Congradulations to all the competitors at the NBC Gravity Games. The Downhill Skateboarding events were especially incredible. This is TV that you really don't want to miss!

I've finished the video of the NCDSA slalom session at Scott Creek on 8/14. It's a bit big, 9.4 MB, so if you're on a slow connection then download it overnight or something. Download the video

I think they are being held this weekend. Does anyone know when the downhill segment will be televised? I think they are spreading out the tv over 4-6 weeks but I don't know.

turner,
Our slalom "tune-up" course was quite informal-- slight downgrade, 20 foot or so lead in, starting from *dead stop* (honor system!). The course was roughly straight (there are pics coming soon in the Pics Preview section, right webmaster_t?). No way to compare our oranges to your apples, sorry!

All of the talk of races and cone weaving is great! I had to go out and purchase 20 cones at big 5. I think I spenbt about 30$. Anyhow, I have to agree with the "4 feet is too close together" idea. I would have to return with a slalom board to see if it is possible. Well, I settled for six feet even distance between 20 cones. The results left me confused. Have you been taking off time for knocked cones? Was the course on a hill where you had to decelerate? Mine was almost flat (slight decline) and I was timed from the first cone to the last. My best times with no cones moved 5.68 secs 5.81 secs 5.9 secs how do you like them apples?

Mt. Tam

When Steve posted the race on Mt. Tam, he stated it would take place on August 29th. The Mt Tam rides are usually held on the full moon or on the Friday or Saturday closest to the full moon. Also when others posted on the events page requesting information on any such event or race This so called Steve refrained from giving up any information. It was at about this time that I became sceptical as to whether a race would take place at all. I myself decided to take in five runs down the "Centennial" road run in Berkeley the day before the proposed event instead of going to Mt. Tam. Randle and others tried to contact me for info but I was spending time with my family. Sorry to have missed it but it just didn't seem like it would be a reality.
Steve, a note about meaning what you say. If you offer to have cash for a race then at least show up and also give better information regarding any such race.

Westwood Sports Club has several events coming this fall in LA. Some are free practices on closed roads. Also, we have 4 dates in October and November at West LA College in Culver City, where we have a permit to hold slalom and giant slalom races.
I'll post more details as we get closer, but meanwhile have a look at: http://members.aol.com/wwskiclub/inline.htm
If you'd like to be on my email list for the latest news, just send me a note.

Trust me Matt, We have more then our fair share of angery drivers in the bay area. If they're not Flippin' you the bird as they speed down residential streets, they're nosey moralists who call the cops whenever they feel slightly inconveniced. How nice. If they hit you they wouldn't even notice half the time. Watching the road isn't as important as their cellphone conversation or their Starbucks. Man I'm bitter, it's time to move.

Yes, that's from the 8/14 meet. I edited out the cars, but keep in mind that we got shut down when some driver called the cops on us. It is a nice, wide, fairly quiet, new road, so yes, we're lucky to have a place like that.

After watching that I realized I need to move there. That road is like 3 times as wide as the spots I usually skate. It must be nice. No angry drivers, you don't have to watch out for opening car doors. You don't wear a hole in your shoe every week from trying to stop every 20 feet because of traffic or stop signs.
