Hey, Great site. I wanted to mention our local shop since it supports longboarding. California Board Life (916) 984-0301 in Folsom CA has a huge selection of Longboards and equipment, and they often have "Pushes" from their shop with 50 - 75 riders involved. Check em out.

Another big thumbs up for the folks at Purple Skunk. I am getting back in to skating after a 30 year layoff. Everything has changed since '77 and after searching the net for several weeks I decided I needed some hands on advice. I emailed the Skunk and they were helpful and supportive fromt the beginning. I visited the shop yesterday and got access to all kinds of demo boards. No pressure just complete patience and understanding with my huge list of questions. Got a great deal on a great board.
Lots of skate shops can be intimidating for an older guy who has been out of the loop for so long but the people at Purple Skunk (Rodney and a guy in a cast whose name escapes me - sorry) were excellent.

I've been to the skunk three times, and I can only say that Lizzie and Rodney are some of the best-natured, most helpful people I've met in awhile. I live on the east coast, and even so, I try to give as much business as possible to the skunk because they absolutely deserve it. They're the best.

I just received a new longboard deck and various accessories from Purple Skunk. This was the third order I've placed with them over the last year or so. Great people - very helpful when I'm unsure just which item is right. They surprised me by shipping express for free, and they've always thrown in a pile of stickers, magazines, handout cards, and other fun stuff to look at. Recommended highly by this longboarder from Seattle.

I just wanted to inform everyone about the best skate shop in the country, Purple Skunk Boardshop of San Francisco, Ca. Being from the Midwest I’m somewhat limited on skate resources, so I was very pleased to find a trustworthy crew. Trust me, they really go that extra step to help a customer out. They have everything you need for longboard, old school, slalom, etc. The only thing better than ordering from them, would actually being fortunate enough to go to the store and getting to meet Lizzie and her crew.

I guess it is unaustralian to blow ones own trumpet, but I have been importing top end gear from all over into Oz for a couple of years now and have probably the best selection of longboards, speedboards, slalom boards as well as trucks, wheels, etc in Oz.
Currently we are the only source of GOG, Splitfire, Jim Z Speedparts, Bear, Pavel, Wefunk, and Radikal in Oz as well as stocking Landyachtz, Kebbek, Insect, Force, Tracker, Seismic, Abec11 (and Co), Manx, etc, etc, etc.
Generally we can sell you the gear out of stock for about the same price as the Americans and Europeans are paying at home. Give us a mail for a price.

I originally planned on writing a long post, but who likes to read long postings? Hence the word “POST” So here it is short and sweet.
Problem 1: Pouring Rain in The Bay Area = NO SKATING FOR ME
Possible Solution: Drive to So-Cal to visit buddy and go long boarding
Problem 2: Brand new deck w/ NO BEARINGS, WHEELS, or TRUCKS
Final Solution: I send money to Purple Skunk. Lizzie sends gear from Purple Skunk to my house in 1 business day. (Oh by the way, Purple Skunk spells the word shipping “F-R-E-E” during the holidays.)
Result: Ripping it up with friends in Sunshine, 350 miles away from the rain.
(BIG SMILE ON MY FACE!)

I had a devil of a time getting a friend [directed by google] to the shop's webpage, so, I'm posting up a more direct means of finding the best collection of old, cool, unique boards in the NorthEast. Stop in if you're up near Manchester,Vt, and say hi to Nick or Ross, and take awhile to ponder the various boards they've got on display (btw,my old board is the longest there, 205cm).
Oh, and they sell new stuff, too! ;-)
