Yo Eddy, that is an awesome collection of boards! Your night skating session reminds me of when I lived in Florida and would sneak into a nearby landfill and skate the road they had coming down from the top. Very little light, fewer turns but if you hit something carving... you got tossed pretty good! Ahh, night skating. Not much compares to it!

Mr X, there's two questins to ask yourself here. Do I ride a Wide board? Am I likely to 'kick' my own wheels in pushing along? Those would be the factors I see in making a truck width choice. If your board is wide enough, you'll have the steering leverage, and be less likely to inadvertantly trip over a wheel while pushing along. Skinnier trucks are more nimble because of steering leverage, and the fact that the wheels are closer to the pivot.
In Slalom, you want to go skinny enough to be nimble, but just wide enough to feel 'planted' in the turn. Same is more-or-less true with a pumper, but the
agility is less important than feeling the love of a smoothly pumped carve.
Match the deck width to the combined truck/wheel combo if possible to within an 1"-2" difference. Carvers may not need any wedging, kinda are set-up for pumping as-is. Revenge trucks would need only a little extra front steering, and/or reduction of steering at the rear, but you may want softer bushings up front. Revenges will work better on a cambered deck btw, as they'll work with the flex very nicely.

Folks,
Question if you don't mind. Been boarding for years and thought it was time to buy a long board. I've narrowed the trucks down to two, either a pair of Revenge's tweaked with angled risers or Carvers. Now for the question... 150mm or 180mm? 180mm may be better for down hill or gs but the 150mm would probobly be better for pumping. I live in Illinois so pumping out weighs my down hill needs. (Illinois is pretty flat) Anybody have issues with 180mm and pumping the board? I've been reading that most pumpers have trucks in the 107mm to 150 range. True?

Yes, it should be an 'official' sport, but...
Skateboarding is non-violet, dosen't preclude any deliberate smashing of opponent's skulls, is a solitary venture, thus dosen't 'blend' teamwork ethics the Military prefers from our youth, and of course, it's HATED by the Police (not necessarily outlawed, just a good excuse to kick a 2nd-class citizen in the head, for Fun, ya know?). Oh, and it can 'malisciously' deface public property (this assumes Skater's don't work or pay taxes), but that, really, is because Lawyers swopoped in and took away Skateparks in the early 80's. Skater's Adapted to the environs, and, in "Real" sports, that's just not kosher, often not even allowed.
So, skateboarding has had a tough time of it, but it's still here. Moreover, it has more disciplines within it than ANY OTHER SPORT! There's these that I can think of off the top of my head, there may be more??
Freestyle; 360 Spin Comp; Streetstyle; Launch Ramp Airs; 1/2 Pipe Ramp; Full Pipe; Full Pipe Looping; Bowl; Highjump; Ditch or Bank; BoarderCross; Banked Slalom; Tight Slalom, Hybrid Slalom; G.S. Slalom; Super-G Slalom; Sliding; Standup Downhill; Buttboard/Classic Luge; StreetLuge; SkateCar:
All of these are special niches within the sport, no other sport (not even skiing) can claim as many disciplines, nor such a wide variety of vehichles (note, Recreational Longboards aren't 'listed' but can compete if a few of these classes) that are specifically designed for each event. So, we're, um, special, and way under-rated by 'Sports Officials' worldwide. It's been a longtime disgrace in just how the sport and it's participants have been treated by the Media, Public Officials, and especially Law Enforcement.
That's why I encourage you to talk to Karl. His solution was simple; Form a Longboard Club, and put on some Races. The cop at the bottom of the hill had nothing, and everything, to do with it.

Im 43, and just started downhill skating with my son who is 8. I surf, so riding a skateboard is natural. I have a sector 9 42 inch with 69mm 78d it is really fast for me and i am just getting used to it. I have to adjust the trucks for tightness. This is totally fun and Im hooked!

I am moving to san francisco july 17th! I pretty sure I'm the only longboarder in northwest Ohio,Or at least feel like it. I will have a longboard when I arrive (new longboard larry 48" kicker) I love larrys boards they have that quality feel. I'm 21 years old and could teach you some longboard tricks. J, yeah, been on them a few times, but don't own one. I've found that they are great on steeps where your 'average' longboard would just not get deep enough into the turn (and where Flowlabs wouls be sketchin' + slidin'). This is especially true when using the rubber tires (btw, I prefer the 'thane up front, rubber rear combo setup), which grip in places other wheels can't. I've even run these on damp pavement, and they're o.k. until you hit a puddle. Best thing tho, is the lack of speedwobbles. You have to be careful at under-jogging speeds, as the inherent tippiness will make your ankles work triple-time to keep up, but once you're motorin' along, T-boards come into their own. They carve pretty well, especially in lean. Gotta be careful not to tip Too Far into the turn as I've found the edges of the overwide deck will bring things to an abrubt halt if you 'roll it over' with too much enthusiasm.
Best thing was when Stratton Mountain School hooked up and grabbed some T-Boards to cross-train the kids with. Maybe not as effective as traditional Slalom skateboards, but still, a huge step in the right directon for cross-training. New-School skaters could Feel the turning, and usually adapt to the speeds required pretty quickly. Something with that bicycle-lean-effect, I think.
So, has anyone yet taken the T-board wheel setup and put it on a Landy EVO?? ;-) Just a thought...

Hi,
I live in Berkeley and am looking for people interested in wide downhill longboarding. I have a t-board (2 wheeled), it's a little like a snowboard. The kind of riding I enjoy is finding a fairly wide, smooth hill and carving it just like a ski slope.
Anyone into it? Or know where other people are doing this type of riding?

anyone down for some distance races?
I live in So-Cal and a buddy of mine from Paved wave that lives in Washington.
We both want to start distance races not just entering in Bike races.
He the guy James as alot of you may know that has skated 135miles in one day and in two days skated from Seattle to Portland.
I have skated Solo backpacking from the Mexican Border to the Canadian Boarder have tapes to prove it
I have a buddy down south here that skates in Mexican bike Races and he is down for day races.
Time to have skate races do the distance on our own not just with bikes
I would be encouraged to give prises to 1st 2nd and 3rd place winners if enough show up
