slide gloves
On 4/5/2001 A. lurker wrote in from (209.240.nnn.nnn)

I have more tools than a lot of people, and I have found that trying to make slide gloves is really a pain. Seems to me if some one could manufacture these with velcro attached sliding surfaces, there would have to be a market. I'm sure there are alot of talented young skaters that don't have the access to the tools necessary to make stuff like this that would gladly pay the price. Not to mention older types without the motivation or tools to make there own.

cutting cutting board
On 3/30/2001 hugh r wrote in from (205.216.nnn.nnn)

Brian,

I use a jig saw with a large toothed wood blade to get close to the size/shape that I want. Then I sand it to exact size with either a disk/belt, sanding block, or file... HR

Cutting Rails
On 3/30/2001 Brian wrote in from (64.12.nnn.nnn)

Does anyone have any tips on cutting polyethylene. I'm pretty certain this is the material used in cutting boards. More specifically, I'm interested in the type of saw to use to cut fairly clean rails without lots of jagged edges.

RE: lappers
On 3/23/2001 paul wrote in from (195.92.nnn.nnn)

thanks for the explanation roger, I can get a better picture of how this would work now, thanks a lot, sounds like it could be real useful, & once you got the timing right you could probably get a real large board up the kerbs, thats neat, I tried to do a manual up a kerb and thought i might be able to reach the front of the board in time, but was wrong and the back truck caught on the kerb hehe. catch u later...paul (uk)

lappers?
On 3/22/2001 roger wrote in from (198.206.nnn.nnn)

Paul, imagine drilling a small hole in the middle of the board (closer to the back truck), bolt a 1" wide steel bar to it and the other end to the king pin of the back truck. This forms a ramp under the board. To get up curbs just lift the front wheels over then unweight the back as the ramp scrapes up the curb. Later there was a plastic product that covered the part of the truck that would slap on to the curb and had a small ramp. I think this is what you are talking about.

Lappers how do they do what they do
On 3/22/2001 paul wrote in from (195.92.nnn.nnn)

Hi read in the archives about lappers, that fix to your trucks mountings to help you get up kerbs, how do they do this? I find it a bit difficult to try and wheelie my 47" deck up kerbs, back trucks always get stuck as I cant reach the front of the board well enough to pop the back up, apparently lappers enabl this? soundz cool but how

clear grip
On 3/21/2001 roger wrote in from (198.206.nnn.nnn)

Pepe,
Clear grip tape is not milky, but does get dirty. It's clear enough to see wood and pictures, but not clear enough to read a magazine article through (if that makes sense). On some decks it looks cool, especially vlams.

W I D E black grip
On 3/19/2001 DanG wrote in from (141.150.nnn.nnn)

hmmm..now that check solidskate again they only have 9" tape. I could have sworn that it was 12 but, oh well. I don't think anyone sells griptape thats 12 inches, try looking for noslip tread. It's the same stuff and someone must sell it 12" wide.

video capture card
On 3/14/2001 hugh r wrote in from (205.216.nnn.nnn)

Fred,

I ended up getting the Pinnacle DC10+ from videoguys.com The threw in an extra 10% off for ordering on the web.

Took a little work to install it though. The drivers are "hidden" on the install disk and were a hassle to find! But once I did, the card installed easily and was very able and willing to share/swap IRQ's (thankfully!!)\

Card seems to work just fine. I am able to get it to capture video but I'm still learning to use the software. I could really use a "dummies" book. I'm having my teenage son figure it out for me first!

For $89 this card is a killer deal... sure appericiate your taking the time to reccommend it. Thanks again...

I'll bring a camera on saturday and try to get some good footage. Then if I can figure out this crazy software I will put it onto some disks/tapes... HR

Crooks
On 3/10/2001 Johnny wrote in from (152.163.nnn.nnn)

Has anyone ever heard of Crooks? I was down at the beach the other day and ran into a couple of dudes on longboards. I rapped with them for a while and it turns out they are starting this Crooks thing and making longboard rails. They were totally cool and ended up hooking me up on a set of rails for my Sector 9 Zepellin. I thought this was the least I could do to thank them. I'm going to set up my board today and keep you guys posted on how they work out. Keep on cruising, brothers and sisters, peace out

video capture cards for hugh
On 3/6/2001 Fred D. wrote in from (38.37.nnn.nnn)

Hugh,

There's not too many options left in inexepensive analog video capture (everything is DV now), but www.videoguys.com has two choices which will do what you need and are in your price range. The first is the Pinnacle DC10+, and you need a free slot in your computer for this one. It costs $99 bones - I had one of these a few years ago and I think it will do what you want. One problem might be that installing these things can be a little hairy and annoying. Another option is the Dazzle DVC USB at $149 I think. I've never used this one, but it is USB so installation should be easier and video quality should be as good as the other one. You might want to email the guys at videoguys.com, I've done a lot of business with them and they will really help you out. Good luck.

Fred D.
