No idea of the name of the stream, grew up with it in my backyard and never heard anyone call it by name. I've heard people say the likes of bucky lasek and mike vallely have skated there. It's apparently been a popular spot since it was built in the 70's.

What is the name of the stream and what does "being naturalized" mean? Sounds like they need to at least build a skatepark ditch to replace it. I'm calling the lawyers right now.

Kona should be a fun event, regardless of competition! Just wish the place was MUCH larger. Peace.

apparently the pot spring ditch may be jackhammered this fall. I know the concrete stream that the dtich floods to is being naturalized and it wouldn't surprise me if they take the ditch with it. It'd be a shame if thats what happens.

Arbutus Ditch Directions

I know how to get there but I had to pull out a flyer from a contest we held there in 1983 (24 years ago) to remind myself of the road names. Personally, I have not been to the Arbutus ditch in about 7+ years but I did drive by it last year and it looked skateable.
Here is how to get there:
95 North past 695 (like your are going to Baltimore) Exit on to S. Caton Ave (going north toward Rt. 1) Left on Benson Ave. (first light after getting on S. Caton, I think) Left on Knecht Ave. Right on John Ave. Take second left into industrial park offices Go right and follow the parking lot Dead End in the parking lot (there is a small pond on your right) Arbutus Ditch is in front of you next to the on ramp to 695 (look for the painted ditch sections)
Who knows what the condition of the ditch is now so bring shovels, push brooms, shears, etc. to clean it up. Back in the day, we skated that bad boy all day and all night. The thing was lighted by the 695 lights. Cool scene. Not sure about it today but when I skated it 7 years ago, it felt tight but I'm an old skateboarder now.
Post up an update if you hit the Arbutus Ditch.
I also have the line on the old Riverdale, MD ditch if you are into it. It is behind 51st Ave next to East-West Hwy. If you have google map you can zoom in on it but it looks like it might need a good cleaning as well.

I know this ditch isn't "hardcore" or anything, but I found a nice little drainage ditch in Welfleet MA. It was perfect for stalls and airs and s#@!. I wish there were more of those style ditches; almost like mini bowls. Any one from MASS know of any other ditches/ bowls?

Ditch Slap was abolutely insane Joe! That day with tail winds down Indian School and JimZ going two loops around the Witches Nose was very memorable. The push Ditch race was nutty with all the pile up stories Budro, Biker, Langer, everyone was telling. That was one of the gnarliest races because of the fact no one knew where they were going and there was a pile up at every turn. Next year it will be different because everyone is aware of the turn, unless Joe happens to change the course up like he always does, hahaha. Sweeping out the Bear just to hit three walls at speed was killer, my favorite day! When I go back to NM, I am going to hopefully get to ride the Bear from the drop-in to the end of it. All those other smaller ditches were amazing, the shuttle system worked out great for the amount of riders you had. Next time I want to race Will down Sandia and Time Trials road. thanx for everything Will and Joe! I will be back for Ditch Slap 2008!

As with any ship, TimeShips crew all pulled together to make this a memorable event for everyone! Stubbs buffering for the timer was impressive, and Big Ryan Smith staring down Mollica and Mitchell to move along. Special thanks to everyone who helped 'Crew' this event: K-Lee, Steve Chrisman, Blake Learnmoth, Ryan Smith, Greg Stubbs, Rob McKendry, Jimmy Flindt, Collin Green, Brett Dooley and David Price.
