Yep, the Globe people are ...er....'talent spotting' Saturday eve at Epic.
That will encourage a few more to race!
Hopefully they will have the hand pulls back up on the slalom ramp. I have to say Epic are the easiest, most
accomodating people to deal with. We need one in Laaaandannn.

Gavin...........you've sussed me out!

I was going to go to Epic in disguise as a fat little kid, in a vain attempt to get the tickets to ride with the Globe team in Australia....My plan was to fall just as i was going for a huge kickflip revert ballsup type thing...and get the sympthy vote....Damn another plan in the gutter.

Ian I'm going to Epic want a lift? How about you Sam.
Just post here.

epic 6/12... the truth!
On 12/2/2003 gavin wrote in from (195.194.nnn.nnn)

so now i know why you are all going to epic on the 6th, and its absolutley nothing to do with slalom!

i saw the trailer on extreme last night, and the globe search for street skaters to 'skate with the pros'. seems that at 6pm on the 6th the extreme talent scouts are at epic looking for skaters to take to the world cup in melbourne and to skate with the Globe team.

personally i think you should all make it your mission to harass the assembled kickflip brigade with innane questions like.. 'can you ollie?' and 'what tricks can you do?'.

Top shot David O! I presume once again this year you'll be offering your typical slalom race kit as a stocking filler? Well, one slab of MDF and a junior hacksaw this way please! ...I can't seem to get the Christmas tree in the holder, reckon as it might need a bit of whittling.

Anyway, my new deck doesn't need a coating of platinum. That'd give unnecessary low CG weight that could be better spent on high CG ales for greater downforce leverage. (By the way, it's a teflon-based, Ti leaf-spring carbon sandwich, with buttery smooth yet piquant raspbery aftertaste).

And whilst we're on the subject, S-Cambers have only recently been proven to benefit riders with one foot half a size longer than the other.

Oh, and for Christmas' sake, do find it in yourself to forget Greuningen last year. We all know that the timing didn't truly reflect the real skills and technique of those involved.

To all you ageing skate punks. I firmly recommend the US Bombs 2003 LP Covert Action. It is worth it for the openning track Roll around. Which I am currently doing in my house while listening to it. Thats the benefit of wooden floors.

Cheers

S Cut
On 11/30/2003 David O wrote in from (195.93.nnn.nnn)

I was interested to see that Roe are doing S cuts and a quite a reasonable price. Is this because of the Italians recent performances.

Well Mike will there be one to try out at Brum next week. It could well be a hard decision on next years kit. I do not want to 'cheque book my way' to better performances next year but want to 'christmas beer weight' my way there.

On a serious note I intend to do a bit more travelling next year and am hoping to go to Morro as well (if I can convince the wife). Grunigen is agreed as is Paris. I am working on Morro bay, but will do Antibes if I can afford.

That just leaves the quiver. I have got a lot of catching up to do as I know you have all had a summer of Hyde Park and Brighton and susspect I may be in for a shock at Brum. I pressume Sam has changed his kit about twenty times over the summer and is probably riding a platinum coated rocket sled.

Look forward to Saturday.

PS the wife has bought me a pair of puma skinned Pro design pads but will not let me have them untill after xmas. Boo hoo.

Cones, Insurance etc
On 11/26/2003 Michael wrote in from (195.92.nnn.nnn)

Yep, I'll admit that I do notice when cones arnt right, perhaps more than most. But when I miss the cone and pull out, invariably the cone is found to be off its mark. In fact, every time the cone has been out.

Thats perhaps why I do check cones more than most because they put me off if they are wrong. I did the same at the Worlds, ie noticing when a cone had been nooooodged out by a fraction, and putting it back. At the Worlds they made a point of checking the cones on the final runs, which was good. I HATE cones being wrong, really puts me off, and I'm sure I'm not the only one it happens too.

As for insurance, I agree we should try to find some. Lets try.

insurance and MH on Friday
On 11/26/2003 gavin wrote in from (195.194.nnn.nnn)

try contacting similar organisations and see who they use, not only the biggies like the ACU but also the smaller ones like the British Surfing Association who operate at a grass roots level.

alternativly is there a UK body that promotes/looks after all sports, they may be able to help. i know that promotion of sport is a major government push right now. how about..

http://www.sportengland.org

finally, is this of use...

Mount Hawke on Friday

apparently a bunch of MOTHS are coming to MH on friday afternoon for a skate, good opportunity to take some time off work and have a skate with similar aged folk if you live down this way. Hopefully will be there myself.

Rules
Course correct rule
The main issue is that we only learn by suffering. Unfortunately Mike you seemed to be the only suffer last year, and you are one of the guys who does back track the course to reset cones (I think I am preaching to the converted). Another option I considered is that the racer prior picks up a penalty if they do not set the course. It is difficult but I do not wish to see panting skaters doing too many runs. It ia OK on a short course but it nearly killed everyone a Brands.
If there is a solution lett me know.

Insurance
If you are the organiser, whether as the association or the event organniser, or the skater involved, you can be sued for ANY action that an individual does not like. It is not thhe skaters I am worried about, we are generally friendly and do it at our own risk, but if you hit a child who is then blinded, crippled etc etc, then you will face a multi thousand pound bill, and legal fees. "This won't happen" I hear you say, but remember Daisy at Epic, a board hit her from the Death race quite badly. Luckily she was fine, but she did need to go to hospital.
It is not a "catch me if you can" If they have your name you are liable.

Anyone know any insurers? I have been considering whether travel insurance might be the way to go. 50 quid and you get World cover for the year. I am sure there are even cheaper than that for Europe or UK only. However an Extreme competition insurance will set you back over 500.

Only here to raise problems.

Chris

moving to London
On 11/25/2003 Mia wrote in from (66.131.nnn.nnn)

I'm moving to London in early January and well i don't know anyone....more importantly i dont know anyone to ride with! I know when i get there it will be winter but as soon as spring comes about i gotta get out and skate. I'm really into tight slalom aswell as downhill(any sliders out there?). I plan to bring two boards, a TS slalom board and a downhill, but if thats not possible then, well, only the slalom deck is coming with me. I'm going to be living in Chiswick(where ever that may be..is it west london?),i've never been to london before...or anywhere in europe for that matter. so if anyone wants someone to skate with or doesnt mind someone tagging along, then i'm your girl!
also, are any of you into riding ramps and that stuff? i really want to get into that and i see this winter as the perfect opertunity for me to learn. are there any indoor parks around where i'm going to be living? anyone want to be my teacher???
anyway i hope that someone writes me back...
post here or email me

thanks
-mia-
