Yeah heres what I have to deal with....I was in Tyler park PA, rangers were fine with it until the supervisor of the DCNR came past, Then I was escorted out of the park with luge in hand....I am going thru talks with them as we speak, it's with the 'legal dept' so with any luck, I can return there. he told me not to come back until then.....

so that was aewsome today!f#@! da cops up in my city!!! i hate them at all!
was skating down the "schänzli"-park in berne, as two cops come to me. ok, they can't arresting or ticketing me, bcs skateboarding is legal on all places an roads in switzerland.
but they f#@!ed me up! first, the want to see my id an checket it up. then, i have to empty my backpack completly. then i asked the cop, why do they do this. the cop's say's: normally, skateboarders got some drugs or spraycolor for graphs in the backpack!!!
HEY f#@!!!! FIRST: We are not criminal, and do nothing prophided! SECOND: WE ARE NOT JUNKIES!!!
so f**ked cops didn't found any spray or grass in my backpack. then, they told me, that is prophidet to use a toy in a park!!! shiiiit! a skateboard used on a swiss street is equal a car or a bycicle on a street! but they rest on theyr s#@! and ticketing me with abou 100$!!!

Skateboarding is relatively unregulated in Los Angeles. I found two sections of the law -- Section 63 (parks) says no riding on Balboa Park walkway. Section 85.07 (Traffic) says you must follow "no-skateboarding" signs if they are posted.
As already posted earlier, California state law puts skateboard regulation into the hands of local county and city governments... So as far as the law is concerned, you probably don't have a problem. (Remember, I am not a lawyer and this is just my opinion, not advise on the law). Your more pressing concern would be working with the neighbors to keep them from complaining.
Is it possible that the areas that are being used are PRIVATE property of the townhouse, and not PUBLIC property? If they are PRIVATE property, then of course the owner can set any rules he wants....

Section D: Within the limits of any park other than beaches, no person shall: 3. Roller skate, board skate, or ride or drive any bicycle, scooter, or similar vehicle on the decks surrounding a swimming pool or on tennis courts.
SEC. 85.07. REGULATION OF ROLLER-SKATING, SKATEBOARDING AND BICYCLING. (Added by Ord. No. 166,526, Eff. 1/27/91.) (a) The Department of Transportation is hereby authorized to install any traffic control devices it determines necessary to regulate roller-skating, skateboarding and bicycling on sidewalks and roadways in order to improve vehicular or pedestrian movement, reduce congestion or diminish accident potential. Such determinations shall be made only on the basis of traffic engineering principles and traffic investigations. When such determinations have been made, the Department is authorized to install signs giving notice as to the nature of the regulation as well as signs that provide such safety warnings as it determines will assist those engaged in the regulated activities. (b) No person shall roller-skate, skateboard, or operate a bicycle in violation of the limitations set forth on regulatory signs posted pursuant to this section.

The kids could be bad kids that do that area alot of bad. Reseach the bad that could happen and shine a bright light and safey in skateboarding and as long as they here them they will alway know where they are and what they are doing. They could have rocks in hands and breaking out windows instead of a skateboarding thats doing something good for them and keeping them out of trouble.Skateboards have saved alot of lives and has made great men and women out of many of them just by riding a skateboard. Tell them they could fear real damage and noise if the kids having fun on skateboards where bored with nothing to do.
Dont fight them , SHOW THEM THE WAY. Hope that helps alittle.

I am a mother of a skateboarder and we live in a townhome complex that is totally anti-children. There newest attack is on a group of kids skateboarding around the neighborhood, how dangerous it is, how someone could be killed, and then the real beef which is the fear of damage to the complex and the noise. By the way, the kids are 8! I am trying to research this so when the 'ban' on this is official I can fight it. Any suggestions, laws, civil-rights info anyone can suggest? FYI - I live in Los Angeles.

unbelivable for me in switzerland! here is no law against skateboarding! it's only forbidden on highways :-) .
so does anybody know about laws in panama city beach, FL? i'll be there next year for spring break for two weeks. and for shure, my skate will come with me!

does anybody know where i can find the ordinances for skatboarding in White Plains, New York. I've looked everywhere and i just cant find them and i have to go to court tomorrow because i got a summons. The cop is a complete ass#@!, when his partner was writing the summons for him (must have been a rookie cuz he was clueless)he was talkin to some bike cops behind my back and i hurd him saying things such as "we need to crack down on these skateboarding s#@!s" and he continued to say how skaters are the problem with the city. So yea i just need 2 kno what the specific ordinances are and what they say so i can try to fight the ticket down or even find a loop hole or something. Thanks for ur help.

Hey, i am doing a report for school about skateboarding. It is a point of view assessment, and i decided to have my topic be on skateboarding. We should all try to legalize skateboarding on campus and in public places. The fuzz are going overboard, and are taking all of my favorite skate places away from me. I havent had my skatboard confinscated yet, but if i get busted for skating anywhere else, i might get sent away! Doesnt anybody think that that is a little overboard?!?!? I think that if we were allowed to skate in all public places, there would be less vandalization and crime.

The only law I could find relative to skateboarding is:
6.430 Operation of Bicycles, Skateboards and Scooters
(1) No person shall operate a skateboard, scooter or bicycle on a sidewalk within the area bound by Bear Creek, the north right-of-way of Sixth Street, the west right-of-way of Oakdale Avenue, and the south right-of-way of Tenth Street, except where official signs mark a designated bicycle path.
(2) No person shall operate a bicycle or other vehicle designed to carry two or more passengers abreast and equipped with three or more wheels on any public way designated and marked by official signs as a bicycle path. (3) All sidewalks and marked bicycle paths are hereby designated "public ways" for purposes of Chapters 483 and 487, Oregon Revised Statutes.
However, riding at night (without lights?) and exceeding the speed limit may violate other state or city laws ...

Oh man oh man oh man. I have had 90% of my run ins with the fuzz be a very crappy experience. I have already received a $97 ticket for "impeding traffic" at 1:30 in the morning while doing 10mph over the posted limit, on a 2 lane road (snap)and have been threatened many many times on Medford's newest ordinance of "disorderly conduct involving intent to obstruct auto or pedestrian traffic" with a nifty little $1000 fine. When I questioned the most recent officer to give me a ration of crap, about what traffic he though he saw me block, he simply said "I see you guys out here, I know how you ride" to which I responded "well then you should ticket us then" Bearing in mind, that the usual stomping grounds for riding has been taken over by some 16 year olds who yell at passing cars, carve across all lanes, and skitch their rides. So now those of us with discipline have to deal with the fascist cops who view all boarders as trouble, or find a new riding ground. We have two large hills, parallel to each other and a block apart. One of which is a two lane road in a school zone with no stop signs end to end, a bike lane, and about 10 side streets, all with stop signs. Max speed is about 35mph on said hill and traffic is easy to spot and drivers are very cautious, residents will sit in their yards and watch, a friendly neighborhood. the other road is 5 lane (2 each way and a turn lane at the bottom) with 1 side street and a merging street, and a sensor stoplight at the bottom (awesomely quick to respond to cars on side streets and visible about 1/2 mile away so one can stop or slow down with plenty of warning) I have personally hit 45mph with a poorly tuned board and a mediocre tuck, from about 1/2 way down the hill, so bear in mind, if ridden smoothly and from the top, it is easily a 60mph hill. Both of these roads have posted, limits of 35mph and MANY streetlights. I still can't figure out why we are constantly harassed by law enforcement about being a nuisance when we ride late at night and see very few cars, and we also refrain from sliding and making noise after 10pm (construction noise ordinance allows noise from 7am-10pm) We are usually in protective gear in some form, and always make ourselves seen to cars behind us and always move over for the cars, or simply stay in the right lane on the big road. It frustrates me that the shortboarders get no repercussions for destroying the new staircase at the middle school, but I get threatened with a $250 trespassing fine for skating through the school parking lot on my way to work one morning. It's sad when the police force that you are supposed to rely on to "protect and serve" is more like a nazi gestapo who I am more inclined to run from, for fear of having my board confiscated or getting hauled in. how do you other riders try to address the fuzz? I'm done being nice, and throwing their laws back in their face only pisses them off more, so what up? I need some advice...

You have the right, at any age, to contact your Mayor, Town Council (go to a town council meeting), City Council, County Commissioners Office, or even contact your State Senator. Express the issue you are having and tell them what you want to see happen.

man thats a bummer. i hate that man they just assume that s#@! was us all the time. the cops in our area have a real attitude. most the cops in the surrounding areas our generally cool but right where we are they have a real cocky attitude. bummer o well thanks man for passing on the knowledge ill make sure not to resist next time haha

okay. so me and some friends were at the skatepark the other day shredding as usual hha. and apparently someone was attempting to sell crack. soo the police come up and immediately tell us to put our hands up against the fence and start patting us down.
now i wanna know if thats like completely legal man cause he totally fondled my buttcheek twice and i was completely innocent been sober all my life.
so the question: is it legal for police to search without reason on public propperty on minors?

The first day of summer was also National Go Skating Day. Kids were encouraged to grab their skateboards, get outside and have fun. Underground Skates in Lebanon even held an event for the day at its shop at Ninth and Cumberland Streets. Of course, the YMCA had closed the skate park that day for a private party. This is the skatepark that so many kids fought the city to get, and the YMCA has turned this well-deserved park into a money racket. It costs kids $2 every time they want to use the park. For a kid who skates every day even for just a half hour, that's close to $200 dollars that kid pays for the summer. Is that fair?
On that day, the Lebanon police issued close to 30 citations - from what I had counted - to kids riding skateboards.
I am so sick of the adult community and its constant overreactions to skateboarders. What is wrong with the kids enjoying a sport like skateboarding? They could be out doing drugs, commiting crimes, all kinds of things we encourage them not to do. But then they find something that doesn't cause trouble, and you adults still find a way to complain. All of those adults who called the police June 21 and complained about the skateboarders should be ashamed of yourselves. It is completely ridiculous to keep harassing these kids for riding boards. If this is such a terrible problem, then I would like to start filing complaints about kids dribbling basketballs on the city sidewalks. It's so noisy to hear that I can't concentrate on my work.
To the authorities of Lebanon city, get a grip: You gave these kids a skatepark and turned it into a money scheme. Why doesn't the YMCA charge anyone to use that outdoor basketball court?
I congratulate all these young skaters for going out and keeping active, considering there is such a huge issue with childhood obesity and concern over young people not getting outside. You skateboarders are out every day, being told you can't do what you do, and you keep doing it. That's commendable in every way. Maybe the adult community that called the police on you all today at Underground Skates should stop contradicting itself. One minute they want you be active; the next minute they want to take away your activity. Grow up, Lebanon, skateboarding is only growing in popularity, and until Lebanon City makes a worthwile skatepark and doesnt charge the kids their saved allowances to ride in it, these kids are encouraged to keep going out and riding.
Keep skating. There are more of us than there are of them, and eventually they will get tired of wasting paper on $30 fines for skateboarding.

It appears to me that the offence the skateboarders are being charged with is for parade without a permit, rather than skateboarding. The skateboarding fine (only applies to the Central Business District) is $15. The parade without a permit fine is $300.
It actually appears that Lebanon has a reasonable skateboard law, allowing use on streets and sidewalks except in the "Central Business District".
Looks to me like the parade participants (who happened to be skateboarding) should have obtained a permit. Get a permit next year.
Perhaps you can fight it saying you were just "skateboarding", not "parading". And if you were in the "Central Business District" and this is your 1st offence, then you won't have a fine.

525 .03 PARENTAL RESPONSIBILITY .
Neither the parent of any minor (person under the age of eighteen) nor the
legal guardian of any minor shall authorize or knowingly permit any such minor to

525.99 PENALTY .
Whoever violates any of the provisions of this article shall, upon conviction
thereof:
(a)
First Offense. The skateboard used in violation of this article shall be

confiscation of the skateboard as aforesaid, the Police Department shall
notify the parents, guardian or other person having legal custody of such
minor of the violation of this article, the impounding of the skateboard
and a copy of this article .
(b)
Second or Subsequent Offense . The skateboard of any person violating
the provisions of this article for the second or subsequent time shall be
impounded by the Police Department for a period not exceeding thirty
days and such person shall, upon conviction be sentenced to pay a fine of
fifteen dollars ($15 .00) and costs ; in the event such person is a minor,
the skateboard of such minor shall be impounded by the Police
Department for a period not exceeding thirty days and the parent,
guardian or other person having legal custody of such minor shall be,
upon conviction, sentenced to pay a fine of fifteen dollars ($15 .00) plus
costs .

501 .04 PARADES AND PUBLIC EVENTS, PERMIT REQUIRED.
(a)
No person, lodge, society, group, association, local party or other organization
of any kind shall use the parks, grounds, streets or sidewalks of the City of Lebanon for
parades, gatherings, meetings, public events or demonstrations unless a permit is first obtained
from the City Clerk of the City of Lebanon .

Whenever any provision of this section is violated, whoever violates such

PLEASE READ AND REPOST THIS AS A BULLETIN
On June 21, Go Skateboarding Day, the skaters of Lebanon, PA. were out skating the town to raise awareness about Skateboarding and to celebrate Go Skateboarding Day. It was during their cruise around town (on public streets & sidewalks) that over 30 of them were stopped by the police and issued over $10,000.00 in fines (arresting officer told them it would be $300 per skater). They were not on private property and they were not doing tricks, they were simply cruising around town enjoying their sport.
No matter where you are in the United States or elsewhere, if you have an opinion about this please take the time to write a quick e-mail to the City of Lebanon regarding this incident and let them know how you feel.

I don't run when I see cops coming my way. I'm older than most cops, own my own business in downtown Dallas (so I'm REALLY a tax payer) and I welcome conversation with the police. It offers up the opportunity to show them how intelligent skateboarders can be. It usually ends with the cops laughing about me still riding a skateboard at age 39. A cop once told me after he had stopped me late at night and found out I was not stirring crap, "Have fun on that thing. Don't make me write you any tickets." My response: "I'll take that ticket......as long as it's for speeding." He just laughed and shook his head. It pays to be old at times.

My favorite dictionary definition of "skateboard" is, "A flat, wheeled toy, upon which a child sits or stands.”
In Los Angeles County, the law states:
15.08.185 Skateboard.
"Skateboard" means any board or any other object or device which has wheels attached to it by any means whatsoever and which is propelled by pushing, pulling, or gravitational forces, and to which there is not affixed any device or mechanism for steering. (Ord. 12259 § 1, 1980: Ord. 6544 Ch. 1 Art. 2 § 1222, 1954.)

Would it be better for me to have people sign waivers or would it be better if just post skate at your own risk and no trespassing signs? Do you guys know the laws on this?My wife and I would really like to know what would be the better way to protect ourselves from a lawsuit and still let people come and skate.
