One More Thing.........
On 5/6/2006 Same Guy as before wrote in from United States  (64.5.nnn.nnn)

.......If next Sunday May 14th has good weather and people want to just get together and put one or 2 different lanes up in Salem(or maybe WSU or Ridgefield), I might be into that -IF- I get enough done between now and then, if someone wants to put a timer on one lane or both lanes that would be fine. Honestly I'd rather just ride and have fun instead of race next Sunday since we'll have a "real" race just a week after that. Too much "real" racing sorta burns me out. I guess I'm just one of those slacker "soul slalomers" or something like that. Adios-Paul

"Big-n-Fast" Addendum
On 5/6/2006 Paul Howard wrote in from United States  (64.5.nnn.nnn)

Hey, I noticed that supposedly there will be a Seattle race in August, and another Vancouver/Ridgefield race in Sept so I re-scheduled the "Big-n-Fast" for October 1st or 15th.

If either August-Seattle or September-Vancouver/Ridgefield does'nt happen(or if it's already known that either won't happen, let me know), Then I'll schedule the "Big-n-Fast" in August or September.

Thanks-Paul

Rain CANCELLATION of the "Big-n-Fast"
On 5/6/2006 Paul Howard wrote in from United States  (64.5.nnn.nnn)

Hey, sorry to make a late entry on this but patients would'nt stop coming in for their danged X-Rays until now at 2:30PM.

I am OFFICIALLY CANCELLING THE "BIG-N-FAST" for this weekend. The National Weather Service has increased their prediction to 80% RAIN and showers after that so that seems pointless to make everyone(anyone) drive out of town to it.

Because the idea of a "Big-n-Fast" sounds like fun, I'm going to arbitrarily pick a date in Aug/Sept and change it on the Contest Calender and do it later in the season.

Let me know if the the date it ends up on does'nt work for some reason and I'll change it again. Thanks.-Paul

Re: Mukilteo - I agree Paul, it's a course that anyone should be able to get through without too much trouble.

Rain: If it's showers, I agree it's worth trying to race.

Sunday's "Big-n-Fast" Weather report
On 5/5/2006 Paul Howard wrote in from United States  (64.5.nnn.nnn)

Hey, According to the National Weather Service, there's a 60% chance of showers as oppossed to "rain". If it said RAIN I would call it off. "Showers" tends to be short lived and not all day, but with more than 50%, multiple showers becomes more likely. Plus, we're getting together in 2 more weeks up in Mukliteo as well.

I'm going to keep my eyes on the National Weather Service forcasts and make a decision tomorrow from what the NWS says about Salem. If it looks good for Salem I'll put it on, (so if it rains in Seattle, you might still want to think about coming down since there will likely be some different weather systems).

Stay tuned, Thanks-Paul

May 21st Mukilteo Park Slalom
On 5/4/2006 Dan Hughes wrote in from United States  (208.187.nnn.nnn)

I was asked to set the course for the park slalom. Since I've been studying up on that, I've come up with

a pretty good idea what I'm thinking, so I thought I'd share it.

The Muk has a lot to offer. We thought about doing a slalom around the outside, and the bowl.

And that was too long, and frankly,

there's already a regular flat slalom race down the parking lot that day, so no need to duplicate that.
We figured that just doing the race in the bowl would offer the best diversity possible.

This is the tentative course we've set up. It's full speed bowl riding. No rolling out or in over coping.

No stopping or starting needed. Just full on, full speed.

If you've not ridden Mukilteo before, this is a very natural and easy line through the bowl.

Basically the start is on the pyramid, one push, and down the bank. No jumping on the board starts.

Over the roll-in, and backside (regular footer) in the clam shell.
Then through the shallow, and winding off the bank into the deep,
and full speed out of the deep and up the other roll-in to the finish line.

We should have tape switches installed for accurate timing.

June 24th is VERY busy

June 24th is going to be a very busy day for skateboarding:

Park Slalom at West Linn
State Games of Oregon race at Salem.
Downhill at Maryhill.

Unfortunate for all of us that they are on the same day...

Salem "Big-n-Fast"
On 5/4/2006 Paul Howard wrote in from United States  (64.5.nnn.nnn)

Hey Pat, I plan on running dual lane head to head,

Qualifying will be one round of 2 runs(switching lanes), if it's simpler to just use the best single time, lets go with that, if adding or averaging is an automatic function you can do that if you want, otherwise lets stick with single best time for simplicity.

I'd like to use a ladder format so everyone gets to ride the whole race.

I'd like to do at least 3 head to head rounds(6 runs, switching lanes).

Thanks-Paul

Salem race this weekend: format?
On 5/3/2006 Pat Chewning wrote in from United States  (67.189.nnn.nnn)

Paul,

Can you tell us what is the racing format for this weekend?

That is: How many qual runs? How to seed (single best run, sum of 2, etc?)

How many Head-to-head runs? What kind of bracketing?

I am mostly interested because I would like to prepare the timing system spreadsheets for whatever your plans are. Easier to do now than on race day.

Nice looking pave. I found a nice slab up north here. Stryker and I played a little this eve and he said it was even smootha than suthern butta. Bout the same length not as steep. Any hoo, we'll have some fresh pave for a couple of weeks here in the Gr8 White North. I'm picking John and the ramps up around 3:00 on Sat afternoon. Should be on the road around 3:30. Meet at the Mc Donalds?

This perfectly deserted butter smooth hill in a viral suburban development area will be consumed by new home owners in just a few weeks, so made the best of it while it lasts!! Shot down to Puyallup Sunday for a tight n' fast course, then a big-offset sphincter-clenching GS-ish course. Will have to get Stryker's downhill luge board on film next time!!!

Hey, That was a Blast! Thanks Dave for putting it on and Pat for running the timing. Great course, that neg offset/gimme was subtle and diabolical.

That was fun seeing how much everyone keeps getting faster and faster. Jackman was UNSTOPABLE, Corey, Hughes, and Stryker were just F-A-S-T!

Great seeing all the old faces and new faces.

Great trophies by Skip

Silver Spoons- 4 of 'em, if you lost them, I have them email me with the name/email-click thingy.

Thanks for the pictures of my tributes to Larry Bertleman. Great Pictures all around of the West Linn session.

That was great seeing Pete skate slalom for the 2nd time and park for the 1st time since his knee injury a year ago.

I justed wanted to finally thank the guys that put together another fun race.
Dave, Pat, Dan? all the worker-bees behind the scenes, (and Scott with the shade) Thanx.
The timing seemed smooth and organized, the course interesting.
I really dig the fact that there is so much knowledge there for the asking. It's hard to take it all in.
These are all reasons to look forward to Paul's Big and Fast.

I'm jazzed you guys were stoked on the trophies. I guess it doesn't take much...

Cool trophies Skip, lucky winners. Your artwork is still up at Garf's and don't think it's coming down soon. I just thought of having an outlaw down the Copper side to Frisco during the Lookout Mt. weekend. So if you make it out for the Timeship event think about your marathon set up. Cool to see you've gotta good scene out there. If you were still out here we would be driving to East Vail now, only to look at the snow. Down Valley's coming up. See you soon for Maryhill. Take care bro and maybe I can win one of those trophies one day.
