just saying what i've heard living in the neighborhood. In the plans also they plan on placing large rocks in the already natural part of the stream. Talk about a great ecological project. No one can explain county goverment actions. I would be willing to fence it and make it a park just to keep the place alive. I don't really skate alot anywhere else but I skate a ton down there and will never forget the hours logged there hopefully i'll get plenty more in.

pot spring ditch
On 7/24/2007 pville banks wrote in from United States  (69.85.nnn.nnn)

I thought the pot spring ditch was no longer part of balt. co. drainage system. the unskateable (naturalized?) ditch 50 yards or so further down pot spring has water continuously running through it. I always thought that it handled the main run off from the surrounding neighborhoods and the skate ditch really only came into use during heavy heavy rains. I have never, in all my years, seen a work crew get into it, seen any county repairs made to it, or noticed a large build up of debris and sticks from serious waterflow. I'd hate to see baltimore's only real ditch get jackhammered in an effort to naturalize an already naturalized area.

your 78 ditch fight..
On 7/19/2007 mr.surly wrote in from United States  (129.33.nnn.nnn)

We fought the same stuff here with a local ditch. It's 1 of 3 ditches I know of in this state [NC] to ride. Anyway, we were not on anyone's property, and showed no disregard for our environ. Cops still got called.
We set up a meeting with a couple of the flustered locals and spoke to them about what we were doing there, the fact that we cleaned trash off the roadside when we were there, no spray paint, no drugs, no BS, just skateboarding.
We now have our access and the neighbors know that the place is being skated by responsible people that actually give a crap. Basically, we knocked on doors and asked if they would like to talk about the local skateboarding issue and if there could be a middle-ground. We told them about our helping local kids in the community, and you should have seen the reaction when we told them what we all do for a living!(engineer, public school teacher, social worker)
Nyway, maybe, just maybe, there is a middle-ground that you can reach with these people. One thing that we suggested [and didn't have to do] was that we would put up a wooden fence, or plant bamboo along the ditch to "clean up the view".
Good luck, I hope you don't lose your spot forever.

Oh man thats a bummer Diggler. We used to session that place in the late 80's all the time. Great memories. Got some old pics of it up on the other longboard site.
I would place a letter in their mailbox saying that you will see them in court if the cops get involved again.

78 DITCH
On 7/16/2007 DITCH DIGGLER wrote in from United States  (192.94.nnn.nnn)

78 Ditch is unfortunately now a bust thanks to some atrocious residents. The ditch isnt on anyones property (hundreds of feet). You don't have to walk on anyones property to get to it, if you do it right. Unfortunately from putting up houses everywhere they've taken down too many trees. They can't see the ditch exactly but now if you're a skater in the ditch they can see you standing and maybe softly hear you riding in the distance which is apparently an unsightly inconvenience for the homeowners in a state where they need the bankroll the size of a king to demand only a paltry kingdom in size (which I feel bad for them of course, but if it's not your property, geez you ain't a part of manifest destiny, I feel like a native american here, you legally can't own what's not yours or kick someone off public land because you own something next to it- I wish I could apply such situations to my own home for my own annoyances but I don't live in a kingdom like this and have no imaginary ass kissing rights provided to me by the local authority). An officer escorted me from the ditch at the request of some ironically wealthy LOW LIFES with nothing better to do than rain on a parade that has literally 30 years of history for residents of the area LONG TIME RESIDENTS of the area who work in the area and grew up riding that spot because it was in the middle of the woods! -when the locals grew up and became established citizens they come there, to ride a familiar spot like when they were kids in the middle of nowhere on public land, so as not to get harrassed or break any law or trespass like is so customary to street spot hunting skateboarders. When told this, the officer stated we were technically right and they were obviously wrong and overstepping their bounds by a big leap, but he still had to make a show to escort us away because the perpetrators who made the claim that we were in the wrong for being there thought that we MIGHT have WALKED on their property in order to get there- which we quickly showed the officer our route on exit and he found it wasn't true. This is when he basically broke it to us that we had the legal right to keep coming and could even go back once he left, but that they were heavy taxpayers stressing their concern for what wasn't theirs but was unconveniently next to theirs so they could make the claim at any time that we "Might Have" crossed on their property, and the next officer they call in might not be as understanding as him. And most will know that legality is always subject to interpretation in terms of social status or skin color, which holding a skateboard, having a darker complexion, being young, or basically looking slightly impoverished or unimportant to the social ladder pretty much leaves you as an open target for whatever book they want to throw at you. If I had the money to go down fighting I most certainly would! f#@! those residents, I can't fathom how assinine this situaton is. If it was elderly couples and war veterans moving in the area I could understand their hesitance for welcome and sensitivity towards skateboarders by calling cops, but this is bulls#@!. If it WAS our elderly the cops probably wouldn't bother helping so much either because of that social ladder which would probably disregard their voice too. These are younger to middle age homeowners whose wealth and importance to the community is from outside sources, and FICKLE at best, but they are still building more houses and there is hundreds of millions $ in real estate to make. That place was getting shredded by locals when these homeowners were in daipers singing to HR PUFNSTUF on tv, from god only knows where they came from-now theyre all grown up and think they can claim to own the f#@!ing world cause that silver spoons never drifted from their mouths, it's just an indirect power flex that really means nothing to them. And a whole lot to the veteran locals. 78 R.I.P.

After making the podium at the Bear a while back, I think Kelly Lynn has dual citizenship in FL/NM. And, if you notice, the recent Kona podium is the exact reverse of that Bear podium. Interesting.....

Kona
On 6/29/2007 speedo wrote in from United States  (71.55.nnn.nnn)

I need to re-word something here. Kona as a park, is quite sizeable. What I should have said...was that the snake run portion could be made extremely sunstantial, if the bottom areas were expanded some. As it is now, it is still doable, as most know. Even a modification would help it some. Peace.
