YAh um,
I'm getting into sliding I'v got the wheels and trucks for it and can do some pritty basic slides such as the colman and the power slide, but I am wanting to get into a little more advanced sliding. At the moment I am really into downhill riding, I ride with my dh racer, and can do basic slides but would like to know what type of deck I should get for strictly sliding.

stand-up slides
On 5/29/2006 purplekhanabooze wrote in from United States  (71.198.nnn.nnn)

So I ride a Comet 42" with 84 duro wheels.

I've been attempting to slide these past few days. I started with the coleman dropped my right back hand and pulling the board up with my left, sliding over to my right. (I ride goofy) I can only do this at low speeds.

Then I tried the powerslide, which I couldn't do to well. What I did get good at was making the back of my board slide out. I can transfer most of my weight to the front of my board while kicking the back out with my left. Then I experimented some more and was able to make it slide with both feet on the left edge. By putting almost all of my weight there, and then extending my back left over and out, the back of the board slides that way.

So I want some tips and pointers. Am I doing anything right? Am I doing anything wrong? Any suggestions? My problem with the coleman slide is that if im going to fast I lose the board, fall off or can't get back on. Any tips?

check out ranyelongboards.com, i highly recommend the agent dahl board as a slider. but in reality you can use any board to slide. what really matters are your wheels. and your skills. and i highly recommend the agent dahl board to help develope those skills. highly.

Thanks for the tips. I will definitely invest in some protection until I get the hang of some new skills. I just moved to Reno, and for the first time, I'm not the only longboarder in town. I'm kind of learning by watching other boarders on campus (and from some very scientific research on google). I actually learned about sliding from some elitist who was picking on my s9 when I rolled into class with it. Its been fine for my purposes, but what would I know about other longboards?

Oh yeah, how much do you want for your Flashback 88s?

Thanks again...

Sizes
On 4/22/2006 Steve wrote in from United Kingdom  (81.106.nnn.nnn)

Hey guys i've been looking at this forum for awhile, as im looking for a sliding deck. I've already got a land yautz DH race deck but that kitted out with soft wheels and downhill trucks so its very hard to slide on :P. Can you guys tell me what is the best size for a sliding deck? I've found the 32" Slding deck at -http://www.faltownskateboards.com/faltownskateboards_completes_details.asp?ProductID=29
or the 38" Globe deck -http://www.lushlongboards.com/06-content.php?cat=boards&subcat=GLOBE_SERIES&page=38
what you guys reckon? whats best and also please tell me about any better decks for sliding and if u can be botherd what trucks and wheels i should have. (Although i think im ok on getting wheels bu ti dunno about trucks.)

Thanks :P

Stopping for Haley

Yea, jumping off is about the worse thing to do when you get speed wobbles (well getting completely thrown off is worse).

I looked up the Cosmic I on the S9 website, it looks like it comes iwth 78a wheels. You *can* slide on them... but they are probably not the best to learn will... see if get something cheaper in the mid/high 80 range like solid blue or green Krytpo. (I actually have some used 88a Flashbacks if you want them). For gloves I personally really like the TimeShip Bearpaws (available at timeshipracing.com or milehighskates.com) although the Lush V2 look really nice as well... the benefit of the bearpaws is that they protect you from road-rash really well and you can wear wristguards underneath (I wore pro-designed).

How do get back on the horse... pad up! Helmet with jaw shield, knee pads, slider gloves... next time you get wobbles... crouch low (you should be anyways) onto the board and dismount low on your hands and knees and slide it out.

Sliding on a Cosmic
On 4/20/2006 Haley wrote in from United States  (71.9.nnn.nnn)

I've been longboarding for a year and half and am ready to quit eating it from bailing board everytime some minivan doesn't see me... I want to slide. I ride the S9 Cosmic I... everything stock.

Which wheels and gloves would you experts recommend for starters? Should I just keep this board for cruising and get another setup completely for learning to slide on?

I ate it pretty hard recently after getting the speed wobbles and jumping off... concussion, broken teeth, some very cool scars... Any tricks to growing my proverbial balls back? Or is is just about getting back on the horse? (I'm scared that I'll kill myself if I try to slide... I'm a clutz, but I'm committed)

Yo reed, you answered your own q, really. Its gonna have softerwheels so hit the slide 'fast' and hard, make sure your nicely stretched out and theres no chance of the wheels biting mid slide an you flyin over the top of it.

Just go faster an faster an corner harder an harder coleman style and you'll feel it driftin, a little more an your sliding. Its like sayin how do I ollie this bigger board? you just got to hit that ollie harder an bigger. Easy brau

deck?
On 4/15/2006 imwithmaniac wrote in from United States  (69.230.nnn.nnn)

reed, i was just wondering what kind of setup you have, is the drop deck you are using a drup through, or just mounted on the nose & tail, like the landyachtz dh board? if its a drop through, that would be pritty hard, because the decks are usually flat, but if it was like the dh, try putting your back foot on the slant before the trucks to put more pressure on the board to initiate the slide then just slide like you would on a normal deck... hope that helps...
