I've noticed that when doing colemans my back foot points out (pronation?) and I can't do nothing to correct it. I'm now wondering if this is wrong and if that's why my knee hurts. One of the reasons lately I've been switching to "Sergio" slides (as seen on the faltown site)

Olson was at Mount Shasta, Calif., last spring, and he found a hill worthy of his longboard. He cruised 10 miles downhill from a sno-park to the town of Mount Shasta.
"It was pretty scary," he recalls. "It was a steep road, and you had to keep turning and controlling your speed.
"This sport is addicting. When you're done, you look back at the hill and you're pretty happy you made it. You feel relieved."

Plz keep note that the name Panton is my alias name. dont belive me? Heres stevan pantons Drivers license # 7307490 if you look it up you will see my real name Stevan L. Hemingway Up in smoke, Hot Sport picks up Speed. Downhill skateboarding lures locals looking for a surge of adrenaline Published: November 5, 2004 By Mark Morical The Bulletin Back in their skateboarding days, Chad Olson and his buddies loved to smoke. No, not cigarettes or the like. They smoked skateboard wheels. As they reached speeds of greater than 50 mph, smoke would literally fly from their melting wheels. "We started videotaping," says Olson, who lives in Bend. "We got some killer footage." Olson, 34, quit downhill skateboarding about three years ago. He never had a serious accident, but he does not deny that it can be a dangerous activity. "It's a little risky, I guess," Olson says. "When I was younger, I didn't care about getting hurt that much." Downhill skateboarding may evoke images of a bunch of crazy dudes weary of ramps and rails and deciding to bomb (hurtle) down hills on their boards. But there's more to the sport than that. The Northern California Downhill Skateboarding Association actually holds races and lists information on disciplines such as slalom, speedboarding and street luge on its Web site (www.ncdsa.com). Stevan Panton of Bend fancies himself a "gravity skateboarder," specializing in sliding and stopping from high speeds. Panton, 20, says he hopes to start a downhill skateboarding league in Central Oregon soon. He frequents the street hills in west Bend, perfecting his sliding stop technique. At the end of a long downhill in a westside neighborhood, Panton, in a low crouch, leans back, dragging his snowboard-gloved hand, and the board sharply rotates back 180 degrees. The board then rotates forward 180 degrees and comes to a complete stop. Panton — who always wears a helmet — says a boarder must be going at a speed of at least 30 mph for the stopping technique to work. "It feels like you're free falling at first when you rotate backward," Panton says. "When you go forward, it feels like you're taking off to the moon on a rocket. I wake up incredibly sore sometimes. I guess it's all that G-force." Panton has had his board traveling as fast as 56 mph, noting that the world speed record is 66 mph. "I'm trying to break the world speed record," he says, "and I want to use that stop." Panton says he's endured three high-speed crashes in his 13 years of skateboarding. In his first one, he recounts, he hit a speed bump, was knocked unconscious and suffered a slight case of amnesia — but he wasn't downhilling, he was just returning a video. His second mishap involved his snowboarding glove getting caught in his wheel. He crashed hard but suffered no injuries. In his latest accident, Panton was being pulled by a car traveling about 35 mph and he was thrown into a wobble and the board flew out from under his feet. He wound up with a bruised hip. Despite his accidents, Panton says he's seldom worried about injuries. "That's the last thing on my mind when I'm doing this," he says. "In 13 years I've never really hurt myself that badly. If I have to stop, I know I can stop right away." Panton began skateboarding when he was 8, after witnessing his father break his neck on a mountain bike. "I just put down my skis and bikes and picked up a skateboard and snowboard," Panton recalls. "Anything facing forward I dropped. Don't ask me why." Panton uses a long Gravity-brand board made for carving and downhill. His wheels are Kryptonics, and they quickly become almost cone-shaped from wear after just a few of Panton's sliding stops. He tightens the trucks to prevent high-speed wobble. Boards and equipment have evolved dramatically since the early 1990s, when Olson's friend came up with the idea to put trucks and wheels on a water ski. It was a makeshift setup, but it worked for bombing hills. "I was never a good ramp rider," Olson says, "but I was confident just going straight." Olson used a much different stopping technique from the one employed by Panton. Olson would stop by dragging his foot on the road. "A lot of guys just put their foot down," Olson says. "It seems sketchy, but it's really not too bad. We tried to find all the hills we could straight-line and not die." Olson and his friends would have someone drive a car alongside them to measure their speed. The fastest boarder topped out at about 60 mph, according to Olson. Reminiscing about his days of downhilling makes Olson — who works construction — want to make a new board and go find some hills to bomb. "I probably would if I had some friends get back into it," he says. "I think about it every time I'm driving on one of the hills we used to skate." countinued-----------

Look, I am not full of it. Need Proof? November 5th I set a new world record. There was no record for Shortest High speed stop on a skate board. At 56mph-14/yrds stop. Which i might add that the only reason i did it was to show the Brazilian bonzi team that there 15 year old stop method that they were keeping a secret just for the olympics, is no secret to me i have 14 years of EXP. They did this so that when the world sees it in the games other countrys would have 3 years to train a team when the bonzi team had 15 years of EXP. Well 14 years ago after i took the gold medal at the junior olympics for downhill skieing and my dad made the U.S. ski team, that summer i watched him break his neck and dreams. I never sat on a bike or skies again. Now, want the most real proof you can get? the Brazilians woundered why they never set the record i did. So for about 8 months now they have been Training to take there 40mph gravitation stops to speeds past mine on record. Now heres the proof: Keep an eye on my record cuz 8-12 hours after the brazilians break my 56mph-14/yrds Gravitational stop, I am going to re-take my record, Break and make the high speed record (66mph) meaningless. I have the people money and resources to do so.

Hemingway is crazy but hes not lieing about gravitational stoping. Infact he is giveing away top of line gear to people that respond to his ads. NCDSA could learn alot from Stevan. I retired 3 years ago untill I met Stevan. Now I ride on his team. You people should be asking questions, talking about stoping methods that get people killed. Stevan is now throwing away 10's of thousends of dallors to show people how to manipulate gravity. Gravitational skateboarding is the first skateboarding sport ever in the Olympics. With under 80 people in the world that do what he does. If one other country in the world can teach a team were golden. So dont throw this knowledge away cuz Stevan cant write his second language tip top tits like you guys.

on the matter of slide wheels if you want the best slide wheel it will be as big as you can get it eg: 60mm or bigger range and reletivly slim to give less grip as hard as you can get, serriously as hard as you can get for ease of sliding but if you are doing like fast corners and long runs which you want to pritty much bomb you may want softer wheels for a bit more bite in the corners but for slideing they should be hard, then they should have double concave eg: the edges of the wheels should not be square like cambreas, and thats prity much it if you get hard concaved thin big wheels then you will get smooth long sweet as controlable sick slides, recomendations are first and formost the deathbox pipesmokers 101a 66mm (i think) very good and i heared that there is an even bigger wheel from them thats just as hard, then you got like sergio sliders and alike but these have been know to flat spot easily and are quite difficult to get rid of the flat spots but still are class wheels. but yeah hope this helps let me know which ones you choose! cheers piet

... screws! Just make sure to pre-drill the hole and snip off the end of the screw if it protrudes past the sliding puck or it will end up behaving like a soccer cleat and dig in to the pavement (unpleasant). As the puck wears down, the tip of the metal screw will become exposed but that shouldn't be a problem. On the contrary, the metal should produce an occasional spark and a dazzeling effect (at night).

velcro has worked for me for a while no issues yet try to find the non stick back version in a sheet insted of the strips i use rubber cement to glue UHMW and the pricky side of the velcro...works sweet on the other i use a glue by 3M called 5200 slow cure....there are fast cures and some 4200 stuff but the 5200 slow works the best....needs a week of dryin thow the other solution is to go see a cobler(shoe shop) with a needle nose sewing machine and get the fury side double stiched with kevlar thread or some such thing

Living in Boulder, CO I am right next to some of the best mountain runs in the country. I love the longer canyon runs that go on for miles but problems can arise when I need to stop (traffic, deer, etc.). I board with slide gloves but on my high speed mountain runs I carry a plactic water/gatorade bottle in my back pocket. If I'm going too fast to slide it out I crouch, plant the bottle on the road and grind it as a brake until my speed comes down closer to 20 where I can slide out without worry. This method has worked great for me and has opened up runs without run outs.

I cant help to notice people talking about they most dangoris way to stop. and it is ruining Gravitational Skate Boarding. The Gravitation stop is the safest most effective way to stop. heres why its so safe: Listen if drop an Apple the laws of Phsyics always send that apple to ground right? Never seen one float yet. this stop works on the laws of phsyics, alls you do is engage the 190 spin and enjoy the ride. Are any of you aware of Retromotion? You ever see a car tire spinning one way then it looks like it starts spinning backwards? Thats Retromotion, this phenomonon happens when something spinning with mass creating a gravitational field, when this gyro is spinning faster than the planet Earth Mass. Accelerated in a rotation is the Gyro effect, its gravity. The Skate wheel is very small and very heavy in mass. This is also how trick skater do all the things they can like ollie higher than a human has jumped. When this gyro is spinning faster than the planet Earth it is defying earths gravity but scince i dont weigh as much as earth, earth's gyro pulls my skate boards gyro. The Gravitation stop is mother natures brakes and they are much more effective than any brakes Man has built or will build. Dispite your cruise speed this powerfull manipulation of the gravitational field stops you at a incredable speed of 8.6 meters a second. SHoes people are man made brakes falls in the top 3 most deadly way to stop on a skate. I am the real deal look in guiness book of records and wait for the bonzi team to brake my 56mph 18 feet stop that they have been prepareing for for 8 months now. And 8 hours later i am retaken my record and killing off the world speed record at the same time. I am the Tony Hawk of the newest most bad ass skateboard sport that involves the sickest most twisted most WTF was that trick. In America i have been holding a tittle: 5-time 5-state wide, 9 years undefeated Champion. I am now hooking people up with top of the line boards to learn and or help seperate Grav skateing from Longboarding in the GOV. eyes. These boards are nothing to board Bellatrix System and Stanford Universtity are building for me. I garantee its the most inovative skate board ever, and is also opening a new window in technolgy for us. dont get hyped these boards will be priced from $10,000-$50,000 they involve some very surreal technology that till now was only used to shift sattlites dirrection of movement in our orbit wave. There is a Prototype done that will be demos for 12 hours only now.

does the velcro adhesive stick to the polyethylene backing easily? does it stay strong? also, how did you attach the velcro onto your glove? i was thinking about velcro for a while, but was kind of deterred when i realized i like gloves with individual finger pieces for comfort. having the UHMW attached to the glove with that small a piece of velcro doesn't seem like it would stay on in a hard slide.

I graduated from messy glues several years ago and instead use velcro. My last couple pairs of gloves I have used stick-back velcro in about a 3/4" strip that I wrap all the way around the glove so there is little chance it will peel off. I put the other part on the plastic and I have only rarely had the plastic puck dettach. I am still gluing on my finger tips, or just re-enforcing with layers of 1"x1" pieces of duct tape. When the plastic wears out, just put more velcro on the back of a new puck and re-attach to the glove. Have a look at the NPR story Cliff Coleman and Jim Cluggish just did. There is a picture showing this type of homemade glove technology.
Or get 1 hour epoxy from the hardware store, or endure the drying time of 24 hour epoxy, but consider sticky back velcro since it doesn't need to dry and doesn't run.
