Why PG-13 and not PG?

"so...i'm still wondering what's in the movie to give it the pg-13 rating. anyone? "

- sexual behavior w/o nudity
- crude behavior

That's the deal.

Shattered Reality
On 6/2/2005 EBasil wrote in from United States  (207.200.nnn.nnn)

Thanks Chaput: the movie's not real. Now, you've ruined it for me.

I hope to hell nobody starts a Santa Claus or Tooth Fairy section on NCDSA, so you can't ruin those for all of us, too! Of course, this would be after somebody pointed out the inaccuracies regarding the presence and chronology of Rudolph...

Ah, to heck with it: I wasn't at Del Mar in '75, so I'm going to repeat whatever I see in the new, super-accurate LODT (it SAYS "based on a true story", right on the screen!) as fact. URBAN LEGENDs, baby!! I'm going to have to watch it a few more times at the theater, of course.

I remember at 15-16ish in 1975-76ish
Concrete Wave Anahiem, Ca. I used to always wear a yellow Infinity (did I spell that right?)t-shirt, grilla gripping over skateboards in the parking lot and writers and camera crew coming up to me saying "what's your name Ed Nad" and I would say no I'm not Ed Nadalin and they would walk away I was clearing 3-4' high. my brother Karl my half hawaiian bro. used to party big time with Ed Nadalin. Karl Use to work at the Power Paw Speed Spring Fact. back in the day smoking the mary-jane, the funny thing is that I came with Ed Nadalin and Russ Howell. the other time was in Huntington Beach Fred Flavell, Russ Howell, Ed Nadalin, Dale Smith, I remember some of the Zepher boys were there and came with Russ Howell and Ed Nadalin, anyhow I was riding up the bank under the pier grilla gripping 180s, 360s and on top of the HB pier grilla gripping over the chains writers and camera crews came again "what's your name Skitch" and the same thing would happened and told them I wasn't that person, they would walk away. I guess I was a nobody!

you higher than both Stacy AND Tony! You mean they tied?

Oh yeah, it was a movie...

The Truth is Boring
On 6/1/2005 Chris Chaput wrote in from United States  (66.116.nnn.nnn)

It's a movie. It's not real. It's not supposed to be real. It's a movie. It's not my movie. It's their movie. If it were my movie, I'd win. But it's not. I don't win. I'm in the movie. But I'm not myself. I pretend to be someone else. It's not real. It's a movie. I'm Russ Howell. Not really. But I am in the movie. It's not real. Russ really won, and he won in the movie. Well, he wasn't in the movie, but his character was. Stacy and Tony didn't tie for first in real life, but they do in the movie. It's not real. Stacy was already a Z-Boy at Del Mar. Not in the movie. You see, there's a screenplay. It's made up. It's a story. It's not real. Just like the movie. I won in Long Beach. In the movie, I don't exist. It's not real. It's a movie.

I have an idea. Let's watch Spinal Tap and talk about how untruthful it was. I was at the Stonehenge Concert in the early 80's, and they didn't use a 5 string bass in the song "Big Bottom". They lied in the movie. Lick My Love Pump was NOT in D minor. I'm going to sue. They lied.

LAUGH - Linux vs Windows forum is MORE Fun !!! :D
On 6/1/2005 Chris Yandall wrote in from United States  (68.224.nnn.nnn)

OK, tampon changed and chill-pill administered :D

I failed at inciting a forum riot. Damn!

Just got back from a good surf down at Mission Beach(2ft chop paddeling pool) along with a 5 mile skog and now prepping for some cement skateboard transitions. For us senior citizens, we're talking vert!

As for the movie, OK. Great action! Much better than Star Warts 3 and much of the other crap that hollywood puts out. Bottom line is, the movie got me off my ass to skate more and bitch a little bit about historical atrocities. It made me hysterical!!!! But alas, writing about it, getting some feedback and airing out helped me render what needed to be rendered. So for all those I offended, please continue taking offense! :P

It also put a hitch in my get-a-long to help get some kind of of skateboarding program that will help the sport into the school systems. I'd like to know who has made inroads on this. There are kids everywhere screaming! "we're tired of FOOTBALL, BASKETBALL AND BASEBALL!" Hook us UP!

Your donations at www.doogood.org, where we are outfitting skateparks with skateboards for underprivileged kids are appreciated... "One Buck for a kid out of luck."

Love to all and all you HATERS :P

Del Mar
On 6/1/2005 Jack Smith wrote in from United States  (207.114.nnn.nnn)

I was at Del Mar in 1975, it was my first contest, only competed in the slalom.

Yes, I was very impressed by some of the slalom racers.

But when I went home to Morro Bay, I told everyone about the scruffy looking kids on the Zephyr team who were doing powerslides and pumping around the freestyle area like madmen.

Chris, I've always had a great deal of respect for you. Heck, I spent hours tring to learn your Samoan Squat! I'm sure everyone who reads this forum has a ton of respect for you. Your contributions to skateboarding are well known by all of us. Thanks for all you've done.

PS- IF Stecyk had worked at Good Clean Fun in Morro Bay, maybe I would have been Tony Alva! Like my basketball coach used to say..."IFis a big word..."IFyour aunt had balls, she'd be your uncle".

LDOT inaccuracies
On 6/1/2005 Steve in AZ...even further from Cali wrote in from United States  (192.175.nnn.nnn)

Hackett & CYandall...and all the rest of that era...were all part of what we can all appreciate & respect. The only reason we have a present skate scene is because we have a past with strong personalities. And thank God some of these guys are still around to set the record straight...to say nothing of still being able to rip me into oblivion on four wheels at the drop of a hat.

Regardless, I'd be interested in hearing from ANY of these guys if they knew of something that was blatantly FALSE. Props to both Dave & Chris for posting the right info. on what really happened. If you read their posts, both Hack & CYa may be ribbin' each other a bit, but don't confuse talkin' some smack with disrespect.

My beef is with the fan-clubbers takin' swipes at either of these guys and then resorting to name-calling to boost their own egos. Do you think even for a minute that Hackett, Yandall, Ruml, Olson, Hester, Adams, Peralta or ANY of our skate legends need ME or ANYONE ELSE that wasn't there to fight their battles?

Besides...This entire forum is dedicated to discuss the freakin' MOVIE, good & bad. Don't slam the legends of our sport for voicing their opinions. Take whatever opportunities you've got to MEET them, LISTEN to them and best of all, SKATE with them. Learn what you can instead of living in ignorance.

Oh, and if you're going to say ANYTHING, for Goddsakes, type it in English. It's hard to look up a word in the dictionary if you misspell it, Tyler.

Look up the words LAMER and Wannabe
On 6/1/2005 Chris Yandall wrote in from United States  (168.253.nnn.nnn)

When you see a movie with inaccuracies, you speak up. Are you from that era?

If not then you should have a nice cup of STFU.

Hypocrite? Only in the eyes of someone who was sh*tting in their diaper while the real skating scene was going down. If you weren't there, go back to wannabe land. cuz thatz where you belong. :D

insecure? am I not here defending the territory that was crapped on?

i'm no pussy. I'm getting my .02 in for all those that are to lame to get on these forums and speak up for themselves while insignicant skate teeny boppers pretend like they know something worth a damn.

I think you should look up the words, LAME and WANNABE while staring into a mirror, then come back and reply.

the movie was great fiction, ok? you wanna debate on fiction fine but it is easy for anyone with an IQ > 0 to see thru the plot to make dogtown appear greater than it was being a farce. It had it's place. When the down south movie comes out, you can rip it apart too. cool?

DT
On 6/1/2005 MG wrote in from United States  (216.52.nnn.nnn)

What the Z-Boys had, along with their own talents and abilities, was Stecyk. Stecyk created a powerful myth of his own. The Dogtowners skating abilities speak for themselves. They could skate. But so could the Southers, the Badlanders, the OC crowd, etc. But they did not have someone with Stecyk's skills mythologizing them. Stecyk has said that he was reacting against the perception that San Diego was the center of the surf/skate world, the magazines and photographers being based there. He wanted to see his homeboys in the mags, and using some of the attitude he picked up from Dora, he made it happen. He created a powerful myth. No one from the Badlands or Down South really accomplished the same thing. Doesn't mean they couldn't skate, it just means Hollywood picked up on Greg Beato's Spin article about DT as an easily packaged myth to sell.

@chris:so peralta was average?

could be true, but he packed the most style in his runs, was the master of so many different slide-variations which have been pulled of fluently and so full of style.that put him above a lot of pros at that time, everybody who saw stacy skating pool, knows what i'm talking about.the guy was really impressive.

gimme a break here...

i think you are a bit disoriented to say the least.

taking out hackett in a race sounds funny too.

he just mopped up most of the world elite in paris.

that's a different thing than just cruising and pumping around on the beachwalk.

you really need a reality check-desperately.
