Yeah, the road trip was great! I described it to my co-workers as "Part Animal House, part National Lampoon's Vacation and part Grind, The Movie.
Check out the proposed park slalom course for Aumsville in the CSA forum thread! We better start practicing park slalom at Ripon and Folsom.

Rich, hc, Norski---- ya'll were great traveling companions. It was fun hitting the skate parks on the way up & back.
Thanks for the use of your vehicle Rich---- it really WAS like riding in a Lexus.
Also thanks for not getting too upset when I got the ol' mini van up to 98 mph! I did get us to Salem an hour ahead of schedule, though!
Road trips rule!

See my post/advice on the CSA forum -
Thus far I'm still calling it a "GO", but I would advise checking SEVERAL internet weather sources early Saterday Morning before you hit the road.

Showers (maybe) at 6:00 am. Rest of the day looks shower free!
It's going to be chilly, though. We can all guage how cold it's going to be by watching Norski. If he shows up in long pants, we'll be in for a chilly day!

Salem Weather

Hey, Every year we go through this weather thing.
Basically it amounts to this:
If the National Weather Service(www.weather.gov) reports Greater than 50% chance of "RAIN", then we lean towards cancelling or rescheduling. Less than 50% usually we forge ahead and do it.
If the NWS reports "SHOWERS", or "A SHOWER" we go ahead as long as long as it doesn't spell out "showers throughout the day" and often we ride.
Keep tuned and think dry thoughts. -P

As of now, the Accuweather Forecast for Salem looks good for the weekend.
I have found Accuweather provides the best online forecasts for Northern California -- not sure if it's as good for Salem.

Salem BBQ, I mean Soap Box Derby Hill and QUESTIONAIRE
|

If you look on the race page, all the directions are there, it's really pretty simple:
I-5 northward to Hwy 22(which goes east and west), Take Hwy 22 WEST, it will immediately become Mission Blvd(street? ave? whatever) and it will curve around a little, don't worry, just stay on Mission going westward for about 2.5-ish miles from where you left I-5. Look to your left(south) for Bush Park, it's really big. Look for a big field and track stadium, the Soap Box Derby hill will be next to it.
The hill is moderately fast, nothing like the DHB's monster hill, nothing like Morro Bay's Turrey Road. It's good smooth pavement, I've gone faster but I've gone slower. It is super fast if the cones are tight enough like any hill but the courses will be geared toward beginners/newbies so if one does'nt know how to pump and hit turns hard they will be OK, if one does know what one is doing, one should be able to blaze hard through them and make it really challenging, that's how I usually set up each course.
I'm guessing the motel you are staying at will likely be a bit north of Hwy 22 further north off of I-5 at the next exit which if my memory serves me correctly could be Market Street(intersecting I-5) and nearby will be Hawthorne(which will be parallel to I-5 on the west side of I-5) but I'm just guessing on that. I don't live in Salem so I'm not much more help than that.
QUESTIONAIRE: By the way, there seems to be some confusion on the part of some CSA members. I need some imput from you NorCal'ers. I wrote in my race signup page that my event is a newbie clinic/slalom session/BBQ with 2 different lanes and NOT a race, at least not for the first few hours until we get newbies dialed-in and if and only if enough people then want to race , and racing will be done on one lane only. Otherwise with the number of people who show up, it will be a nightmare. I believe I have a good number of signups(49 at present) because it's NOT a "race" and I'm under the impression a lot of people are counting on RIDING more than "racing" (and waiting around for their turn and conecounts, timer/tapeswitch problems, etc.) and wanting to come to this because they are expecting it to be what I just described. You can respond here, the CSA forum, or email me directly with the email nameclick thingy. Let me know what your understanding of what I wrote on my race page means.
Thanks - Paul

Hey, My Wife and I will be gone March 24th-28th in case anyone needs to get ahold of me, I'll answer any questions when I get back if they come up.
If all/any of you do come up, you would be well advised to get up early or leave Friday so you can ride the skateparks on I-5 in Ashland, Medford, or Grants Pass(there's probably more than that which I don't know about). If you ask around in each town, they're not that hard to find.
You can reach me with the email/name-click thingy or call (541)754-7826 and leave a message if we're not home. Oh yeah, start doing your "No-Rain" dances specifically for April 1st just to be on the safe side. Hope to see you there - Paul
