Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada (for those who may not know). Looking for local riders, more hills, lanes, paths, ect, ect, round here, just moved here a few days ago, and right by the place of which i live is the most insane little bimber of a hill, with a nice curvy lil corner onto a tight lil bridge, leading to a (i think) 6k sea walk..that's straight aheah, to the right, a nice path with some dips and curves leading all the way across the city of Nanaimo (one end to the other). It's great, i love it here, very calming, relaxing, good attitudes, beautiful girls (thousands of em), the best java in the world, the freshest air around, and all the best highways, roads and hills on the island....you gotta come check it out if you've never been here before. you'd love it, and i need riders, i wanna ride with people, there's only so much that can be done alone...haha...live it, love, ride it, take the pain, and do it all again...i been riding just a few years, transfered over from those damn "short" boards, like, don't get me wrong, nothing like a good shin racking, but i'll never turn back, as soon as i stepped on that piece of beautiful cherry, i was in heaven, still am, i don't care what happens, or where it takes me, but as long as i got that and my music, and my coffee, i could never ask for anything more...i'm just wasting time, typing, a few thousand characters later, at the end of the highway, there it is, across the ocean, and right into the palm of your hands....that's the s#@!, that's the love. till next time.. sHaYnE (hYe) Gordon

anyone use a freeboard in the past. I am looking for some local opinions that I can count on. It seems like a board that will allow you to negotiate tight turns on steep and narrow hills (as an intermdediate rider I find it hard to slow down) but how hard is it to slide this thing across on heel edge?

some thoughts from coastlongboarding.com for BRIAN AND HIS FRIENDS AND FAMILY

I just took a few comments off our site and posted them here. were thinking of you guys and we have our helmets.
Subject: RE: LONGBOARDERS PAY YOUR RESPECTS 2 BRIAN ROGERS Date: 20-03-2004 Author: shredi Reply I am relatively new to the sport of downhill sk8ing but this sad news, I have goose bumps all over me while Im writing this. To know that I have been hit (seriously) at least 15 times by different cars on all kinds of different occassions( also suffered a 2 and a half month coma) I will not go out again on my board without a helmet. I believe that the main idea of longboarding is the longevity of the sport, there are people of all ages out ridin and rippin. There is one constant theme though, they all wanna do it for a long time. They love the sport, the rush, the zen-like experience of doing 100kph(60-65mph) Its all a part of it, SO IS CRASHING So figure it out and wear a helmet, the life you save may just be your own. I feel a tremendous loss because this sounds to be the insperational type of people that everyone could stand to learn from. There is never a good loss when a brother sk8er goes, Ijust wish his family well and hope to meet again other legends in this sport (like Kludy, chaput, dekyser, smouse, the list is endless.
I prey everyday not to hear this kind of news, about anybody. At least he was in the process of doing what he loved, and I hope that others take this as their example, AND START WEARING HELMETS ALL THE TIME NO MATTER WHAT KIND OF RIDING YOU ARE DOING.
All of my respect and best wishes to all who ride, I hope to get the oppportunity to ride with you all. Shredi

Anyone interested please contact me.
Hopefully, I will be taking a couple of my new luges based on the Gumball Machine by Chris Chaput.

We don't have one. Can you and Jimi build one or two?
I'm going to need it to compete (ASCC) with the new gear and to run the Easter races ( do you want to run Olympic stadium Outlaw on Monday as we are planning on running our race/Clinic on Saturday?) and the proposed Canada Day event here in Ottawa.
I am now going to make arrangements to add the other 2 races (Oregon and Da Farm) to my 2004 race schedule.

There has not been a good response from the city about getting the roads officially shut down in MTL so we are going to have to do it Outlaw. The thing is we have a few locations at the Big-O that will work great and nobody should shut us down for a long time. We can run a great Giant Slalom and a tight slalom of course.
Timing gear will be able to travel Claude?

Okay lets take it from the top. We talked about it at our rained out G1.
4 days, 4 cities. We tried to arrange it so we could fly ourselves (the organisers) for each city along with rentals. Each and every group had to do was get the location set-up (not easy).
All of your (Rob, Ian, Pierre) previously stated posts are valid. We agree. Although we were ready to mkae it even if we had to drive.
So nothing is hapening anywhere but in Ottawa, that weekend! MB will follow with the details.
Pierre both models look great. nice touch.

I agree too but with Toronto and Ottawa the same weekend it means almost as much travelling for us in Montreal, why not group Hamilton - Toronto and later Ottawa - Montreal. Or better each city has it's own weekend and we cumulate point after the 4 eastern race to call it a series.
Anyway i can't wait to race !!

Ian:
I have to agree with you, especially with these being the first formal races we have had in Eastern Canada.
My suggestion is maybe to have two races (Toronto and Ottawa) over that weekend and concentrate our efforts on producing high quality events that challenge the racers and provide a great demonstration for the masses.
Four races in four cities will potentially result in more time travelling than that of racing.
Just my 2 cents.
All the best,
Rob

The thought of running four races in four days in four cities with a combined total of 16 hrs driving time does seem a bit ambitious doesn't it... What about the two cities on lake ontario organize themselves for two or three weeks later?
Focus your energies on getting behind a Ottawa Montreal trip over Easter and be ready for an invasion when you can host us.
Sound better?

Hey! Canadian StreetLugers! Wake up! It's spring!
OK, almost - so we had 15cm of snow yesterday. Things are looking up. I had my new downhill board out for a rip and it was only -2 C. That's almost warm! Ohio is sure to be better. Let's go down in force!
Let Duff Gibson worry about being the fastest on ice - we will be the fastest on the street.
Scott? Team Element?
Anybody up for racing on a closed street?
Cheers,
Paul
