Well you missed it. Well you really didn't because THE LORDS OF DOGTOWN opens June 3rd in a theater near you. With the help of some ingenious people we ended up getting our group of about 14 people in and then snuck in about 6 more. I even had a couple of tickets left over that we didn't need to use.
THE LORDS OF DOGTOWN, the movie is killer and worthy of taking your date to or the kids that can handle the PG rating. Don't know if the media was there (Washington Post, etc.) but if they were, WesE nailed them with popcorn, snowcaps, paper airplanes, fart noises, and then a few runs on his longboard down in front of the screen. The movie management even threatened to kick him out. WesE, you animal....
Get a bunch of people together to see the movie and then yell at the screen just like WesE and his followers did. Radical man!!! Wonder if the Washington Post will mention his antics?
Like any said, we got to get a DC longboard session going soon with a strong showing of skaters.

PS it was cool to see some familiar faces on the screen such as Jack Smith, etc.

its as if you crossed the dude from napolean dynomite with some high school kids listening to sum41 wearing homo arm wrist bands take away the comedy and add in 3 clones of keanu reeves point break style conversation

yea im 16 not 14 and i might of been wrong but i just said from what i knew i wanna see the movie i liked the doc. i dont think its gonna be as good but i still wanna see so thats probaly all im saying. and the movie skateboard iv seen i liked it and i also like skateboard madness so who cares if u like the movie u like it and thats all u cant do anything about it so this whole forum is getting annoying

I agree with Paix. Its' EASY to criticize. And the internet makes it even easier. No one has to submit his or her review of a movie to be approved. Many of these dweebs haven't seen the movie or have any idea whatsoever what went into the production of the movie. By the time this movie opens, I will have seen the movie at least three times, and was on four locations (Del Mar, Huntington Beach, Long Beach and the Dog Bowl) during its filming. And you know what? My opionion of this movie is understandably biased. How could it not be? Just having seen the documentary predisposes me to liking/not liking the movie. Having skated "back in the day" also shapes my viewpoint of this movie. Everyone has an opinion. Just consider the source.
What slays me are these morons who have nothing more than a keyboard, a peek at the trailer and this tired old belief that being counterculturally venomous is going to make them sound cool among their alleged peers. Their peers are other braindead zeroes with chips on their shoulders. Anyone with a life appreciates the hard work and effort that goes into a project of this magnitude, and withholds judgement until they have evidence to support their claims.
This notion that someone is out to make "a quick buck" is laughable. This movie has been YEARS in the making. My scenes were done over a year ago. Look at the credits that roll after the movie. Unless your also a conspiracy theorist who believes that the studio just makes up these people for no no reason, you can't deny how huge of an effort it is. This doen't even include the 600 extras at Long Beach alone, or any of the other locations.
Is Sony/Columbia/Tristar trying to make money on this film? You betcha! It serves no one to produce a flop. And no one sold his soul or exploited skateboarding to make this happen. I call that a win-win.
This movie doesn't solve the problems of the world, and that was never its intent. It entertains us, it tells a story. It is what it is - and I'm stoked about it.

Its easy to criticize movies these days, especially movies that on the surface appear to be trying to make a quick buck on skateboarding, a sport (regardless of how vintage you are, or how long you've been in whatever scene you subscribe to) we ALL know and love. I think the only person who can really pass any real judgement are the people involved in it, being a somewhat amatuer filmmaker, I can say that those directly involved are usually the harshest most accurate critics. However, sometimes its easy to pad your feelings of a project you're involved with, so that too is not always accurate. The hard line is most of us will have to wait to see it and even longer then that to see the repurcussions. Skateboarding is no stranger to the exploiters and the "posers" but its a sport that has survived so many droughts and traitors that I doubt one movie will be its saviour or downfall. Chaput is correct, its easy to be an armchair director, or producer, and say that a movie is going to be horrible (or have horrible effects) before you even see it. In any case, I'm looking forward to the movie, and these new toys from abec 11, and I can't wait to slap a set of bertz on my mini.

Yeah, if you gromos want a movie that's dead-accurate and authentic, you just have to rent "Skateboard" from 1977. Leif Garret outskated me all day long. That dude was awesome, and any of you that criticize this statement are obviously posers and have no skate in your soul. Never, ever question Tony Alva. Why do I have to point this out?

The script was written by Peralta. Alva, Muir, Peralta, Jack Smith, Chris Chaput, and others who were "there" (as part of the DT scene, or competed against them at the contests) were consultants. How much closer to the source do you want?

Arguably, they were the ones that had the most impact. And how much of everyone's story could you fit into 2 hours? Even the documentary primarily focused on those three...
My two cents: If you want to watch a documentary, watch "DT&ZB" again. This movie is meant to be summer entertainment, not the be-all, end-all definitive history of the mid 70s DT scene. Take it for what it is...

with this movie will come 1000's of cloned mtv punk rock wannabe's rushing to the mall to buy their skateboarding clothes from bananna republic
stop trying to make a battle if youre some real skateboarder go out and do your thing dont bother defending yourself against what hollywood puts up as what your image should be
screw anybody who thinks this film is good ..the same sad people who watched and praised movies like 'grind' 'you got served' the 'american pie' series 'dude wheres my car' and any other trend setting lamer high school movies

I know the answer on that one: the wheel pictured below is a Retro-brand "Bertz", produced by Chris Chaput using "Abec 11 urethane" and will indeed be sold. I know that Mile High Skates.com has ordered some up,among others, but that they aren't shipping yet.
They're 81a durometer, with a translucent core, and will be printed on the edge/face.

My guess is 20.5 million for the opening weekend.
Now that the movie is fueling a run on retro equipment, does anyone know if copies of the original fiberglass z-flex's will be massed produced? I saw one made for the movie on e-bay for way more than I have to spend and would love to replace my Jay Adams. I love the way this board rides and I stopped riding it after 25+ years due to cracks developing through the deck (I guess I weigh more than I did when I was 14). In the alternative, I would love to find someone who could refiberish mine so I can ride it again.

By the way, I've been invited to help open a sneak preview showing of the Lords Of Dogtown on May 17th, Tuesday night in San Diego. Some people from UCSD's Longboard Building 101 class will be in attendance. It's a really cool class and more than half are women!
I'll be hanging out after the movie, hoping that no one sneezed and missed my part. I'll see if I can get more details. Hope to see you there.

They are going to be ready in one week, barring any disasters at the factory. The molds are done. The artwork is done. We'll commit to the color and pour enough for everyone.
These work really well with older and/or narrower trucks like a MidTrack, Indy 101 or Invader. That setup is really fun on a single kick deck with little to no concave. They make for really "zippy" little cruisers. You can do old-school tricks and slalom on them too. I'll report back when I have them in my hot little hands.
