July 4th Boston race
On 6/30/2001 JohnGilmour wrote in from (63.118.nnn.nnn)

There will be slalom on both the 2nd and hte 3rd for those interested contact me on my cell phone 617 650-7669. Most likely some night slalom in the Boston Common on teh 2nd and some Arnold Arboretum slalom on the 3rd. Slalom on teh 4th starts at 10 am weather permiting the course ends under the Massachusetts avenue bridge (that connects Cambridge and Boston). Use mapquest.com to find the course. Plug in 485 Beacon Street Boston MA 02115 for the destination.

Tomorrow July 1st is my birthday so I won't be super available, but I'll respond to any requests by phone during the day. So far I have spied a Pinata in the form of a skateboard. I wanted Doug Hitch's timing system- darn!

If you come earlier you'll always have more fun than if you came later. I expect some people to start showing up on the 2nd. Terence is only 40 minutes away by car (super easy directions) and he has a nice slalom spot as well.

So far PSR, CMC, Terence, Shaggy, Claude, Tway, myself, are coming- who else? There should be tons of boards for people to try.

oh yeah, the show is tomorrow in berkeley at one in the afternoon, i forgot (partied too hard last night?). so, no sunday skate in sf for me. i hope they close down some of the roads in the campus so i can skate there before the show. but some night we'll get something together, everyone interested e-mail everyone and anyone you can think of who would be up for a nightskate. let's get something organized for this week, i'm open anytime to skate, so all i need to know is when. everyone post or e-mail when they're available so we can get this going.

Hey John,
Is the Elliot Lounge still there? When I went to music school at Berklee in Boston, the Elliot had the best Bloody Mary in the world. Around the corner was a cheesy AnaheimCAesq, tiki bar named Aku Aku. Is it still there? If so, Scorpion Bowl!!

4th of July Slalom in Boston Places to stay
On 6/27/2001 john Gilmour wrote in from (63.118.nnn.nnn)

Here is a list of places to stay. I've seen them and they are alright. I'll list skate times to the course.

The dirt cheap- $25-$27 a night- ask for private rooms- they have them- but they are $87 a night.
http://www.hiayh.org/hostels/massach/boston1.htm about a 1minute 30 second skate.

http://www.hiayh.org/hostels/massach/boston2.htm even close has 20 private rooms. comparable rates. a 20 second skate to the course.

I never stayed at the hostels but have rescued cute swedish hostelers in the past when they were full and had them clean my apartment.

463 beacon Street between Mass ave and Hereford St.
Still cheap but much nicer- check out the website!-though might not have the scandinavian and Argentinian hotties that would stay at the hostels---though it might have some better financed ones here. Much nicer looking rooms about a 20 second skate from the site. http://www.463beacon.com/ $79-129 per night- this is where I would stay.

Buckminister hotel 236-7050 in Kenmore Square, about 5 minute skate. Not as nice but next to Fenway Park. $119-$129

The Longwood Inn , Longwood Ave. Brookline. About a 15-20 minute skate. Room #1 is the nicest- in fact much nicer than the rest. Basically like a B & B. Some rooms have shared baths. No TVs in most of the rooms.617 566-8615 free local calls $99

The Elliot Hotel. Best luxury hotel at non luxury price. Has 5 star CLIO restaurant downstairs. About 45 second skate. 370 commonwealth Ave. corner or Mass Ave. Concierge , mini bars etc. Nicely furnished very clean. 617 267-1607 800 443-5468 elliothotel.com $215-$255

The Colonnade hotel. colonnadehotel.com about a 5 minute skate- but it has its own roof top pool with full bar and restaurant music open until 6pm- and of course you can bring guests to the pool- don't forget your slalom buds.. $285

The Ritz Carlton hotel. Special rates for AMEX holders. $245 and up- ask for the club deal which includes 6 meals per day. 10-15 minute skate- but if you are staying at the Ritz you would take a cab.

Budget rents jaguars.

July 4th Boston Slalom Practice Storrow drive
On 6/27/2001 john Gilmour wrote in from (63.118.nnn.nnn)

I'll start setting the course at 10 am on storrow drive- it finishes under the Mass ave bride. There are 6 lanes- 2 outbound and 4 inbound we will be in the middle set of lanes.

This is not a competition- more of a cooperative learning clinic. We may have a timing system. There will be tons of spectators.

I'll try to have a huge batch of virgin pina coladas on hand for everyone as well.

My number is 617 650-7669 it's a cell numkber so please try to call between 8pm and 10pm eastern standard time- And of course all day on the 4th- we will most likely slalom in the Arnold Arboretum on the 3rd, and possibly in the Boston commons at night if it is too hot on the 3rd during the day.

I'll change the outgoing message to reflect where we are and directions. You will not need a car if you stay anywhere within the Back Bay or Brookline.

This will be the only day you can ride the hill as cars go day and night on this hill every day except the 4th.
