Andreas,
Thanks for the video link!. Looks like you guys had Tom right where you wanted him as you left the first hairpin! Give yourself plenty of time to heal before you go racing again!

Snakey is of for a year in New Zealand ...these days it´s ....4-6 foot and kocking that ratels that kids cage and we all know that surfing will hardly hurt that kid.
Us old farts dred the day he sets his foot on swedish tuth:)
There were a few new swedes that realy tried to kill that hill and some did realy well. (lap jävel):)
Fredrik rocked up for time trials and showed us wankers how to bomb a hill and to that tune we dans in sweden:)
And yes Spiken we love you.
My arm is geting better every day and my foot has go´n from black to blue and now yellowish blue so i guess thats good
And to think that i still came second in my heat.
My only hope after missing out on germany and the swiss race is that i can skate in time for the german national and that Simon White gets the South-African Hot Heels race on the calender.

Aluminum Speedboards at Maryhill
On 7/11/2005 David Rogers wrote in from United States  (66.14.nnn.nnn)

John and I were riding new 3 piece aluminum speedboards at Maryhill. Maryhill was the first race for these boards. We are very happy with the results...2nd and 5th...or 1st and 4th if you ignore Chappy ;) ha ha.

We have yet to explore all of the possibilities that the modular construction offers. Angled end plates and truck/board spacers allow for changes in steering geometry and ride height to fit nearly all truck/wheel combinations and rider preferences.

The initial run of 10 or so boards is being prepped for anodizing this week. We are going to try a few different finishing techniques on the first batch to see what works best. We are going with clear/silver and blue anodizing on the first batch.

SFKasJ and others....Email me or check back in a few weeks if you are interested in seeing one. We have a few demo boards for you to try if you make it up to GMR some Sunday.

Alu boards
On 7/4/2005 SFKasJ wrote in from United States  (68.7.nnn.nnn)

Dave,

I had to bail yesterday pretty quickly and I didn't get a chance to ask you to contact me when the alu boards get anodized. I would love to take a look at one. The way you decribed them they sound very nice and I'm thinking that I may need to throw some money your way to get my own.

What color are you having the anodizing done in?

Dave super cool to find out that you were the first speedboarder to get down the hill. John you have to spot picking flowers while racing it makes us other slowbaorders look bad ;)
Åre was realy good but ended early for me after being mowed done from behind by my so called team mate.
I ended up with a dislocated and frakuted arm and a fraktured foot.

be cool Andreas

Hats off to the Roger Bros

Here's an excerpt from a long post that I made earlier:

"I also want to make this point abundantly clear - THIS IS NOT A NEW IDEA OF MINE! This type of technology has been inspired by and borrowed from some of the pioneers of gravity racing solutions - namely Darren Lott, Dave and John Rogers, Manu Antuna, and Cliff Coleman. Their open minds and their commitment to "finding a better way" down the hill are unsurpassed in gravity sports. To them, it's not about attitude, it's all about what works. And more specifically, it's about what's SAFE at high speeds. I have complete respect for them as human beings as well as for their contributions to the sport. There is no way on God's Green Earth that I would be doing what I'm doing if they hadn't of paved the way. Many others deserve credit, especially the race promoters who allow us to come out and play..."

Thanks John and Dave, for pushing the envelope.

Rain last year
On 6/23/2005 Petter wrote in from Sweden  (212.209.nnn.nnn)

What you are refering to in the standup final is only classified as rain in SoCal:) What we had in the luge final, although probably thought of as a Rainstorm of the century in SoCal, is what I'm refering to as a light drizzle;)
In the standup final there whas only a slight increase in air-moisture;)

Andreas and the Swedes...
Things are going pretty good for us. Getting ready for Maryhill...looks to be the biggest gathering of speedboarders that North America has seen in a few years..thanks to Timeship!! So. Cal. weather has been great lately...still hitting GMR regularly.

We hope to make it back to Sweden someday...John and I have many fond memories of Sweden and all the cool people we met there. We wish you guys the best at the race this year. Looks like you will have a big turnout! Hope the weather treats you right.

Petter...didn't the rain start during the skateboard final last year? I still remember the feeling I had when halfway down the first straight I began to notice John's board leaving "tracks" on the freshly wet pavement...yikes!!

Tell the rest of the racers from last year that we are sorry we can't make it this time..have fun and good luck! We are rooting for the Swedes this year!!!

Sweden
On 6/22/2005 Petter wrote in from Sweden  (212.209.nnn.nnn)

I would say you should bring both shorts and some warmer clothes.
The weather in Åre in June is pretty similar to Kaunertal, one minute it's 25celsuis and sunny, 2 hours later it's 10degrees and raining.
Last year we where lucky and had a dry course except for a light drizzle for the luge final, we hope for the same again:)
There will be a couple of large tents by the finish to keep the equipment dry in case of rain.
Since it's a skiing resort most cabins and apartements have some kind of drying facility for clothes.

There's no tough hairpins on that one but you be able to see Clement Carné making a mistake on the last fast turn and how he deals with that...
(You'll see all the other best french riders too (panda, shreck (cedric burel) or djul))

re Technical Racing Techniques
On 6/17/2005 brad wrote in from United States  (216.233.nnn.nnn)

I would like to thank everyone for the response to my question about technical racing technique. I wonder if someone could explain a little more about the hands down, board grab, sliding stance. I have watched videos, esp. of Canadian and Brazilian downhilling, but only see small segments of the course. Do you ride down all the way, so that you can grab a rail quickly for sharp turns, and then easily lay down your slide glove to negotiate the tough turns, and do racers really skate u-turns? I saw how the Brazilians keep a knee down, but could not tell if this was done just for the turns.
