i was wandering what everyone’s favorite slide was? and where your level is at, and how trying and learning new slides is going? i was out last night trying Sergio’s going in to them from standing and was just wandering what all you guys where trying. would be glad to advise on some slides like the pressure spins and slingshots ect (the ones that need a bit more commitment) or whatever.

why is sergio not competing???? this is something that just dose not make sense, yeah he's good very good but that is not to say he is beyond competing there are people who could give him a run for his money. i am not saying that he is not as good as his rep implies i am just saying it would be 10 times better to have tha final with the best competing against the best. thats what its all about. am i wrong????? what do you guys think? piet (sorry about spelling)

Gravity Slide Contest

Wow... That's cool... didn't know there was a contest before... I'll have to ring up Bostic.
Cliff, why don't you come down for the weekend. It'll be a blast. Have quite a few guys coming in from out of town for it, and your presence would be cool. Honorary judge?
How was the contest? Was it slopestyle? Did everyone use gloves? I didn't know the wheels were good enough in '78.... that's sweet. We're also having a longest slide contest.... At the one in Brazil, Sergio did a 268 foot slide ..... That's almost a football field. Yikes.
Anyway, we're stoked.... just trying to promote SLIDING more here in the states... it's been underground too long.
Peace,
Michael

Hey everyone, been skating a Sector 9 cosmic 1 for a few yrs an just got into sliding. I live in australia an its sad to say but no one longboards. No one, an the only longboards available in the skate shops r sector 9 and there very limited. When is there going to be a slide comp here to boost this great sport an give me a challenge. The hills in Western Australia r incredible an all my mates r scared to hit 60kph with me. Im in love with the really small old skool slalom boards an thinking of getting a landyachtz, is it possible to hit fast speeds with slalom boards?

Gravity Slide Contest

Gravity said in a post at the below link that their Slide Contest is the first of it's kind?
"Gravity Skateboards and Tracker Trucks are pleased to announce The first ever of it's kind in the US"
It may be the first of Gravity's kind, but it is far from the first Slide Contest held in the US. That took place in 1978 and was pro, moted by Cliff Coleman and Don Bostic. First Place went to Paco Prieto. 2nd to Chris Pettyjohn and 3rd to a female skater named Naomi True.
Some don't care about facts when promoting a Company or product. Just helping to set the historical record straight. If we don't, we forget the shoulders of those who set the standard and still do.
Sincerely, Cliff Coleman

Hey Jared, if my calendar is correct that is a Thursday so I won't be able to make it. You should try talking to Dan at sflongboarding.com, he lives in SF and knows a lot of the road. He's super chill and showed me around when I was looking for people to skate with. I hope you enjoy our fair city (well I don't actually live in SF, but you know what I mean). You can also meet the peeps at Purple Skunk on 21st and Geary if you are so inclined (Flowlab is here too and Freebord). Good luck!

GI - of course switch still counts when the slide is more than 360 - its the way you go into it that determines whether its switch or not ie a switch 540 you would come out normal, whereas a regular 540 you would come out switch.

Sergio was video taped on the steepest hill in Sheffield England doing a 1980% standup slide. The tape had to be reviewed to see just how many times he rotated. That's 5.5 times around without any hesitation. Just smooth spins! It will be on the "Lush" video when it comes out.

Any slide that covers more than 360 degrees makes the "switch" factor irrelevant.

Hey ya'll, been riding a new set up lately which consists of a landyachtz dh race, 97mm flywheels (78a), randal Down hill trucks. I also got a team 36 by gravity and i know decently how to get it around. I am having a real hard time getting the Landyachtz to go the way i want it though. Is it cuz of the soft wheels? my weight (120 lbs), the board? I donno, but it's really quite annoying not being able to lay down pendulums. I am considering about pickin up a Comet Voodoo cuz it's much lighter and smaller for my 5"7 120 frame... need some help. Cheers from Philly, Pa, but missing my home in Nor Cal.

Video for Dave

There are two basic techniques: footbraking and sliding. Footbraking is taking your push foot off the board and dragging it on the road in front of you (carefully bracing you body to push against the friction). You basically need to footbrake well in advanced to make sure you never go too fast... because it is sketchy to try and footbrake when you are already going faster than you are comfortable.... some people grab onto both sides of the board help them get more pressure on the braking foot (I've never tried this). As always practice at very slow speeds and work your way up.
For sliding, there is a lot of info... (try searching for it). But for the basics, check out the following video as the first 5 minute has footage of a sliding clinic with instructions on foot/body positions for a basic slide.

Hey everyone. Im kinda a new long boarder and recently was cruisin downa fairly large hill (probably too large for my skills) but I got too much speed, got the wobbles and bailed hard. I got some serious road rash and was jsut wondering the best way to stop or slow down (i tried going side to side but was going too fast). Ive seen lots of guys being able to do board slides and stuff. How do those work?? Is that the best way to do it? Any info in general would help guys and girls. Thanks New Boarder

Hi Chris, i've set an old board up that i didn't mind bashing up a bit, its 38" x 8" single kick at the back, flat, i kept the trucks as they were at 19 3/4" bolt to bolt, 150mm venture trucks and my funny shape flashbacks. Am i on the right track or am i making things hard for myself? I've only just started and have alot to learn, but i've got to learn to do something other than running off my board as i'm riding faster than a year or so ago!! Thanks for your help, Munchh

Where do i start, i'm supposing a slide of some sort?
Anyone got vids?
Cheers, Munchh.
