Hi guys,
This is the best chatter on the cyber forum in a long time. Peter NICE new personal best time!
Allan, I think Peter's posts are from several years of cyber experience. Knocking off 0.1 or 0.2 sec from your cyber time can take a LONG time if you are a high level racer and especially so I you are at an experienced level of technique in cyber. Even more so if you are already at mid to lower 8 sec speed.
From 2003 to 2004 notice my time only improved 0.02 in an entire year (8.146 to 8.124) and I was trying very hard. The faster times after my first PR in 2004 resulted in a very concerted fitness program (I was not out of shape to start so this was a huge effort - million+ meters on the erg rower) and a better surface to cyber on.
Now given all this, I am NOT completely discounting your posted time. I am hopeful that you are running sub 8 sec times. It will make the cyberslalom cup that much more fun and challenging this year. A real cool cyber challenge would be between you and Peter?
A couple of notes:
Wind: This has a HUGE effect. I never record any times even in the gentlest breeze. It makes from 0.1 to 0.5+ difference in your times, moreso if you are going "uphill" and the wind is helping.
Cone spacing: If running metric, 1.8m is not equal to 6 ft. 1.8m v.s 6ft has about 0.1sec effect (shortens course by over 2 ft >>> 1.8m = 5.905ft = 5 ft, 10.866in. This totals to 24*1.134"= 27.21" = 2.267ft. This is the distance less than the required 144ft (cones only). 174ft/9 sec = 19.3333ft/sec speed. 2.267ft/19.3333ft/sec = 0.117sec.)
Good luck on your mission. Keep up the cyber work, especially if you are going to Grenoble this year. It will make the difference.
Michael

Patrik, I been doing Cyber more then most and also spoken to The Dongster alot on the subject. I feel I have it wiered bether then most. I know you are a fast guy, but not a sub 8 sec kind of guy. saint- Croq is not even close to the time he posted. 6 feet = 1,8288 m 15 feet start till first cone and 15 feet from last cone to finish. 15 feet = 4,572 m. TOTAL leght 174 feet = 53,0352 meters.
You have to make runs from both directions ad the best time in each direction and devide it by 2. Flat surface is a most, you lose more speed going uphill then you win going downhill.
Best of luck to you and hope to see you in Riga next week.
Yours fastest PK

ok ok... I guess we'll have to do some cyber again and prove you WRONG... this time I'll take my camera... and I'm kind of surprised you really think you can beat by 3 to 4 tenths of a second... the weather doesn't look too bad tonight, if we manage to get the timer, we might even go do some cyber tonight to dissipate any BULLSH#@T in the air.

I whent cyber twice this week with Hans Göthberg, a fast guy. Hans did 8,66 chicken foot (it´s good). I did 8,355 today. I think Mr Ällan and Saint- Criq should read the rules and then redo there Cyber, after that they can ask Adam to remove there posted times and post something like 8.6-8.7 on Allan and 9.2-9.4 on Saint-Criq.
YOUR TIMES ARE BOGUS, THERE BULs#@!.

We have been running Cyber Slalom all week long. My set up is pretty loose, would I get more traction with a tighter set up? Your Amigo Eddy Texas Outlaws/Pavel Skates.

I don't know how much your into slalom Rick, but if you want to go out and hit pumpstation you should check into the discussion on the fish. I hooked up with a bunch of guys there on Saturday and we skated two hills out there. They're out there all the time

Justin and I , last sat. had a great talk as well as surfed that hill with no cones and just the dots set up for past races and at this point feel the cones are very big and needed.

I've set cyber on tennis courts and it works well. you need at least 4 in row- or you won't be able to slow down before you hit the fence.

Cyber sessions benefit from some shake up, to keep it interesting -- over our winter, we wouldn't usually go for more than an hour or so of regulation cyber without moving onto variations like:
- unlimited distance starts - big off-sets - 5.5-foot centers - no cones and 2-ft longer course (the 'Trap') - head-to-head Trap - garage bombing with elevator chairlifts ;-)
In the wet northwest we have to get creative with this flatland stuff. And shaving the tenths does get oddly addictive...

i had absolutely no idea people were still doing cyber slalom....that's amazing
good for practice i guess though.....it can drive you insane with both boredom and the inate urge to shave a tenth of a second by running the same thing for hours on end

Matt,
I'm pretty sure that cyber slalom was designed around the Turner/ Siesmic/ 3dm cone... 5.25in. OD base/ 9.25in. height.

random idea:
has anyone used tennis courts to run cyber? they seem to be pretty much flat, have straight lines, and are usually in groups of 4 or 5, so there is plenty of room...
opinions???

I like the idea. I'll certainly agree with keeping the course set to 174' since as you state it's hard to find an area long enough and flat enough.
I'm not sure if it'll catch on or not but I'm game.
