ready for park slalom!
On 10/23/2005 mbl wrote in from Canada  (209.226.nnn.nnn)

Hey chris - are you and civ at iceland in mississauga in those shots?
you'll be super-ready for park slalom if you keep riding like that but you should have used those cones, too!
anyway, i don't know if my sons think having a skatepark is a luxury or not - they've watched their mom and her partner work everyday for two years to keep the thing running and they realize how much work goes into it. luckily they like to skate and worked really hard when they were homeschooled (as they do now) to be part of it. basically, we all really like it and our lifestyle goes with it

hell ya, luxury!

Yah, I'd like to have a park nearby or in my home, that would be totally kickass. Ever since the dovercourt open I've been rocking more and more park, such a good outlet for stress.

Civ's been the one pushing for it too, he's totally addicted.

Daniel Duquet
On 10/22/2005 Cknuck wrote in from Canada  (209.226.nnn.nnn)

Yes, dan is MB's son. He and his older brother Gabrile decided the day before school started that they were going to start regular school this year. Dan has been skating for less then two years.

So no matter how you look at it. He did really well taking out his older more experienced brother along with a former Team mate that is 14. He also knocked off a few other talented individual riders as well.

Dan is going to be a well rounded skater. He did quite well in his first Slalom event at the Farm Final race series. I've been coaching Dan along with members of the staff and I can sya that I've never seen Dan put together such a strong performance as he did that day.

Only hours earlier I informed him that him and Jared were going to compete in the Older group he was scared and reluctant. So we had a Coach/Student conversation as I explained the reasons and the advantages of competing against the big boys. We left it for him to decide. He obviously made the right choice.

There are millions of people that have the same oppurtunity in different eviroments around the World. It's a matter of your own drive and of course some of that Natural Ability. for those of us that don't have that natural ability we need to have a much stronger work ethic along with some luck to succeed. EH!

Just an inquiry...

If i'm not mistaken, isn't Daniel Duquet your son? Must be nice to have the luxury to skate all day at a park, instead of school.

park slalom nov. 19
On 10/19/2005 mbl wrote in from Canada  (209.226.nnn.nnn)

we're celebrating our 2nd anniversary of The Ottawa Sk8park with park slalom on sat. nov. 19
everyone here is stoked on this event including 8 yr. old Dan Duquet, our youngest slalomer. Daniel is gaining proficiency in most skateboard disciplines as in our park contest last Sat., he and friend Jared Wagner had to move into the 14 and under category as there were only the two of them entered in the ten & under and they didn't ant to skate againsteach other.
Dan won the 14 and under division beating several older and more experienced skaters. He's looking forward to park slalom.

Yeah I just searched for it from the legacy site. Sounds like he was a real down to earth guy. Didn't know him, but being a Calgary Loc (Loc/Cal) I feel connected. Sucks to hear when stuff like this hapens. All the best to his friends and family.

Naphte Magazine Meeting
On 10/11/2005 Mig wrote in from Canada  (206.162.nnn.nnn)

Naphte Mag organized a meeting last saturday in Quebec City to promote longboarding. There was some slalom, freecarving and sliding sessions. Plenty of demo boards to try. And a slalom race and slide contest.

Here's a video of the meeting by Boris Firquet, a friend and avid longboarder.

That's what you get for moving out into the boonies.

I think you may need more broom duty too :P

Monday and Tuesday are looking like crap, so maybe run some cones after a clover session Saturday or Sunday afternoon?

Wednesdays session went off fine.

Low turnout, but the weather was frikken perfect! No wind, not too hot, not cold at all. Are you high, snowplow?!! It was +19ºC [+65ºF]!!

Chuck, Tony and I ran a dual TS until it was too dark to run them anymore. Tiemon and Izzo drove right by us, but somehow missed 3 old guys sizziling through the cones and kept going.

You guys suck, and are going to slalom hell. You're both on chalk duty next session. :p

Where you from Chris? I was born in Vancouver. But I was raised in Edmonton. I did one year at UBC before returning to Alberta for the rest of my sordid academic career. My grandparents (all long gone) were in Vancouver and Aldergrove.

Metro[Toronto]Longboarders sessions
On 9/27/2005 Tom Browne wrote in from Canada  (70.49.nnn.nnn)

Hey GTA Longboarders,

This coming Sunday [Oct 2/05] is the next regular session. The plan is to meet at Hogtown around 11am, head up to the Cummer Skate Park for a little session and meet up with other longboarders, then hit the hill to the west - namely Grandview and Snowcrest. There are usually a couple cars leaving from and returning to downtown. It's also accessible by TTC. If you want a map to the spots let me know and I'll send it to you.

The session after that will be Oct 16. No destination has been suggested for that one yet. Any ideas?

Write me at longsk8rtom@netscape.net to be added to the list and get complete e-maila messages [this one it edited].

Hope to ride with you soon,
Tom

Are we picking you up?

Tell Jon I said Thanks for the write-up it was nice to see it in the same Concrete Wave Edition as my First true Skateboard Hero of the Day. Russ Howell!

For those who know me well a lot of what Russ says is the way I have felt about the industry and it's direction for years.
