Thanks to Lush, Dom, Darren, Jonny, Shiner, all the Faltown crew and all the riders, but particularly to Cliff, for his great patience, persistence and encouragement, (for making me do 25 squats!) and finally getting me sliding. Just wanted to thank Dom, Cliff, Sergio and everyone else who was at the Falmouth Slide Clinic for making it such a great weekend.
I was really nervous skating in front of everyone,but you were all really encouraging. Got some mad photos of you all, will get them posted soon.
Also thanks to Mark for teaching me toeside 360's, I will have them nailed by the weekend !

Cliff or anyone else who can answer this, i am trying to lay my back foot down when i slide cause i see everyone else doing it, is it so i can stand back up on the board again or what, i slide with me feet flat footed and have a problem with the board coming around in a 180, i have yet to consistantly bring it back, any ideas or excercises i could try, i have gloves and normally push my way back up to a straight up position but that is killing my hands and speed, also are there any abec11 wheels out there in a high durometer, i slide with gumballs but they are like 76s. any tips ideas etc would be much appreciated

What I was thinking about when I mentioned the puck, was that you had remarked in one of these forums that you were using TSR Bear Paws, and I think they have a puck square in the center of the glove and a strip across the fingers, which look like it would let you grab the board while wearing the glove. I have one large puck, cut where the thumb would be. I arrived at this after trying countless shapes that as you noted grabbed part of the street or had sharp edges that caught whenever I put it down, but my current puck shape doesn't allow me to grab the board. If I were to do my slide correctly, could I get by with just a puck in the center of the glove or do you prefer having a strip across the top of the fingers.
Also, I noticed in several videos how you control your speed with your slide, while many other slides I see being done, the skater keeps going down the hill at pretty good speed, like Sergio for example, the sliders in the Gravity Flow video, and the sliders on the Falmouth video. Although all the great kinds of slides seem like the ultimate fun, I am, in the beginning, learning to slide so I have control on the steep hills and at speed. So I am confused as to what to expect when I succeed in sliding at speed.

Try wheels in the range from 90 to 95 durometer. The 36 would be my choice of the two you mentioned. Although, if you are 6'4+ then the 40 would be the one. The puck shouldn't have sharp edges. They can catch on road objects and can also scratch you or others. Now, about your trucks. Ride them about as tight as you would normally do.

When in a slide, placing both hands on the ground will only put you off the side of the board and make it harder to get back above your deck when exiting the slide. Reach in the direction of the slide with your free hand. That would be your left hand for goofy footers. Roll both knees forward, also in the direction of the slide. Keep the hand on the ground close to your body and don't lay back. Instead, keep your chest right on top of the front thigh. This will keep yuou closer to the deck and make the effort to get back up easier.
I'm teaching the same things to skaters here in the UK, at the moment. We were hanging out at the English Channel, in Falmouth, Cornwall today. We've had six days of weather in the mid to upper 70s and into the low 80s.

Just curious: Do you recommend any particular wheels or durometor of wheel for new sliders taking your slide workshop. And do you prefer a lighter setup for learning slides, like a standard 36" as say compared to a heavy 11 ply 40" board, and do you prefer a puck configuration or shape for the slide gloves, again for persons in your workshop or learning to slide, and one more question: when learning to slide, how loose should the trucks be?

I have been practicing quite a bit with Coleman and toeside slides, and I am actually getting pretty good slides (can get the board to "pendulum", can stop from fairly fast speeds downhill, etc). I have Gravity Sliders 94a's to do the dirty work. The problem I am having is popping myself back upright and down the hill. I can layback the slide and really get parallel with the tarmac, but getting myself back into riding position is not going well. I am goofy foot, and when Coleman sliding, I am actually bringing my left, free arm across my body and onto the ground next to my right, uphill hand. I know that the preferred form is to have the free hand above the head pointing back up the hill a bit, but I am finding it difficult to slide at speed with just my uphill hand down. So, knowing this, is there any advice for gettng myself back into riding position? I can almost do it, but don't have quite the momentum. Thanks for any help. Also, thanks for the Slide, Cliff. I haven't skated seriously since the 80's, but sliding has brought me back onto the board. ----Jason

The wheels in the photo are Comet at 90a. I think that is right? They are the orange ones.

Gutted i couldn`t skate due to early injury but still it gave me the chance to get some photos and footage which wouldn`t have been done if i was skatin!
As said in a previous post:-"If you havn`t attended a slide clinic yet, get on it!" A great time to hook up with old and new friends, chat skateboarding and slide the days away!
Great to see you again Cliff and i hope the next weekend in Cornwall goes well and a safe journey home to both you and Sergio.

Just finished the first week here in the UK. The people are great, the students have learned to slide and the Peak Districk is beautiful. Who wants to skate in the land of Robin Hood? Make the trip next year. You won't be dissapointed. Now we are off to Bristol for the next week and then on to Cornwall. A big thanks to Lush Longboards, Shiner, Jon Warburton and the crew at Faltown Skateboards!

Thanks all for an awesome day yesterday.It was great to see & learn from cliff again.Sergio sure lived up to expectations;the fact that one of his wheels was almost triangular with flatspot didn't faze him one bit. Great people, great skating/ sliding. Awesome.I cannot recommend these slide clinics enough.If you haven't attended one, try & get on one.It will be worth it.

Just finished the first two days at the Lush Longboard festival. 30+ riders all over the hills in the Peak districk in England. Great people, great times and today the first clinic here in Sheffield.
The weather was beautiful, the riders are having fun and no trips to the hospital. Sergio was blowing minds as usual! He really is incredible. Look for him at future festivals/clinics.
