corner (past the barbed wire wall).
It would be fun to run. Just bring yer softies.....

The Marshal did mention an alternate course at Carmel ditch. Is it already set? Could we use it Monday? Or should we just give up?
What if we took the monthly RBBS series, and made it a rotating site thing? We could hit Rio Rancho one month, then La Cueva the next followed by that big pink one with the rain grooves, and so on. You know, a different ditch each month. That could be really fun.
Just a thought.
K-Lee, have you ever skated that ditch the runs sort of parallel to Rio Bravo, but maybe 1/4 mile South?

What about Harper or 3-mile? Being God's land of ditches there must be alternate locations. Just pick one.

I have to officially cancel the Rio Bravo Banked Slalom race that had been planned for Monday, May 30th (Memorial Day). I went out there yesterday to do a spot sweeping and get the course clear for next Monday, and I noticed that they've been doing landscaping between the ditch and the bike path that runs next to it. In the process they kicked tons of dirt and gravel into the ditch, all the way to the first bridge. Unless someone wants to get out there and do some serious shoveling, there won't be any racing next Monday. And we'll have to wait until they finish the landscaping job (it only looked half done) and then wait for a big rain (monsoon season?) before we can race there again. I apologize to anyone that was planning on racing there next Monday. We'll just have to skate Indian School all day instead. Boo Hoo.

• After the heat, the racers will continue down the ditch to the pre-arranged meeting spot, Chalakees Ramp, about 300 yards down the ditch. • Do not come back and bug my timers for your split. • Do not come back up the ditch and congregate at the finish line. This is unsafe, distracting for the spotters/timers and can draw unneeded attention to our event.
Guidelines; Keep it chill. This is a fun event. We want everyone to have a good time, but only a few people will walk away with the coin. You will win or lose this race on your stick in the ditch, not arguing about it in the parking lot. Everyone racing in this event has been riding for 15 years or more; I think we all know what is expected in a race like this.
The race needs to stay on time! I cannot stress this enough. If the winds come up (which they usually do about 11:00) the times will increase dramatically. Just ask anyone who raced at the Harper ditch contest. We need to get as many runs in as possible before the winds come up. If we get a downhill wind prepare to be scared.
Please be cool with the locals. This ditch runs right next to a major fitness trail and through the backyards of lots of twitchy people. Let’s not give anyone any reason to get concerned. As far as they are concerned it is just another day of skateboarders running the ditch, they are used to that. They do not need to know that this is a world-class event featuring some of the fastest racers on the planet.
The alternate race site is Carmel Ditch. It is fun and fast but has a “broom” finish. It is rough. Bring a set of tall (70mm+) soft wheels (85a max) just in case we get busted at Indian School. Carmel Ditch was featured in Concrete Wave contents page in volume 3.
Practice footbraking! Do not attempt to run out of a “situation”. This ditch is deceptively fast, you pick up speed faster than you realize. Most “runouts” end up like this - you get about a step and a half before you are “supermanning” towards some bushes or an asphalt trail. Carve hard, Slide or Footbrake.
Drink water. Wear sunscreen.
No racer support vehicles will be allowed at the top of the ditch. Get your stick dialed in before the riders meeting; either on the day before or before the 8:00 AM riders meeting. I’m not kidding.
Get your warm up runs done before the riders meeting. The course will be set with cones at 7:00 on raceday.
Full pads are recommended. “Bear Paws” are very effective in this ditch. Contact Joe Lehm at Timeshipracing.com for the hookup.
Jeff Chalakee has graciously offered his backyard as a staging area and place to chill between heats. It is where the U-Haul will pick you up for your second heat. It is right on the Indian School ditch. It also has a nice vert ramp. Bring your ramp board along for a little post-race ramp action. Beer/Drinks and food will be provided at Chalakees for the post-race party, please be prepared to throw down for the cause (cash, product, skatelite/RampX all work). Support your local scene or it may go away! Jeff is a great host, recognize that!
Contact PALMER 505-440-2253, Or George 505-379-0702 if you have any questions. If not – See you on race day!!!!

On the morning of the race (28 May) all racers will meet in the back parking lot of St Bernadette’s Church, at the corner of Indian School Rd and Martha at 8:00 AM. Martha is between Juan Tabo Blvd and Eubank Blvd. Juan Tabo and Eubank run north/south. Indian School rd is North of I-40, North of Lomas (where the skatepark is) and South of Menaul.
The course will be set by 7:00 the morning of the race, feel free to run it but please do not knock any cones off their mark. If you come in prior to the race and want to do some practice runs the course will be marked by Thursday 26 May, use the red dots.
We will have a SHORT riders meeting. We will hand out number, rules and schwag packs. Those who have not paid will hand us some cash. I strongly suggest that you pay in advance (Timeship racing paypal link off the NCDSA contest calendar). We will not register more than 50 racers. It is first paid, first served.
After the riders meeting all the racers will climb into a big U-haul and shuttle to the top of the ditch for the start of the race. No cars or support vehicles will be allowed at the top of the ditch. Cars attract the kind of attention that we do not need (open space rangers). Please – no spectators at the top of the ditch, there are much better viewing spots on the mile+ course. All racers will exit the U-haul and head down under the bridge and wait for their number to be called.
Racers will need to be ready to run when called. We are running on one-minute intervals. You will have one minute to get into position. If you miss your slot you will be disqualified for that heat.
After the first heat we will meet in the parking lot of St Bernadette’s to start the process all over again. We will run two heats. After the second heat we will enjoy beers, burgers and a sweet ramp in the backyard of Jeff Chalakee (at the intersection of the ditch and Martha, look to the right, you’ll see it). There will be a one hour break from the time the last racer crosses the finishing line and the start of the second heat. This can be modified at the discretion of the race organizers.
The winner of the race will be the fastest single run.
We will hand out the cash and prizes at the Ramp. Bring your vert board if you think you’ll have any legs left.
Rules; • Pay your $50 entry fee (nobody will race without paying first) No exceptions. Have your money ready at the riders meeting if you have not pre-paid. Exact change is not hard to do, (throw me a frickin’ bone here). • Wear a helmet (any helmet will do, but we strongly suggest that is a good one) • Numbers will be handed out in random order after the riders meeting. • Numbers are to be posted on your helmet only. • Starting gate is at the railing on the south side of the bridge at top of the ditch. A “boneless” or “footplant” entry from the top railing is permitted if you really think that it will help your time. We will make sure we film it and laugh as you fall. • Push all you want down entry ramp and the course. Let us know where you are going to push so we can film it too. • Racers will start on 1 minute intervals. • Racers will be staged underneath the bridge. • Racers will be started by the starters signal. • The penalty for missing a cone is disqualification for that race. The coneheads will make that call, they will not be challenged. • Racers are allowed to hit a cone, but if the cone is moved off its’ original spot the racer is disqualified. The coneheads will make that call, they will not be challenged. This is to provide motivation to keep the course clean and free of resets. Do not Criddle my course; we do not have the time or manpower to clean up after every run. • Skate equipment failure (e.g. kingpin break or board snap) or malfunction will not be cause for a restart or re-run of a racers heat. I highly recommend that all Randall riders upgrade to grade 8 kingpins (about $3 at Home Depot); it’s cheap and easy insurance. • If a racer goes down in front of you continue to run your race. It is highly unlikely that that racer will be blocking your line. Our spotters will take care of the racer if they need medical attention. The spotter will make the call if your line was blocked or not. • We will try to get the ditch as debris-free as possible, but it is a long, open ditch. There will be s#@! in it. There may be water in spots. Deal with it. Sliding out on gravel, water or broken glass will not be grounds for a restart. • The cones are set up to keep you our of harms way. Stay on the course and you won’t hit any holes or ladders. If you stray from the course and you may end up in the hospital like Science Fair or Biker or John West or any other head who has been served at this ditch! • The finishing time will be captured as the front truck of the racer breaks the black spray-painted line between the ladders in the lower section of the ditch.

Racers and Ditch Whores;
The Indian School race is limited to 50 racers.
It is an outlaw race and we need to keep on schedule and be out of the ditch as fast as we can.
We cannot waste our time on things that could have been done prior to race day.
Like paying your entry fee.
Pay your entry fee now to ensure that you get one of the 50 racing slots.
Hopping on a plane and showing up on Saturday without a paid entry slot is riskier than running the The Bear at night.
The paypal link is on the contest calendar.
If you don't have paypal work something out with G.I. Joe at Timeship Racing.
See you on Raceday.

I would just like to remind everyone that there will indeed be a third outlaw banked slalom race held on Monday the 30th, Memorial Day. It is open to locals as usual and especially anyone left over from the weekend if they haven't left for home yet. The course is set in a smaller ditch (Rio Bravo) so it is more technical to make up for the lack of scare-factor, but it is still fast don't worry. Entry fee is $5. There will be a straightforward tight banked slalom course setup (bring a real slalom board or a very carvy longboard if you want to be competitive) and then more of a hybrid course that is more forgiving to bigger boards.
Oh, and, Stubbs, I get off at 4:30 on Friday. Maybe I'll be able to hook up with you guys for a sunset session or something.
