Lake Cunningham Skatepark Groundbreaking - Saturday, March 3, 2007 - 10:00 a .m. - 1:00 p.m.
Groundbreaking event will be at Parking Lot A, off of White Road.
Design by Wormhoudt, construction by Bothman of Menlo Park "Burgess Skatepark" fame. The silver lining to the Bothman cloud is that they are to subcontract the finish work to none other than California Skateparks. Famous for Granite, Santa Monica, Fontana and many others.

San Jose park

from Associated Press
San Jose skate park will be largest in NorCal
A $4.76 million skate park in San Jose will be the largest in Northern California, offering skateboarders 40,000 square feet of space and a 22-foot-diameter pipe with an incline so steep that dare devils will be able to flip upside down in it.
Recreation officials and local skaters celebrated the Lake Cunningham Regional Skate Park - scheduled to open in late spring 2008 - at a groundbreaking ceremony Saturday. Next to a Raging Waters theme park, the park's neighborhood is increasingly popular with young families.
Some longtime skaters from the Bay Area Skate Park Coalition said the course could become a proving ground for riders hoping to go professional. And an influx of skaters and their relatives could be a boon to local restaurants and shops.
"It certainly meets the needs of all levels, up to and including professional skaters," said coalition co-founder Rick DeNardo, 45, of East Palo Alto. "You're going to get a lot of people from around the Bay Area who will want to skate this on a regular basis. It will be a destination."
Brian Hartsell, manager of San Jose Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services, said the park will likely charge an entrance fee of $2 and may charge for parking during busy months.
Politicians are racing to provide well lighted, landscaped parks with skater-friendly amenities as an alternative to public plazas, playgrounds, boulevards and other places where skateboarders may clash with pedestrians and cars.
San Jose is planning to have 11 skate parks throughout the city. The Silicon Valley suburbs of Sunnyvale, Palo Alto and Menlo Park have them, as do Gilroy and Santa Cruz.

Just read this from Maria Carrasco in the Slalom forum... "sending warm thoughts to Drew Lunsford who took a spill during practice. Hope the x-ray reports are good."
Anyone with news on Drew? Prayers for him.
By the way, read this post on the Bull Dog Skates Forum for a cautionary tale about skating in an open street with cars. This 6-year-old boy almost died -- the helmet probably saved his brain from damage... you can see the father's paypal address if you want to donate $to help the family... I will be talking with folks at Hood River on Sunday about some fundraising donations of skate items to sell / auction...
CAUTION - Post includes pictures of child with injuries in hospital - do not scroll down too far if the images may be too hard on you to observe

Hope this would make us easier to find.
Thanks Adam!!!

Will be going on vacation in Oregon for 5 days including the Hood River area. With my wife Nanthwan and Shasta the Super Dog. Staying Friday 7/6 and Saturday 7/7 at Best Western Hood River Inn. Not competing in the race, but will be part of the volunteer crew for Sunday's tight slalom.
Will plan on competing next year with some decent slalom practice time. This year, I'm focused much more on vert in preparation for the 45 at 45 Tour. Speaking of that, many thanks to my latest sponsor: Purple Skunk skate shop. Lizzie will be providing me with wheels, bearings and T-shirts. http://45at45.com
