WLAC or Revere
On 4/20/2001 Mike G. wrote in from (208.50.nnn.nnn)

Barlye is right. Pali high school could work. It is much smoother than WLAC. Not much of a slope though. The staff parking lot featured in those old 60's videos is way torn up asphalt, but the stadium parking lot could work. I have set up cones there before. I'm down with Revere as well, I go there every Saturday anyway, I just don't it to turn into a bust. I'm sure last week was an intimidating shock to all the Brentwood soccer kooks.

W.L.A. OR REVERE OR PALI HIGH PARKING LOT
On 4/20/2001 BARLEYE wrote in from (209.220.nnn.nnn)

PACIFIC PALISADES HIGH SCHOOL HAS A GREAT PARKING LOT FOR THIS SORT OF THING. DOWNHILL SLOPE. KINDA LATE NOTICE BUT MAYBE SOMEONE SHOULD CHECK IT OUT AND TAKE SOME PHOTOS OF IT FOR OTHERS TO SEE.

WHAT ABOUT REVERE AGAIN?

WLAC

How about some of those parking lots at WLAC? Are they smooth enough? I seem to remember that a couple of them had a pretty good slope.

West LA College update
On 4/19/2001 Scott Peer wrote in from (64.12.nnn.nnn)

The back road at West LA College is open to traffic every day except Sunday, so this Saturday probably isn't a good time to try for slalom practice there, unless you get lucky and it's quiet, or you don't mind working around a few parked cars an occasional cars driving by. I'd recommend going after 10 AM on Sunday, the campus cop heads out on that road about that time to open the other gates, and is sometimes grumpy in the morning about driving the wrong way on the one-way street.

Westwood Ski and Sports Club's insurer backed out of covering us for any of our skateboard or inline skate activities, which stopped our permits in their tracks. I'm shopping for new coverage, and have the first quotes coming in. They're looking somewhat more expensive, but still workable. I hope that we'll be ready to start the race season in June, with something every month or so after that.
Keep your eyes open for more postings here, and if you're not already on my email list and would like to be, please send me an email, and include your areas of interest (such as skateboard slalom, downhill, luge, etc).

For all the IGSA updates (WLAC, Barrett Junction, etc) check out the new website: http://www.gravity-sports.com/

next slalom practice
On 4/18/2001 attila wrote in from (205.188.nnn.nnn)

Thanks for the tip- that's what we need to setup next time before we go to morro bay - a 100-cone 5 ft (center to center) stinger and (1) combo course similar to Morro BAy and also an offset tight course. With all the cones that everybody has this shouldn't be too hard to arrange. But we do need to find a new road or lot that is suitable for the different types of slalom, relatively small incline and smooth surface. Make the 100 cones at speed and you'll be prepared what to excpect when the Euros arrive ( you'll be also kissing your ab slides good bye) and also fare better when any of us go to Europe. since skateboarding has been announced to the world over again! "OHHH UHHH, but I AM NOT THE TIGHT SLALOM MAN- I LIKE THE WIDER OFFSETS..." THAT'S TO TIGHT!!! Did any of you watch Shaq's freethrows LAST NIGHT!? 13 of 13- perfect- who ever said that he'll never learn how to learn how to free throw- PRACTICE!

Berkeley session after the Moro Bay contest
On 4/16/2001 Cliff Coleman wrote in from (209.162.nnn.nnn)

I'll be staying with the Gravity guys during the Moro Bay event. Once the party is over at Moro Bay we will be driving the next day to Berkeley to ride the epic hills there. Chris, this would be a great time to come on up. You could bring the bus and drive up with us. Anybody who can afford to take the time off and pay for a hotel/motel room in Berkeley is welcome.

Later,

Cliff Coleman

WLAC 4/21
On 4/16/2001 roger wrote in from (198.206.nnn.nnn)

This Saturday sounds good. On the back road next to the electrical towers, not where the races are held. The back road is closed every Saturday and Sunday and does not need a permit. Rougher road, so bring Power Paws and leave the Stadas at home.

Revere was very cool, thanks to all, thanks for the hot dogs, cokes, good vibes, board testing, good riding, and on and on.

Downtown San Diego, night ride.
On 4/16/2001 cheshirepus wrote in from (160.227.nnn.nnn)

Damn, it really sounds like I missed out on a lot this weekend...
I'd like to organize a night ride down the streets of San Diego, perhaps even the Concourse, this Wednesday or Thursday night if there's anybody who'd like to join me.

Let me know, and we can hit it up.
