LB Setup
On 11/11/2003 Chris Chaput wrote in from (66.116.nnn.nnn)

That's a real flexy 57" deck with the "bolt-on" kicktail. Both Ed and I prefer the type of "dead flex" of that plywood to the boards that are laid up with the kick molded in.

I wedge both the front and the back to add steering and have risers under the wedges. This board has Invaders with 7" hangers. They're cheap and they turn great. They have an old-school Tracker-Like geometry, old-school hole patterns and kingpins long enough for loose trucks with normal cushions.

The 70mm sideset wheels work great on this setup. The slide well when you need them to but otherwise stick and roll well. I'm currently working on a 55" version that'll suit me a little better. These are FUN boards!

Chris's Set Up
On 11/11/2003 Ricky wrote in from (24.170.nnn.nnn)

Chris, help me out.
Can you fill us in on your set up of the Ed your riding as far as wheels and trucks go. I bet your wheels are green. Flashbacks? Do you wedge your trucks? What type of trucks do you prefer? You've added a block type kicktail to your deck, why not just get the Street or Bank Rider? You like the flex for cruising and carving?

Tis (almost) the season...I need to spec out my Christmas list :)

On 11/11/2003 squid wrote in from (195.157.nnn.nnn)

Wicked about time this site started dedicting a bit of time to those of us who have an above avarage lenght bit of wood.....I am a UK Longboarder - what makes me a longboarder is attitude - I would rather ride a BIG LONG ARSE BOARD than a short flippy kind of board......it's not that I don't or can't ride a shorty, just that I prefer a big woody to a small one......maybe this is the difference.......i am also not into wobbaling between cones - not that there is anything wrong in that for those people who enjoy it, but I want to ride hard and fast on a big woody!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Peace

Squid

Step by Step
On 11/10/2003 Chris Chaput wrote in from (66.116.nnn.nnn)

1. Stand switch with your foot over the nose
2. Begin to slide the back end around
3. Stop the slide at 180 degrees
4. "Spot" the front of the board
5. Blindly turn on the ball of your foot
6. Put your foot back down on the front

Rinse. Repeat (if you have hair). Notice that if your body rotates 1/4 turn more after step 6, you're back in the same position as step 1 and are ready to do it again.

LB Slide Pics #2
On 11/10/2003 Chris Chaput wrote in from (66.116.nnn.nnn)

Here's the recovery portion of a slide. To do a slide on a board this long, you have to be moving at a decent clip and/or be on a slope. If you're going too slow or you don't rotate quickly enough, the board will stop sliding part way through and buck you off.

I like sliding the other direction better. You have to be totally comitted to the toeside slide on a board this big. Ed's boards are cool. So is Ed.

Longboard?
On 11/10/2003 Geezer-X wrote in from (149.2.nnn.nnn)

If my regular board is shorter than the wheelbase of the longer one, then the long one is a longboard. Just kidding.

I was riding my 57" Ed E in NYC this weekend. Flowing, and scaring pedestrians. Theres nothing else like it. Nearest thing to flying.

I think Longboarding is, just like all other sk8ing, a love to your board. As a longboarder, you love your board long, but the bottom line of it is, it's about skateboarding. Longboarding to me is soft and easy cruisin, stylin and do what the **** you wanna do, as long as you love your board

long board, longboard
On 11/7/2003 dreads wrote in from (172.181.nnn.nnn)

What means longboarding? Is it only to ride a long enough board, and there you are? Is it a different style of skating? Have you got to do walking tricks and slides to say "look, i'm a longboarder"? Is it allowed to kick flip a long board? Can i bomb a hill on my short board and still being a longboarder? Is it a state of mind? I'm so confused...

I suspect this forum won't have much in it... Longboarders tend to be mellow and mostly skating rather talk/fight or flame about it all...
