Thank you for your kind response. Would Tracker,Indys or Seismic trucks be significantly lower than the Randals? I generally enjoy larger and softer wheels for cruising on pavement. I also like to run my trucks on the "looser" side. I am wondering if you have any suggestions for a 70+mm softer wheel? I am also wondering about the width of the truck/wheel combo(center-set vs end-set wheels). Which combo would allow for the lowest set up with loose trucks without wheel overhang? Thanks again, Sarah

sounds like a rather tall set up,you may need risers on the already tall randals, depends on how tight you run the trucks and if you're adept at grinding some more wheel clearence in, i can tolerate randals on a 40+ pintail type of board ,on shorter boards they seem to high.I might try some seismic 180's when they come out(are they out?) and stick with a 65mm wheel ,either a powell bomber or a set of no schools ,maybe in the low to high eightyish durometers.

I have heard good things about the Bulldog longboard.I too want to set up this deck for some cruising. Can I use some larger wheels 70mm Flashbacks on this guy? How do Randal 180s perform on this dog? Thanks!

A whole line of graphics that mimic the WWII Pinup girls (minus any actual war refrences) would be VERY cool...
If someone was talented and industrious, I think they could generate a little business by custom painting these or other themes for people. I'd send in a deck or two for some custom paint as long as it wasn't too expensive to have done... HR

Hey Ratty,
I didn't think much of the idea either before I got one, but the Hammerhead is smooth and carves on a radius you wouldn't believe. If the 'Skunk gets one, try it. Maybe evolution was wrong. . . .

Nah! Dogs Playing Poker graphic!
y'know... with a loaded deck? (slaps knee)
I think the loaded vanguard is freekin great. Its soo ugly its beautiful. When you look at it you know its all about function.
I also like how the board is so wide that I dont wear out my toe muscles trying to 'grip' the toe-edge like I do on narrow boards like my wife's fibreflex pintail.
I'm prolly buying a Fish as soon as they show up at the PurpleSkunk, if I like the ride. Dont know about that Hammerhead, tho. Looks more like a duckbill-platypus to me...you know...a critter without an evolutionary future?
what-the-fa do I know tho?

The term "Loaded" has a lot of connotations. . . I'd go with the Monopoly Money guy in the tux dropping 100 dollar bills. Or maybe that's too Republican. . :)

Simple. All you need to do to make a board look great is to paint on the bottom a bikini girl in a cowboy hat and boots with spurs riding a bomb or rocket that is chasing a cartoony Hitler. Done and done. I'll buy one.

What trucks and wheels are a good match for the bulldog longboard deck for street cruising and some park use? I have an extra set of Randal 180s and typically enjoy running larger(70mm+)size softer wheels. Will these trucks/wheels work on this deck? Thanks.

Just to chime iN....I love my loaded, if I was to change one thing only, it'd be a tad more width, but I do like the shape myself. & yes, a pintail with your layup would be nice as well, you could still keep the centerish section the way your aiming for for the ride quality, but a sleek tail maybe, or at least cut one out & send it to Hugh ;-) People seem to be buying them, so something must be right about them.... Have fun, Bozi

I think that a very mild camber along with a fairly generous concave would be ideal for me. Take a look at the S9 Concave Pintail... it has a pretty good shape to it. I'm not suggesting a copy, but something similar in shape would be cool.
I agree that the loaded is screaming to be in a pin!
I would suggest NOT thinking of it in the same terms as the boards your currently building... but rather, something very different. Make it thicker, but still out of the micro plys. Or possibly a layer of micro ply top and bottom, with a bamboo core. Maybe 1/4 inch thick top and bottom, with an 1/8 inch core.
Make it pretty stiff too... with barely any flex for a 235 lb rider. HR

All right, I leveled some abuse, now I'll level some advice. I like a "pure pintail" shape. By that, I mean a fully rounded nose, and full pintail, no visible wheel cut-outs or wells from the top. Something around 45x9 or 9.5. If the holes are drilled way forward, and far enough back, then trucks around 180mm with full offset wheels can be fitted with no chance of wheelbite. That, for me, is the definition and the entire reason that pintails exist. The "surfy" feel is due to the tapered tail, you get a lot of rear action that way due to flex / snap. The loaded construction is begging for this shape. Make it with fairly modest camber, and able to support 200lb without dragging, and I'll put my money where my mouth is.

It's great to hear all these thoughts on our board designs. yes, aesthetics are a huge part of the appeal of longboards. Since the aesthetic of the carve is primary, loaded design considerations favor board performance over aesthetic. However, a functional board need not be ugly. loaded views our designs and constructions as works in progress. we've come a long way with regard to the technical perfection and subsequent cleaneness of our board and our proud of this. However, I think we have a long way to go and hope to make our boards as beautiful as they are functional.
My aesthetic opinion of our boards is as follows: The Vanguard is a workhorse. as construction gets better the board looks more refined, but it is anomolous and the aesthetics of the shape have suffered somewhat from the functional wheelwells (early rounded prototypes are my favorite). Comfortable leverage and torsional considerations led to a consistent 8.5" width and sidecuts. The Hammerhead: jury is still out. I love the ride, but the shape is more than a bit odd. Critically, while I do like the look I don't think they are as fluid looking as could be. The Fish: My current favorite both aesthetically (by far) and for lower speed functionally. Boards are done, new pics to come out shortly. judge for yourselves
And herbn, aside from the multitude of rough cut prototypes (which exclusively are appropriated by board testers/friends), rest assured that to my knowledge all boards we are now selling or have sold (aside from one mistake) have computer cut (cnc) drilling templates. And all new production is finished on a cnc routering template. once again, it's a work in progress.
As to a Pintail: A number of designs have been drawn up, but none are too satisfactory (ie. hold up to the vanguard) and therefore take a backseat to a board being designed around the Original Trucks. But if and hopefully when a Pintail is built, these are our current considerations: I'd ride a pintail relatively forward and therefore would want the camber forward. Riding it from the nose would entail a truck configuration (at more than 35" i'd go Randal R-II 180s, perhaps 180 rear/150 front?) with angled riser(s) or kingpin angles or at least bushing configuration giving more rear stability. Rear foot placement, while near midboard should be at least 7" wide so it can be leveraged hard. We're finding it challenging to build this with beautiful lines and would love to hear any thoughts or other considerations/perspectives.
thanx

"Wide Ride" suggestions

I would like some suggestions about buying a wide deck setup. I am looking for a deck 10.5" or wider and 36" or longer.I am going to use it for crusing and maybe in the park. Who makes decks this size and what trucks and wheels are a good match for these wider decks? Are there any other special considerations that need to be made when setting up a wider deck? Thanks

v-ply right? i saw one with a rather obvious assymetry in the nose, a lump , like i may have had on my home cuts 15 years ago, cutting with a dull blade and hoping to sand them correct. I couldn't really check the drilling but with cutting like that , confidence is not instilled.

I do concur with you hugh - the shapes of the boards are not entirely aesthetically pleasing to me either. I had heard a lot of good things about the Loaded boards, but I still chose the Pumpkin, mostly because I liked the shape better. I'm still a surfer at heart, and there's something about big wheel cutouts etc. that just looks weird to me. But I'm also picky about my surfboards too....

I have had several conversations with the Loaded guys concerning the shapes of their boards.
I love the looks of the glass and ply's, but it's the shapes that I don't care for much.
Don't get me wrong, they are a hoot to ride and are one of the more responsive decks being built. The shape is very functional, but not too pleasing to my eyes...
What I want is a surf shaped PINTAIL! HR

i dont find them to be too ugly i just think that if they did not use that matt fibreblass it would look a lot better. is the matt stuff structually stronger or do they just like the look of it? me i dont think they are ugly at all. they are not the prettiest boards around but they look like a functional carvers.

Looker,
Yeah, Loaded should get themselves a few artists, but do some asphalt-carving on their boards and see if you can't stop smiling. You can date some beauties, but you marry the girl or boy who knows how to rock your world. . . . :)
