PICNIC---
Hey, it looks like several of us want to skate around after the X-Games on Sunday. So, please come with longboard in hand, bring a friend, enjoy the luge event, then let's go skate.
IF ANYBODY HAS CONES, BRING THEM, PLEASE. We can find a spot to set up a slalom course. If you haven't tried this, then you definitely want to.
See you all there...

The X Games event schedule is available online at http://espn.go.com/xgames/summerx99/schedule/index.html. There are no downhill skateboard events, but if you're into luge or vert there are plenty of events to see. And Randal is organizing a street ride in the Sunset district on Sunday afternoon!

Hi Guys
James-the guy who beat Biker is Travis Tripp. He's the best on the East Coast. I was the starter at the Madison Indiana luge race and he won that one too. He's very good, but I would have put money on Biker winning the thing. Didn't know that Biker speedboards also.

I saw the final of speedboarding at Santa Rosa. Biker, in his plasic suit, won the race. It was very close at the end. That event was soooo cool. I hope everyone gets on the mailing list for a longboarding contest to be held in mid/late August. It'll be in the San Jose area. Check it out:

Bad news Dan, those whimps at ESPN dropped speedboarding from the line up, don't know why for sure, I hear it's very political in nature, next televised speedboarding will be NBC's Gravity Games which will be held in September on the east coast. Watch for an episode of "Speed Demons" on TLC for a nice intro to gravity sports including speedboarding. They re-run these regularly. I was seriously considering flying out to watch speedboarding in San Francisco at the x-games till they dropped it! Noiw I won't watch any of it, but I might go to Rhode Island in September for NBC's gig! Too bad ESPN, you blew it!

I was just checking out ESPN's X-Games web site. I wanted to find out on what days the speedboarding would be taking place. But, there was no mention of speedboarding as an event at all! Does anyone know if there is still going to be a speedboarding event and if so, what days will it be conducted on?

Ok...WHITE TRASH PICNIC is my codeword for a fun get-together as some of you out there know.
I've been trying to get something together since last November for this Spring (which is here)... So here goes...
I was talking to Randal yesterday and he gave me a great idea. Instead of trying to go through the city of Santa Cruz or any other city for that matter, to put on a contest... maybe we could just get together at Golden Gate Park during the week of the X-Games and have a FUN contest / ride. Personally, I would like to put out some cones and have a fun slalom ride, then do some STYLE, then just dominate the park like the bladers do every weekend anyway.
This would expose a lot of people to a wide range of longboarding styles. It might even bring about a more serious, yet fun contest for later in the summer, ie...with timing setup for slalom, some judging for a 'slope-style' event and a 'SLOW' MAN-on-MAN downhill event ( no leathers, just pads and helmet---ten pushes, you know,,,FUN!!)
Get your dad and your girlfriends out there. It's ROOTS SKATING.
Contact me with interest or if you'd like to help.
It's gonna happen anyway.

Gravity Games - Santa Rosa Qualifier

There's a major event being held in Santa Rosa this coming weekend (Sat.29,Sun.30) for Downhill Skateboard (Speedboard) and Streetluge. The racing is a qualifying round to get into the NBC Gravity Games later this summer. All the top Pro's will be there and the hill is supposed to be really fast. Come check it out... it should be epic. It's on the northeast side of town - take 101, exit Bicentennial east to Fountaingrove Parkway.

This is just to restate what what said in the announcement below this one. Anyone interested in competing in our downhill/freestyle event should let me (or whoever is putting this thing on) know and we'll give you all the information that we have. So far, we need to work out more details but we want to know who's interested in having fun with us. this is a low competitive/high fun event so all levels of skaters are welcome. however, keep in mind that pads will be required since we'll be skating down a hill. let us know ASAP! Later all.
