wheels for sliding
On 11/5/2006 cam wrote in from Australia  (220.233.nnn.nnn)

i am new to sliding, i like sliding in the rain because i dont get hurt when i fall and i slide really far. anyway at the moment im just using my old street board, the wheels are already stuffed up. i am considering buying a new board for sliding and some park riding, so it must be versatile. what trucks should i buy??? what wheels should i buy??? i have already considered retro invertz, bones mini cubics, 60mm abec 11 noskoolz, and gravity super sliders.. any help is much appreciated.

Lamdun,

I like to cruise for miles everyday. I too use a softer wheel for this. I like the Seismic Sped Vents that are out now. I put the 83 duros in the back and I have 79s up front. the 78s that you ride can slide, but need to be broken in first! Soft wheels need the shine worn off before they become predictable. They are very grippy at first. Once the shine is worn off of all four wheels, you then can use something in the range between 78 and about 85 as a good cruising wheel that you can still slide with.

As for learning slide techniques, go to cliffslider.com. Then click on Articles. Then click on the image of the article to enlarge it where it becomes readable. Then print it out and give it to friends. Keep a copy for yourself and read it. Get back to me if this doesn't help.

Sliding to stop
On 10/30/2006 Lamdun wrote in from United States  (128.12.nnn.nnn)

I have a Landy Drop Carve with krpto 76mm 78a wheels. I'm ready to start bombing/carving some steeper hills and need a way to stop in emergency situations. I've been wanting to start practicing some sliding but i dont know if my wheels are okay. Keep in mind that I am not planning to do any long slides and probably not even planning to get back up on the board after a slide. Just to come to a complete stop when the time arises. Are my wheels okay for that? Also, if i slide occasionally on soft wheels, do i run a big risk of getting flatspots?

I mainly use my board for cruising so if i do get harder wheels, any recommendations for wheels that are both okay for smooth cruising and sliding?

Thanks

Did he have gloves and whatnot or was he just doing standup slides?
Last time i've seen hawk doing slides was in the SF section of animal chin
could do some interesting things for sliding if it is indeed a TV spot and he's doing hands down slides
verrry interesting

So i need a new pair of sliding gloves. and this time instead of making them i want to purchase them. I am looking at TimeShip Racing. I love their Tracers, but I am wondering whether the "All Beef" are worth the extra money? If anyone has any info on these I would greatly appreciate it. thanks!

Newb Longboarder
On 9/11/2006 James wrote in from Canada  (205.206.nnn.nnn)

So I'm new to longboarding, went to the local sk8 shop and bought a speed demon complete. It's the 40" one with blue flames. I've been reading up on slide stopping and not sure how its going to go for me. I ride goofy and am very uncomfortable regular. (underlines very) By the sounds of it these wheels will be horrible for learning. They are 69mm and and I have no clue how hard/soft they are. I have yet to buy the gloves but thought I'd read up the basics first. Any tips or ideas?
