i'm getting fed up with this UHMW stuff :( i already bought a sheet from McMaster-Carr, and there must be some way to attach them to the gloves i also already bought. i'm not looking to buy more UHMW, just an adhesive you can guarantee will work. i've roughed up the UHMW, i've tried different gloves, i've tried 3 different adhesives...why does everyone reccomended the plastic if there's no way to attach it to gloves?

We need to have some WHEELS made out of UHMW! Those would slide better than anything!

What do you guys think the best wheel is for sliding? What hardness is the best for a strictly sliding wheel?

melting UHMW - nope

if you really have UHMW, it doesn't really melt, just softens, so getting it to stick or penetrate into a fabric weave won't really work. if you heat it enough to liquify you are really burning it and it will break like candle wax after hardening (because you made candle wax out of it)
If you want to solve your problems, buy some UHMW from www.mcmaster.com, they sell some that is co-extruded with rubber on one side. Not only will everything stick good to the rubber but it provides a little cushioning for falls.

one more question on attaching UHMW to gloves. i plan on trying to melt them and stick them to my gloves now, all these glues keep failing and again i'm stuck without a pair of sliding gloves. i have a bunch of glue residue left on my gloves from where the pieces were before...if i melt the plastic and stick it onto that residue, will i run into any problems? i figure it's alright because the whole reason why they failed before was because the glue stuck the gloves stronger than it did to the plastic.
also if i heat the UHMW to a temp. where its liquified on the surface, will i get burned if my fingers are inside the glove and i push down onto the plastic? i use smaller sized pieces on my fingers and really like having them in the right spot, so i want to lay the plastic down with the hot part up...then wear the glove, and press the glove down onto the plastic. will i burn my hand? should i take the gloves off immediatly after attaching the plastic, or can i leave them on so they don't interfere with my hand shape?

That segment is great... if I can get my coworkers to look at it maybe they wont think I am insane because of my hobby.
The announcer sure is breathless... sounds like he's THIS close to getting a board after he finishes the segment.

Theres nothing under riding techniques..
Thanks for the advice dude, I was kinda thinking that the surrender to 360 transition involved rotating the body, now I'm gonna nail it. With the flatspin I've almost compleated it with a layback both hands down but the board gets away from me, I'll have it tho, I cant get the mecca to spin but I'll give it a go. Thanks again.

that flat spin nose grab is a tricky one i have been trying it for ages and only got it on days where i am stoked to the ear holes, to get the slide you should learn the flat spin where both your hands go over your coleman side as if your just doing a coleman but with your toeside hand down aswell then as you come to the point where you would normally start to slide back you kick you back foot out to bring the board faceing down the hill this stops it from leaving t=you and lets the board come round thi has to be a bit fluid but it is the key to all heel side flat spins, good luck, also with surender in to heel side 360 as your board goes in front of you kinda turn/roll so your looking straight down to the road this will leave you in the position where the board is down the hill from you and your body is ready to do the 360 with the purchase you need on the board, i love this trick too feels so nice and you can do like 5 in a row on a nice steep hill, sublime.. good luck with these i hope it helps piet

After the inspirational slide clinic, which I found was more a chance to see the big moves in the flesh and meet people doing the same thing, I went out stoked yesterday and decided to learn a few moves that have been on my horizon but I've been to lazy to explore.
The first I tried was the flatspin nose grab but I found that I'd get 270'rotation and then me sliding arm would be put under mucho strain and I'd come back around, had to stop after a few to save muscle injury, any hints?
The second was the one handed toeside 360' courtesy of Mark (fts) and its definitly comming along, really about commitment aint it. That will be done next weekend.
The third was the surrender, man what a lovely move, seemed really natural not like the last time I tried it a couple of months ago. I think its just cos me upper body is more solid now, arm strength is increased loads. What I found tho is when I bring the board round in a counter clockwise rotation into a mecca(coleman with free hand down on left as well) all I could do is hit that and then pendulum the board back under. I wanted to enter a sorta heelside 3 which I start in the mecca but I really couldnt twist my body.. Its annoying coz i cant really see what the problem is.. Next time eh. The surrender is wicked tho apart from the major slide glove eatage!

i took a screwdriver to the pack of my UHMW and roughed it up a lot, if this s#@! keeps falling off i'll try some sandpaper out. i got my UHMW from a supplier called "mcmaster carr", just go to mcmaster.com and search for UHMW. 24x12 inch sheet, .375" thick for like $20.

if your adhesive is not sticking, sand down the top of the cutting board to rough it up. the top plastic coating is slick, and will not hold well. take a piece of 100 grit paper and rough up the plastic first!

automotive goop on both surfaces spread evenly with plastic spatula using non-leather garden gloves both from ace hardware do not follow instructions about waiting, but glue right away and give at least 12 hours i wait a day
perfect results every time
also cut polyethylene with saw first in rectangle or square and then go back to shape corners or thumb cutouts

my first pair of gloves were heavy duty work gloves with plastic cutting board melted on to them like how faltownskateboards says to do it but the wrist and thumb wore out so i made new ones with a piece of plastic on the thumb and wrist and they work great

these leather gloves felt so nice i just brought them up to the register and bought them, i didn't know they'd be $15...i expected around $8-10. now i'm upset because the glue residue on them prevents me from reusing them, atleast with glue. i'm not upset with spending $20 on UHMW-PE or $15 on a pair of gloves, honestly i love the UHMW and the gloves fit like, well...a glove. i'm upset cause the 3rd piece of my sliding gloves, the adhesive between the 2 other parts fails to live up to the quality of the others. i'll look into doing rivets through the glove, thanks for that suggestion. i don't really have anything to heat the plastic up with, so i don't know if thats an option. thanks for the suggestions though.
