I want to set up a cool event here in Salt Lake City. What makes a good course for a downhill and who do you usually have to talk to to get the roads closed etc? Also, ive never ran slalom; how many cones, how far apart, offset or not, and how steep should the hill be, etc? Thanks for the tips, I'm jealous of the skate community you have going on in CA, but we're working on it. (We definitely have our share of worthy hills!)

I may have missed the posts - are there still plans for a San Diego or SJC slalom next Sunday 7/29 ? We're going to be in the area (Dylan's headed to surf camp) - if so, please let me know. Thanks.

Another great day in the park. Don has a semi-permanently marked course up with some killer offsets, but it wasn't slowing down Gary Cross or Gary Holl, the two fast men as I was leaving (early, unfortunately). Supaflexes (5!) and Comets (more) were everywhere. Good to see a couple of new faces out there! I think we'll soon be at 20 riders every weekend. I'd like to see a Cyber Slalom course setup down on JFK so we can get some publicity. Don, let's setup a Cyber Slalom next weekend in preparation for GGP 2001.

I just flew back from Wyoming so I will in fact be there tomorrow to race. I have to wait for Gary to drive down from Tahoe. We should be there early but who knows for sure.

If I am ble to pull off, attending the San Fran GG Slalom get together. Could anyone take on a couple of Canadians for a few days. This will be tough to pull off but I managed to make Boston. Will continue the Airfare Search.
Have a great time if I can't.

Slalom: Bill, I'll try my best to be at the slalomhill at 11am.
downhill: Dave, 5pm sounds good. the only thing is I don't know if I'll have a ride out there, so what is the best way to use the Muni from GGPark?
see you all Sunday,

The last couple of weeks we have been starting at 11am. Is anyone going to show up early this week. I know that some of the stragglers continue to show up until 3pm. Who will be there to help me set up a good course at 11?

first off, i had a great time last night at southgate. clayton, next time i'll get you! this sunday at 5 pm there will be a speedboarding session at mclaren park. with no wind speeds of 40+mph can be easly reached. mclaren park has very minimal traffic and only 1 three way intercetion(stop signs in our favor). Directions: mclaren park is in the very southern part of the city. to get there get on bayshore blv. going towards candle stick park. Take a right onto Bacon street and follow that street uphill for 10 minutes. then make a left on cambridge street(all the streets are names of preppy colleges) you should see a sign that says John Mclaren park. once you get to the end of cambridge, thats the hill we will be running, make a left and head up the hill. if anybody has any questions on how to get there, shoot me a email peace david

To all race organizers and potential organizers: As some of you already know, Westwood Ski and Sports Club has provided the insurance coverage for the races at West LA College for the past several years. Our carrier had an anxiety attack and decided not to cover us any more. I've been trying to get another carrier at a price that would allow us to continue to have this kind of small race at affordable prices. I've come up with one option that's in the ballpark of $3700 for a year's coverage for all events, with a pretty high limit on the number of events. The problem is that to make this affordable, we would need to divide this out over more races than anyone would want at West LA College, and even bringing in other IGSA events may leave us short.
If any of you are interested in joining into an insurance pool with us, or have another suggestion for a way to get insurance for an event with around 20-30 racers for $200 or under, please send me an email. I certainly think it's good to hold outlaw races and uninsured races while we're regrouping. But I would caution you that uninsured racing is not new, and the lawsuits against the organizers is part of why some organizers from years back are not active today.

D.C. Area... Summer Night Slalom Sessions

Hey! D.C. area slalomers... rookies, enthusiasts and veterans, we're gonna have twice the fun this weekend with sessions on both Friday and Saturday nights. We'll start at 9:00 pm on Friday and 8:00 pm on Saturday. As usual, we'll be in the Park and RIDE commuter lot in Gaithersburg, MD, which is at the intersection of Quince Orchard Road (Md. Rt. 124) and the ramp from southbound I-270. Approaching from the south, on northbound I-270, the directions are also very simple. Take Exit 10 - Clopper Rd. Once you've completed the exit ramp, you want to turn right at the second traffic light, which is Quince Orchard Rd. From there, again take a right at the second traffic into the parking lot. So it's Exit 10, Right at the 2nd light, Right at the 2nd light. See y'all there.
