I was up at Indian School this weekend. It is cleaner than I have ever seen it. No tumbleweeds, no dirt, no anything. Just clean, fast concrete.

Cabbage - three cones on one wall is one more than 2 cones on one wall and one less than 4 cones on one wall. Purty simple in my book.

Indian School will have at least as much prize money as last year. It all depends on how many hookers EG and Budro encounter on the way out.
We're trying to pay down to tenth place.

....I'm just bustin' balls, Joe. All you needed to say was that Dregs was throwing down green. And all of us Texans are lining up for that one and we are already scheming about the Chinese downhill. We're thinking about running in a pack sort of roller derby style, taking suckas out! Of course we'll have lot's of jacks, tacks and other assorted party favors for the other competitors to enjoy. he,he,he,he......
See ya soon........

The Marshall turned into the landscaper today out at the ditch. I trimmed back all the bushes that encroached on the cones and start ramp. The course is marked. The rains have scrubbed the ditch squeaky clean. Tomorrow I'll re-mark the Qualifier ditch.
It's on - boyz and girlz.
See ya'll in 2 weeks!

In 2002 TimeShip invited Biker to come out to ride the ditches with us and to see if Sandia was worthy of being a Gravity Games qualifier.....and it was added. As far as I know Biker was the first person to ride Sandia from the Top of the CREST. When he and the Dregs Tream returned for that race later that Summer, we headed out to Indian School the day before for some runs. After a few runs, he asked me why don't we hold a race in the ditch? A banked slalom I asked. No, a Chinese Ditch Race. No cones, no timer, no heats, just everybody go at once. I thought, you ARE crazy!
Next run he hit an inflow hole at full speed, and broke his collarbone in 6 places, cracked his helmet and weas kinocked OUT lying in the bottom the ditch twitching. Major concussion. He didn't get to race the DH, or the Bear and hasn't been back since. Last year Dregs threw down $2000 prize money for the Bear and Biker promised me he would return to Abq. this year if I'd throw a race on a different weekend than our traditional Memorial Day Race (too many conflicting truck races that weekend).
TimeShip Racing is always trying to out do the other promoters, so I thought it would be a good time to introduce another first, but really, it was Bikers idea, and Dregs' prize money!! Stubbs, we better see you lining up for this one!

You're welcome.
@TSR - Joe? Has Dregs purchased TSR or has TSR purchased Dregs? Or are you just a corporate skateboard whore? Does a good physician validate parking?
The answer to these and other super tough questions on the 29th. My palms are sweating already.

Ian, there is no other place on earth that has the terrain that awaits in ABQ. You should do some tangible research and skate there. There are no pictures, videos or words that can accurately describe it. There is nothing that can be said that can fully prepare you for what is there. NOTHING.
With all that said....
1. Yes. 2. Yes, the terrain is awe inspring. 3. Yes, I.S. is the Pipeline wave of skateboarding. 4. If you go to ABQ and ditches are not the main draw, you are not taking advantage of terrain that is unique ONLY TO ABQ. and are a complete moron. Yes, there are pools, parks, ramps, etc. and I skate those, too, but the FOCUS is ditches. 5. The ditches in ABQ can kill you a lot easier than most places you will skateboard. I'll leave it at that. 6. Like Cabbage said, the only thing that sucks about Indian School is if wiping out. I learned my very first run ever there.

These quotes from Albuquerque skaters were gathered while I was seeking information about the ditches and the 'sense of place' there. I would like to gather feedback regarding these perceptions from other skaters who have experienced these places. Is there agreement? Disagreement? Other descriptions that skaters would like to leave to clarify sense of place in concrete arroyos? You can respond on this groups’ page or at idaitz@unm.edu
1) “I think that Albuquerque’s ‘hidden gems’ make it the skating capital of the world undisputed, hands down”!
2) “Even though you have open sky above you. There is this subterranean sense You are removed from the street, the houses, and the city. You are underground. Ditch trashiness is a turnoff to some but not to a ditch person. The forbidden sense adds an exciting element---the mind of someone in a ditch begins to question why is this here? Who designed and built it and when? Why this shape? There is this feeling of AWE that they exist”.
3) … “After climbing to the top of Indian School Ditch you see the ditch rolling out before you. It almost feels like a sacred space. If ditch riding was a religion, the top of Indian School Ditch is a chapel. It’s a place to contemplate and go into yourself”.
4) “So the ditches are the most unique thing about this area skateboarding wise but are they the main draw? Probably not” 5) ‘The ditches require the sum total of everything a skateboarder has learned’. 6) ‘You can’t say and the bottom of Indian School Ditch that life sucks’.
respond to quotes by number, thanks, Ian

Kick some Ditches, Slap some ollies

Kicktails are SO last century! They do however have a place in the modern era of Racing, but not for Ollies. I don't think that will quite get you over the obstacles that await you in the Chinese Ditch Race.
You're going to need huge No-Complys for the couches and urban crap, and a small broom or brush guard mounted on the nose for desert debris. The Start options at Harper may require a kicktail or early grab entry.
Miller, TSR will allow you to strap an inner tube around your deck to help you with clearance issues. Up, Up, and AWAY!!!

Kick tails at Ditch Slap

Here's a little quiver tip. For the first time ever, TSR is suggesting that you MAY want to have a kicktail for some of the ditch races. That should bring your quiver to around 4 or 5 boards.
Palmer, you better race the Bear Cross with us!
