hey freak, try leaning forward slightly more, almost turning into the slide, and tuck your back knee closer to your board with your rear foot slanted on the tail. ROCK IT.

Big Beast: no grabbing

After a few hours training it works. All you need is a little more speed and chuzpe. I can do a Coleman on the flat.

Big Beast: rail grabbing or not
On 8/11/2006 Derik wrote in from Germany  (193.7.nnn.nnn)

I ride a 57 Ed Economy since a few weeks now. Stopping this heavy beast with a slide gives me some problems. I can only slide the rear out when I grab the rail and throw all my weight into the carve.
(I can slide all my shorter boards without grabbing.)
The guys at Faltown and Silverfish stronly advise against grabbing the rail.
How do you guys do it? Any suggestions?
(I just want to slide it for an emergency stop - I run pink powerballs/Holeys)

Freak can't pengulum
On 8/11/2006 Derik wrote in from Germany  (193.7.nnn.nnn)

I guess you are not fast enough. Above a certain speed it feels that my Wheels glide above the tarmac. As long as the board is fast, all movements are easy. And as soon as the board slows down it will grip again or come to a full stop. Look at google under "coleman_thrasher.jpg". You will find a good description. At the faltownskateboards website are a lot of nice litte videos in the slide skool section. Just practice, you will make it!

You can sometimes slide the flatspots away with a few controlled 180s.

flatspot
On 7/31/2006 Mark wrote in from United States  (71.107.nnn.nnn)

I'd venture to guess that going to the harder duro like you did and keeping more of your weight on your hands would greatly decrease the flatspotting. The less weight on your wheels the less likely they're going to flatspot. It seems hard at first. But like anything else you'll find that it gets easier and you'll be able to pull off more moves.

p.s. i ride a 47" sector nine bomber with randall 180's if that is important

US Shipping
On 6/23/2006 Chris wrote in from United Kingdom  (84.12.nnn.nnn)

Hey Mike,

If you wanna deck off us then you can email us with what you want and we'll sort you out with a decent shipping price. We will actually be in the states at proper US prices soon so we can be competetive with other US brands!!!! we are talking to thelongboardstore.com at the mo who are very keen on importing our decks to the US so they will be available but at quite a high price. But if you wait then you'll be able to get our decks at what you would expect to pay for a Gravity for example. We realise that despite our popularity we still wanna give you guys the best possible deal. Hence our efforts to get our prices down to more like US prices. You'll also be able to order directly from us too!

Keep Rollin,

Chris

Slide Deck
On 6/23/2006 Uk slider wrote in from United Kingdom  (84.12.nnn.nnn)

The Faltown deck has been designed specifically for sliding. You can do all the stand up s#@! on it too. Its agile enough for speed checks and power slides but has enough length and wheel base to be really stable at speed. Ive taken their slide deck well into the mid 30's and is solid as a rock. If you wanna go any faster sliding then get their 3.3 Still nice and wide but 4" longer and super stable. Comes with holey trucks and Gravity Super G's.

If what u wanna do is slide and add to your quiver why just buy another 30"+ board?

Peace

I reckon if you give faltown a ring or mail them direct they could send a deck out to you - obviously they would charge shipping - but its worth a try!
Im thinking of buying the pool 3.1 it looks super sweet. My crew ride the 3.2

Slide kit
On 6/7/2006 RanDom wrote in from United Kingdom  (82.152.nnn.nnn)

It is true that you can slide on any wheel and deck, but it is also true that you can race a rikshaw against a ferrari. There are wheels and decks out there that will make it eisier to slide and also aid your progression onto more technical slides.
Wheel size; ideal size is between 60 and 70mm so you can get good speed but not so big that they take ages to get up to speed.
Wheel Hardness; 90a to 100a is good. the softer it is the more suited it is to colemans and high speed stuff were you dont want it slipping out unexpectedly. If you want to do multi rotations and flatspins your gonna need to go harder as you want as little resistance as possible. Softer wheels are great for cornering. I started on the old Cliff sliders from gravity, i found that they were a little to big but at 94a they were a really good beginer wheel, as i've progressed i've moved down to 59mm bullets at 100a (vert wheels) there great for multi spins and stand up 360's, check Mark Short at faltownskateboards.com he rides em to.
Deck; Concave is your friend as there is a lot of sideways pressure proper grip aswell, as KYLE said not that other crap, it don't work.
Size; 36" X 8.5-9" seems to be the size of choice for all the top sliders. The shorter the wheel base the quicker it will snap round, the longer the wheel base the more stable it will be.
It's Horses for Courses etc; work out what is comfortable for you, as you get better you'll find that your choice of equipment will probably change, as I've started skatin more parks I feel more comfortable on a basic vert board (33 X 8)so i slide on that nowadays.
Go do It!!!! DOM

dude, you don't need a special deck to slide. if it can grip your feet, if the wheels can slide, you don't need anything new. although that may be true, a concave deck with actual grip tape(not that see-through-comes-on-the-board crap)and some nice little curved hard wheels slides pretty well. but to be able to slide, you give up some other benefeits like cruising and wheel-grip. My board is a '77 Alva re-issue (non-concave)with some wide 85a(pretty soft) powell-peralta re-issues and i can slide just fine and still cruise like a longboard.
