Blue Suede Shoes
On 1/18/2003 Michael Dong wrote in from (209.245.nnn.nnn)

Mike,

What kind of shoes do you wear when racing? What other types have you tried and what do you think of them? Do you find you have more feel with thinner soled shoes or does it matter?

Thanks,

Michael

pushing mongo
On 1/18/2003 Burns wrote in from (172.139.nnn.nnn)

Mike,

Any advice or strategy you have for pushing out of the start box?
I'm working on pushing mongo into goofy (I skate goofy) as I think it might
improve my time through the first cones. Likewise I'm practicing
pushing switch. Do you use different push for different situations?

Thanks,

Burns

I love coffe and drink it every day. Do you? If you do, does it make your ass sweat? I get really nervous before races any way, and I was wondering if you thought cutting down on the coffee would help. A sweaty ass is ....well, ASS.

maysey don't waste your time on me!
On 1/17/2003 Mike Maysey wrote in from (66.236.nnn.nnn)

John, alright but don't you want to take out that loud mouth??? hehehe
No pressure huh, I'll do my best next season, but there's a lot of new talent coming up from Open and there's bound to be some emergences from within the Pro class as well. You've got how much money on me? I hope you have a solid savings!!

I like the current lot even though some of them don't have enough room on them. Sometimes using the edges of your board helps more than the top.

it would be fun to just skate with eric "arab" groff
let alone even have a chance at beating him!
he is a legend!

mike, there is no hope for my old self. answering an odd
question is more than I deserve.

please spend your energy on winning this year and
help out somebody that you think has a chance of beating
you since that is what PD really did when he took you
under his wing! no pressure, but I have a few thousand $
on you to win the whole thing.

regarding vans:
on tuesday a chick was grinding the midi pipe and giving
me tips on my 50-50's.
(coincidentally, an entirely different and equally talented
girl was in the pool!) she told me she had been skating
for 5 months. holy cow. ego deflation anybody?
a few tips and I think she would
be the one beating arab. turner should find her (she is
from truckee) and sponsor her. maybe there is a goldmine
of snowboarder chicks ready to dominate slalom out there?

one more question and it's related to the question about
redrilling your deck: do you wish your decks had more deck
area over the bolt regions or do you like the current crop
of designs? is there enough room for your feet on them?

It's only worth a measly hundred bucks to you? Where's your gambling spirit? If I don't speak highly of myself, who will? You can understand this line of thinking right?

So, you're gonna make it to Deathbox late huh? Excuses, excuses...

Hey, are you working the rest of the weekend of the Deathbox race? I'm going to stay down there for the weekend and would love to get together with you and the rest of the SSS crew and run some cones or head to Revere or skate a pool or something...sound like a plan?

Mike- Glad to see you speak so highly of yourself, your starting to sound like Chris Chaput, As for your new protege I have a 100 dollar bill on every race that he and I race against each other, since most likely he will be racing in the AM div, and I will be in the PRO div with you, "Mike Maysey Slalom Pro" I guess we can just use our qualifying times as our race times, FCR doesnt let individual races or grudge matches happen, Heck if they did I would be RICH!

why do you want a longer wheelbase?
On 1/17/2003 Mike Maysey wrote in from (66.236.nnn.nnn)

Hey John,
Longer wheelbase usually means greater ability to carry speed and greater stability at speed. The courses that FCR set were, for the most part, OPEN and required boards that were longer and carried speed well. You are right in your thinking, as far as I'm concerned, short wheel base for tight, long wheelbase for everything else. But Brent Kosick beat me in the La Costa GS on a very short wheelbase Fullnose, so who knows. As a rule though, long wheelbase works best for open courses, while short wheelbase works best for tighter. Also, John try to make it out to Golden Gate Park sometime. I plan to start hitting that spot and some others that I've found in the city...mostly in the Presidio, but all decent spots to progress. Call me or email me when you might be up this way. I also plan to do some more VANS sessions in Milpitas...lets skate the pool!

Arab, thanks for the help on this one. You're a pal. Yes John slaloms, as a matter of fact, I'm taking him under my wing to specifically target YOU next season...so you better watch it! After what PD did for me, wait till you see what I do with John!

wheelbase
On 1/17/2003 Arab wrote in from (24.24.nnn.nnn)

Mike you have been overloaded, let me help mr airey, John-different wheelbases for different courses and hills, Longer for GS shorter for TS. Its a pretty simple formula.

Do you slalom?, Where do you live?, I have friends all over the world that slalom and I would be glad to hook you up with any of them to help you learn, you can get ten fold more info from just running cones with some guys that slalom on a regular basis then you will from a website, Not to say you wont get anything here, because I just gave you some very helpful info, But actually getting out and riding with others is the best experiance you can have. email me and I'll hook you up.
