The course is nice. The pavement is not as good as what was posted so I really don't have anything softenough. I will also end up ridding my Kebbek board rather then the Bonita as wheel base is way to big for this particular course.

The weather is hot and clear. They are calling for some possible showers during saturday or sunday. There will likely be some changes in the schedule becasue of the inpending weather. But you just never know.

For anyone planning on coming here they use their own swedish coins so don't convert your Canadian Bacon to Euro's.

Ian I went to Dan's shop. He opened a month ago right around the corner from Corky's shop. Go figure.

There are 3 nice pools to ride by the shop. 3 Different depths and all very transferable from one to the other when it's safe to do so.

On 7/13/2005 Claude wrote in from Sweden  (213.238.nnn.nnn)

Okay, got some sleep and I'm ready to see Stockholm. I can feel it already however. It's hot and I'm sweaty just like at home.

It was a long trip out here from Ottawa. 12 hours between flights in the Manchester Airport wasn't a lot of fun. It is a nice fairly big Airport so when I was awake at least I wasn't bored.

We are heading into town (Corky & Dan G). Corky has some work to do and Dan and I will just hang till we go to the GS site tonight for some equipment testing.

Hope you folks stay safe and I'll do my best for all of you. Glad you made it home safe Brad and rest up.

Hi Claude,,,,thanks for the encouraging words,,,,,,made it home in good time and had a lot of time to recap the weekend,,,,,,

in regards to yr comments about making yr course tighter,,,, no,,, the course you set was very good and was challenging for all racers and their skill levels,,,,if we had made it any tighter,,some of the kids would have found it tooo tough and wouldn't have had any fun that day.

The hill at hood was a lil steeper than Roosevelt and the grade of the hill was alot longer,,,, from what I understood,,, they had the start ramps set up higher than the previous years and that added some addition speed to the course.

The course set was really good,,,,,mostly 6.5'ers at the top, with a couple 7'offset sections, a 6.5' curved section and finishing with a 6.5' - 7'straight section,,,,all the rythym changes were set at 9' or 10' apart,,,,

alot of it is just gaining some more race experience,,,,especially the mental part,,,,and mine wasn't there,,,,one good example was my first head to head run in the c bracket,,,,I hit the first cone on the wrong side,,, dq right away,,,,,

My cousin Jeff and his 2 kids, Natalie and Garrett came out and watched the race and were pretty supportive,,,,,,I still chuckle about this .....after one of my practice runs ,,,young Garrett, whose never seen a slalom race gave me some serious coaching advise,,,,,,"Brad, ya need to bend yr knees more and get the feet moving",,, which pretty much said it all,,,,,

The top guns at Hood were pretty helpful and gave me some advice on some equipment changes,,,through out the weekend, and with winning the C bracket,,,,I managed to pick up a new Roe, g/s board,,,,,so I'm looking forward to setting that up,,,,,

You, Mike and Pierre gave some insight on what to expect out here,,,,it's too bad none of you guys could have made it out here.... I'll have to make you guys a deal for next year,,,,,,I'll come out for the Ottawa race again and you guys all have to come down here to Hood with me,,,,,It's a great venue, great time and Great people.

Hey Brad!

No need to apologize buddy. The fact that you made the treck to rep for the rest of the country is great. Aren't you just a little sorry I didn't make the Canada Day a real Tight Slalom course.

Getting more race experience is the key to success. Proper practice makes racing better. Better racing oponents make each and every racer better.

Gad to hear you were happy with the GS. I remember our conversations regarding the event.

Congrats on the C Win.

Have a safe drive home.

Hey,,, Just stopped in the Dog River Cafe,Hood River, making my way home,,,,,this past weekend ,to say the least was FFFFFUUUUUNNNN,,,, saw some great racing, met alot of great people.

The G.S. was unbelievable,,, my 1st time racing G.S. on a skateboard and had to look back to my snowboard racing experience to get me thru the course,,,,man the legs were shaking thru last 5 cones and just hoping to have enough strength to foot brake at the end of the course,,,plaing 19th for the day......

as for the ts,,,,sorry gang,, I feel I let the Canadians down,,let alone myself,,, dqing both runs,,,,fast hill and a killer set,,,,,luckily for the 3 tiered format,,, I got the opportunity to redeem myself in the c bracket and winning.

gotta get back on the road,,,,another 15 hrs to go,,,,,,,

have a safe trip to Stockholm Claude and Good Luck

ciao for now

A fun time indeed in the great white north...next time I will come up when there's snow on the ground...we'll slice up the snow,OK, Rob? All the neighbors who lived near the tight slalom course were great folks with whom to talk as were all those spectators at the race on saturday. Thanks for the breakfast, Rob, at the Official Elvis Sightings Restaurant. I watched fireworks via rooftop with everyone to celebrate Canada Day.....then watched them from the road as I drove home through NY and PA sunday eve. This time I drove straight through, leaving Ottawa at 6pm after skating the concrete parks again at Legacy and Katana, arriving home at 4am monday. I slept all day yesterday, awakening only to see the fireworks at home while celebrating our Independence Day. That was my first time in Canada on a skateboard...but it won't be my last. I hope to skate w/you all again. Thanks for the fun time you all showed me! Hey, who won the SnoreFest? I know there were plenty of midnight carpenters at work throughout the night!

Montreal
On 7/4/2005 Joe i wrote in from United States  (24.2.nnn.nnn)

When we found out that everybody was going to split after the awards presentation, I started asking around for some floor space in Montreal.

Pierre, despite already having guests, figured out how to put up us 4. Needless to say the man is a saint and will be treated like a king in CT anytime.

JF and Pierre then bought us beer(?) and took us to the Big O for a little slide practice. A slalom race at this spot would be world class, the hill is great and the venue is spooky cool. You guys need to make this happen.

Then after a stop at JF's for more beer and to wake up Montoya, the feral off center mohawked downhiller, we headed out to the bars of montreal on boards.
First stop was a skater bar. Molly and Marshall, while too young for the US bars, had their first bar experience in a perfect spot. I knew it was perfect when Molly jumped on the pool table to stick a Fatboy sticker on stuffed shark.

More skateboarding, more bars, more perfect roads, next thing I know the sun is coming up. Smoked meat, Poutin, Montoya, JF, and Pierre. It was awesome. Molly, Marshall, and I agreed we would never forget it. We hope to be able to repay you some day.

Joe

Thank you to Rob and Civ for your good company and for bringing Mike and Chris.

It was my pleasure to make many new friends. The Quebec Crew, Julie, Mig, Dan, Reggie, and Richard the sweater guy - I can't wait to skate with you guys again.

Dwayne, Fast Freddie, The Rookie, Raylene, Brad BOHIKA, all you guys were fun to hang out with and super nice to my new guys, Molly and Marshall.

Ian, the arm wrestle for the t-shirt was classic.

Thank you all so much. I hope some of you will make it to our Farm Final in VT at summers end.

Great weekend of racing.

Exceptionally proud of Civ - 1st and a 2nd - can't ask for better

It was a absolute pleasure meeting the rest of the Montreal crew - great bunch of racers who I look foward to racing/partying with in the future.

Joe I, Molly, Marshall and John D. - my American buddies - glad you finally got north of the border - hope you guys had a blast. I will have to hear the Montreal stories

Brad Kasha - great meeting you and we will see you in Alberta

To everyone else - keep hammering cones.

One quick request, of anyone has video of me racing, I would really appreciate getting a copy. I have never seen myself in a course and would love to have some footage to show my son.

All the best,

Rob

The courses were "challenging" ;-) The vibe was cool and i think everyone enjoyed racing.

I'm still sore from hitting Brad at the bottom of Legacy Skatepark, he is a solid guy, sorry Brad.
We had a super fun session in Montreal saturday nite with Joe I., Bob, Marshall and Molly, JF and Montoya, hitting a few pit stops on the way...ended at 4:30 am. That newly paved Berry Hill has dual GS written all over it...

So thank you all, i had a blast!

There are lots of races Won and Lost due to wind and several other factors.

You won fair and square. Congrats.

I hope everyone else had a good time.

Claude, Claude, Claude...
Keep in mind that I coach, and do it at a rate that puts a bit of bread on the table. You just gotta quit using Canadian currency and charging rates that are current with the 1980's !
If you didn't notice by now, you're a good coach ! Quit giving the 'skills' away, and make the 'wanna be' racers pay for what you own...

Oh, and sorry I didn't get up your way, our minivan went in for repairs (I also had Greens to mow at the Park, kinda crimps the gettin'-to-Ottawa by 10 Am schedule), as it got a tad toasty on the trip to Glouster (love traffic jams in 90* heat, don't you?). I WILL make it up your way before Season's end, promise.

funny how that wind works....I guess it had nothing to do with your time in the tight eh?...i think I remember a pretty stiff tailwind that came up for ya....And for the record...EVERYONE had to deal with the headwind..including me. Nice beating ya tho...OH....and the tight was down to the wire, Claude and I racing head to head within inches of each other...I just decided to fall and smash my head so he could win. Next year I wont let ya stay so close.
